im really excited about the RRP, not only so i dont have to even think about fuel starve, but also being able to lose 75-100lbs in fluid weight on track, thats going to be worth a significant about of time on track, and will feel SOO much better. also for street driving, i hate when im on the lower end of a tank, and have to baby a right turn interchange, not that im trying to go track speeds on the street, but its like we all modifiy our cars for grip, and even under the limits of adhesion on the street, our cars can fuel starve on a right

+1. My closest track has a very long, very off camber sweeper and even heading out with a full tank, I cannot run a single full session without having issues. That's even pussy footing around on street tires (my hard core track days are behind me and it's just fun 6 or 7/10's now). I don't even want to know how quickly fuel issues would show up on this track pushing hard on race rubber.

He might be thinking of doing a diff cover with just more capacity which will have the same effect in cooling as the fins. This way we can still jack the car up from the diff. We'll see. He knows what he's doing. Even with the fins it will have more capacity. But without you might get more.

the nismo finned diff cover from z1 fits a vlsd pumpkin. ( I upgraded to nismo finned when I put in my Quaife)
I'm sure Phunk's would be better, but there is a good (100 buck or so if I remember) option. Direct bolt on no mods needed. Nismo Differential Cover

ya i had one of those on my 350. i cant remember if its on the US spec nismo cars or jap ones or what. Its meant to go with the entire filled differential casing... but people add them to normal diff casing and get the very tail end of the fins. there is a normal nissan part number for that.

tonight we put the diff cover in the CNC to get exact locations for the bolt holes, etc.
After programming the locations into CAD, we played around. We have 2 drains, and 2 fills at the stock height. While there is added displacement, until we measure the stock cover (from fill plug down), i cannot compare. This is totally open for suggestion. This was just the preliminary results of messing around, and I am sure the part will change a lot before we machine it. So, looking for feedback on this! Got some mild cooling fin work there... theres not much airflow in this location but even those fins more than doubles the radiant surface area in the location. Some of the radius are unrealistic to machine in, and the thing might look a little more boxy before its said and done. Anyways... some of the first steps have been taken! I know I said I would post a new thread yet... but I guess I am not ready to take on a ton of attention for this right now. I would rather have a more solid footing. |
