How big is this device? Where do you mount it so it's out of sight? Got any pics of your installation?

It's sad that those with high perf cars have to go protect themselves to such an extreme. Chances are higher end car shop techs don't abuse cars like those at mainstream dealers. After all, how many Z's, camaro's, vettes's, etc do these dealers see on a regular bases.

Now I'm going to be paranoid my dealer techs are driving my car around. I was asking them about the high pitched whine I was getting, and of course it couldn't be duplicated in the shop, so the service guy said, "We'd be happy to drive it around for you and listen for the problem!" I was like HELL no. Something about the excited way he said made me think of the valet scene from Ferris Bueller.

A couple of 19-20 year olds who happen to have loved cars enough to make a career out of it.

Before we call for their heads on a plate, let's consider their point of view. They are wrenching all day on Rogues and Pathfinders and in rolls a 370Z. They do some suspension work and when its done they decide it should be road tested before we hand it back to the customer. So far no crime committed, at least to me.

Ok, While were at it we'll pick up some lunch, oh, and see if the shocks reduce the roll while getting on it a little.

I can see this happening without any malice or intent to deceive anybody, yet some of us would send them home to tell the wife and kids, hey, lost my job today because someone who can afford a nice car didn't like me driving it and getting lunch.

Just sayin...

The next time you leave your baby at a hospital, go ahead and let the young 20 something nurse take it out to lunch. Hell, might as well get some shopping done while shes out. That argument is terrible.

IMO, they should be fired. It's not an ethical practice to joy ride the customer's car. Road test to check that everything has been installed correctly is fine... but going out to get lunch? I'd fire them on the spot as I don't want that type of person working for me.

yah, imaging telling the manager of the shop you're going to call up the local news station about it. they would have a field day.

F*ck that! Not his car. Period! If he cared about his job and his family so much, he shouldn't do something stupid to get himself fired. That guy/girl with the nice car worked just as hard to pay for that car. When I leave my car at a dealership, I bring it there for repairs, not to make your day less mundane.

I'm an architect. If my client let's me into thier house to take some notes and measurements, I'd sure as hell lose my job if they caught me in their hot tub....and all because some rich a-hole who can afford a nice house didn't like me naked in their backyard....just say'n.

You know when you get your car back and it has a white 12.9 on the front window, you have a problem with the techs...

Hey Ziggyman, you did this before, huh?

I can see your point of no malice or intent to deceive. So I'm in your camp, providing this is the 1st time these two techs did this. They should not be terminated. However a stern written warning should be issued to them saying that if this ever occurs again, termination will be swift.

In my opinion, if a road test has to be done on a car, then it should be done strictly for that purpose. The tech should also record the route, mileage, speed, quick turns, hard braking etc, everything done on that road test and results. Doing it this way will protect the dealership as well as give us (the consumer), assurance that the dealership took a professional approach in repairing our vehicle.

I'm heading to the dealer right now with my Z, so a couple of techs can drive it around to blow of some steam Keep in mind, this is the same dealer whose techs said that to remove the front fenders on a Nismo, the doors had to come off... plus they didn't remove the side skirts

My Brother is a mechanic for Battle Creek Honda. You just don't get to grab some lunch in other people's car. That's not how it works. Moreover, my car was never finished when they were getting on it. I'm pretty sure they could have tested the vehicle a number of ways.

They could have handled the situation much differently and it leaves a bitter taste. I'm not really pushing the issue with the dealership right now. I want the work completed on my car first and then hope to have a civil conversation with the owner.

To their credit, I have had excellent customer service from that particular dealer in the past... I guess you are only good as your last job.
