Doran looked into it initially but decided that dry sump was the better approach for them (small HP gain as a bonus), so it got dropped.

Don't forget the stock oil pump, it is a weak link with high temps and constant high RPM's. The billet replacement is $342 part # 15010-RRZ3C1 ordered through courtesyparts from Nissan Motorsports. It looks like it is a bit of a bitch to replace since you have to pull the timing cover and chain to get to it. See Repair manual section LU-10.

Oh! I thought they still only had one that fit the 35DE/HR engines, or did it end up being the same part? In any case, good find. Maybe I'll do that and a pre-emptive water pump replacement next time I have a chance to dig that deep on the car, maybe later this year.

It's in the Nissan Motorsports catalog listed as "new" and is for the VQ37VHR. Whether it's actually the same part or not I'm not sure.

Yes I was planning on doing the water pump at the same time "since I'm in there" but really don't have any desire to be in there any time soon In other words I want the results but don't want to do the work.

Is there any kind of upgraded water pump, or are we talking about just putting in a new OEM pump for the fresh seals and whatnot?

That's all I was talking about: just refresh everything before it goes bad instead of waiting for failure. I doubt there's a true "upgrade" available, but it's possible once you dig around that there are multiple manufacturers of replacement pumps, and some are better quality than others. A somewhat-related example: instead of going to direct to Nissan, you can get wheel hubs (front and rear) from a couple of different aftermarket bearing/hub mfgs of varying quality and durability...

Right, no upgrade on the water pump that I'm aware of. They seem to hold up fairly well and failure isn't catastrophic like it is with the oil pump.

Any opinion on the various hub manufacturers? I ended up ordering my new hubs through Nissan since the price was the same, not sure who's Nissan contract parts supplier is.

The 350Z (vq35hr) and 370Z (vq37vhr) have the same OEM oil pump assy, part number: 15010-JK20D. After reading a few threads on here about catastrophic engine failure due to revving to 8k+ RPM, I will definitely upgrade to the NISMO oil pump assy, 15010-RRZ3C1.
