[BP single kit] COMP turbo fails after 882 miles.

We've all joked about the longevity of the air-cooled COMP turbo and how long COMP's supergrease would last, but now we have hard numbers to back it up! Those numbers are...

45 days.
882 miles.

The hot-side impeller makes contact with the housing. There is lateral wiggle on hot- and cold-side impellers. The impellers spin freely when hand-spun, with no resistance. When the car was running, a horrible metal-on-metal sound occurs.

COMP states that eight pumps of grease needs to be applied every 3,000 miles. Their product didn't even make it a third of the way to the first maintenance cycle.

Sorry to hear that. Back in the late 80's that is the reason they started water cooling the center section of the turbo. They lasted much longer. I converted my older Garrett turbo to be water cooled for my 1975 280z turbo. The engine and turbo came out of a 1982 280zxt.

If you are going to covert over to a Precision turbo, let me know. I will get my CJ Motorsports oil pan back from Mazworx.

Elmo's guys really came through on the new turbo. I have an extra, brand new exa pump I'll sell ya for cheap too.

I may just take you up on that. Already have an oil pan spacer w ports so I can run the lines

Wildly agree. Only difference is, I normally choose my spiteful women, and this turdbo was foisted on me. My understanding was that I was purchasing a water-cooled unit. Emailed Sasha after his first shipment didn't include coolant lines, which were listed in the purchase order he sent to me. He told I was getting air-cooled instead...

Well he should make things right but we all know his response was. It is very unfortunate to say the least. Maybe more accurate I should have said a bat **** crazy sister. You don't get choose your family and Rusty knows exactly what I'm talking about! LMAO
