However mine don’t have that top bolt? What’s it for?
I didn't realize that it was a little different from mine. It can be removed so a breather can be installed.

Oh cool, cool, what size orings did the dipsticks take?

Just a few suggestions.
Great idea... I bought the same cans but ended up not using them because the dipstick wasn't sealed... (bigger problem for me since my cans get pressurized)

Unhappy

Then on a sad note, I went through a really tough and depressing time. Had some really bad things happen... so I didn’t order or work on or do anything to the Z for nearly 6 months... not even wash the poor girl. See photo below. THEN to top it all off, a month after that, now in November 2018, a security guard hit my rear bumper and messed it up in my work parking lot, and long story short I basically got screwed and so it’s still not fixed to this day. Though I’m really just waiting on painting and putting on the amuse rear bumper I suppose.

Pic of the rear bumper before and after I did what I could to fix it. I’ve dabbed it with some touch up paint since then so it looks a little better but that’s really a relative term at this point... ending on a good note though, my catch can seems to be working!

Early last month I wetsanded and cleaned up my headlights, then apppied a good sealant to them... they weren’t horrible, but they were getting unattractive. My friend saw and wanted me to do his 350z headlights. He paid me with a roll of EDI gold heat wrap tape. I don’t have a before and after if mine, here’s a before and after of his headlights though.

February 16th: So, I have a GThaus full cat back with motordyne ART test pipes and some other breather mods, so needless to say my exhaust is a little loud... plus I’ve upgradef my sound system, so I decided to do a diy dynamat project. I did the trunk, the hatch, the doors, and the front wheel wells.

I didn’t want to spend the money for the actual dynamat because my dad used some stuff on his truck he got from Home Depot, and that thing was literally air tight, and dead silent. He had to make air holes so that the door would close. Mind you he used like 50 lbs of the stuff and did EVERYTHING. But it worked really well for him. And I figured the quality difference would not be worth triple the price.

I got a quote from a local sound shop, and they wanted $900 to put 3 sheets in the trunk, and 1.5 sheets in each door. I did a hell of a lot more for a hell of a lot less. And I’m SO glad I did.

“Dynamat” review:
It definitely made a HUGE difference in the feel and sound of the car. The car feels... kind of heavier, but not in a bad way. And it’s not the 20ish lbs of dynamat I added... it just has... a more quality feel to the car. The sound system sounds a good deal louder, and much more clean and crisp as well. It also took out a little bit of the rasp the exhaust gained after the test pipes, without so much metal vibrating. This is definitely worth it. It makes me want to do even more of the car! In fact, I pulled the center console and added some under there too! And that made a difference too. (Keep in mind I have a single mass flywheel with poly trans and engine mounts) I’m super pleased with this mod and my girlfriend is too, she’s amazed at how much of a difference it made, and we can actually have a normal conversation at 85 mph now without raising our voices lol

And the whole thing only cost me about $60!
I’ll update this more later with brands and actual cost.

So, a long time ago I had an RSX that was almost a complete type R clone. (Had the wheels, the body pieces, the paint, the motor and trans, and half the interior) and in it, I had a 10w7 with a series 1 500/1 amp. I was at a stop light in San Antonio in a 35 mph zone, and a guy ran into the back of me at 70 mph, didn’t even hit the brakes. It cracked the dust cap and cone of that sub, and it has sat in my house for years. I finally decided to fix it. I bought a new dust cap and foam surround, but couldn’t get a new cone, so I was forced to fix the one I had. I used a special glue to melt and seal the plastic together, then actually put just a bit of flex seal on the back, let it dry for two days, and bam. It works good as new! It needs a little bit of excess glue cleaned up but it works!

Beginning of March I started to address the heat issues. Z’s run hot as it is, plus I live in south TX, so that doesn’t help. I began to wrap my intake tubes in EDI gold tape. My friend has his wrapped in his LS swapped s13 drift car, and saw intake temps drop usually around 14 to 19 degrees. Since last time I talked with my tuner Seb@specialty Z the car was pulling timing and sensing a little knock off and on and we couldn’t figure out why. So I added an oil catch can, to make sure no oil was getting into the fuel and lowering the octane, and now I’m heat wrapping the intakes, and planning in getting an oil cooler (My 2011 doesn’t have one.)

So we’ll see if we can’t turn up the power, add flat footed shifting, launch control, and turn the traction control down a bit soon.

Also, the whole time I’m doing this, my brat of a GF is sending pictures of her drinking MY lemonade!

Talking

Father came into town for my Bday (March 22nd) and he’s an awesome mechanic. Insane. He owns “Sully’s Speed Shop” in Creede Colorado. Anyway he has a crazy fancy code reader and diagnostics tablet and he pulled every code my car has, and has had. Found at one point it had a misfire on cyl 2.
Anyway we did all the matainence in the car, and addressed everything the car had, even the small things. Ordered clips to replace every missing clip and bolt on the car, checked the exhaust for leaks and everything. Reinstalled the now heat wrapped intakes, changed the oil, emptied the catch can, washed and detailed her inside and out, including under the hood. Found a better way to stabilize the Gen 3 intakes as well.

Man does she run smooth now! And my tpms sensors work again! Just having some traction problems...

Soooooooo I put on SPC front and rear camber arms, SPC toe bolts, and installed KWv3 coilovers!

Took it to the alignment shop, and I’m running 0 degrees in the front, and just under -1.5 degrees in the rear. I’m about to clay bar, paint correct and attempt to ceramic my car soon, so I’ll post pics of the stance after that.

KWv3 Coilover review:
I love the way my car feels now. I’ve forgotten how much I loved KWs. (I had them on my G37s) car feels more solid, more connected with the road, more predictable and precise. And I definitely have more traction. It has enough adjustability to get my car the way I want, but not so much I’m confused and don’t know what I’m doing. And it gave my car the perfect drop. Just less than 2 finger width gap on all 4 corners. I love love Love it!

Thanks! It sure was. I only get to see him like once or twice a year. We did a lot to his camaro while it was here too, he has a 2010 charcoal gray 2SS with a whipple charger on it. Not too shabby lol

Got another package in and put on today! Picked up a Password JDM cooling plate, it looks really nice! I wouldn’t pay retail for it as fitment wasn’t as good as I would expect. If I had paid retail I would’ve returned it. Enlarge a few holes and it fits fine and you can’t notice after being installed, but you shouldn’t have to do that. And it doesn’t cover a whole lot more than the stock plastic piece. So I don’t know that it’s going to cool all that more effectively... I wasn’t supposed to leave the stock piece in right? Cause I took it out, but I think I saved 1/4 lb!
