I did some research in this forum last couple months on springs and yes, Swifts is my first choice if I decide to lower my Z. Regarding the camber, I heard many different things on camber/lowering-springs, like happy and GaleForce, many says the camber and ride quality is nothing to worry, some said they prefer to go for camber-arm.


The other reason why I worry about the camber is through my own experiences, when I was still driving the bimmer, I lower it with H&R, not the aggressive one, at the first year was ok, but then the springs starts to have some slacks and it just messed up both front and rear.


Anyway, I'm gonna drive it for a while first and see how it goes, my budget for modding is kind of used up for now.. :icon14: since I just ordered the spoiler last week :tup:

BTW, Mr.happytheman, regarding the size of the DW for the front with OEM 19in size, I asked the tires store, they said Continental has DISCONTINUED some tires size recently, they managed to get me one pair for the front with OEM size but I think that's it.... :ugh2:

About the DW, so far so good and I am satisfied :tup:

It is quiet, and the ride is not harsh at all. I don't feel a big difference between the DW and the OEM 18in besides the DW is more quiet.

It is still new so I'm going test how it corners next week after the tires has break-in. :driving:

BTW, last minute weather forecast says the weather is sunny for Thur, therefore, I did this: The very left is Before, then middle is After, the very right is... yes, I clean the Z tonight..... it always rain the day after I wash it.... :shakes head: :shakes head: This is the 3rd time I waterless-clean the Z in one week. Hope there's no rain at least for couple more days.....

Peeled off my rear overlay and plastidipped my rear valance. The vinyl was peeling around the foglight and had melted from my FI tips

Alcheng, I can certainly understand your hesitation. I really cannot comment on the spring that you chose for the bimmer. I really wonder if it was designed to work with the stock shock like the Swifts are? I will say this much tho: Yer vert is looking :yum:

alcheng - the rims look great. For some reason I didn't realize you had a roadster.

Here's my two cents on the spacer/springs discussion. Get the spacers first. Decide how much you want the tires to move out and then do a little research. Ken is an excellent source for sizing once he knows the offset and how much "poke" you want. He pretty much nailed mine sight unseen.

As far as springs go, what you use your car for should be a big determining factor in the decision. As much as I loved my Tanabes and the drop it gave me, it was just too impratical for a daily driver in the area of Houston where I drive.

I don't know what your situation is, or what look you are going for with your car, but from the pictures posted above, it looks pretty classy.

Your ride will be compromised by the drop. I picked-up on a comment that Ken had made in another thread about the fact that you lose shock damping when you drop. I knew my ride was harsher with the Tanabes, but didn't realize to what degree until I had the original springs re-installed.

All of this is very subjective; it's your car and your money. It can also be a very expensive lesson if you don't do your research. I was very fortunate that my dealer comped the switch back to the original set-up, otherwise I'd have a much bigger hole in my wallet right now.

Don't get me wrong guys - I love the drops and the handling improvements and the look that comes with it. In my individual situation, it just wasn't the right thing to do. Just keep in mind that everything we do has consequences and complications we sometime don't think of when we get caught up in the excitement of modding. No one is more guilty of that than me.

Again, your car is beautiful and I wish you good luck with your mod decisions. Just be sure to post a lot of pictures so we can hitch a ride along with you.

Backdrop stands, lights and what not do not fit in the hatch, so it's another Ranger day. Boooooo!

Looks like we'll have a break in the weather so I'm going to take the Z for a ride today. Did a little touch on the front bumper I'm on rock chip #3 & 4 now. Very small.... There is no way to avoid them if you drive around here I guess. I'll just keep touching them up and in a couple of years I'll just get that bumper repair guy to respray mine for a couple bills. Same thing on the Vette. I'm just going to make it part of my maintenance. I just don't want to sweat it anymore. I'll just have the bumpers resprayed every 2-3 years if I have to. Funny thing is my F-Bird never seems to get them. Maybe the angle of the dangle or something?

Just had my Swifts installed yesterday. Camber & Toe came back to spec for all but one wheel. Even that one was only off .03. I'm going to see how the tires wear this summer and get another alignment after it settles for the season and see where im at next year. For now, no camber arm necessary.

It's a Contigo. You can shake it all you want or put it upside down and it's not going to leak. There's a button on the back of the lid you press to drink. I just put it on my passenger seat with my briefcase. No more reaching over a coffee mug to shift. :tup:

:tup: Thanks Steve, I hate doing that. I have a wing span of 6'6" and with additions of coffee mugs in center console, shifting becomes a pain.

I took my Z out to my tennis club last night, and on the way out, I ran into a fellow club member that owns a yellow Vette; don't know the year. He wondered whether my Z was brand new, and mentioned that my Z was really noticeable; it was also under the night lamp. I told him, "No. It's a 2010." I guess that my detailing job passed the test. :yum:

Anyway, it turns out, the fellow is a driving instructor, and tracks his Vette at Watkins Glen, NY. He invited me to come with a Beamer club or another club. Since I'm a newbie at sports cars, he said I'd have the most fun. I have a stock Base Z with Sports Package. What should I minimally do to prepare my Z for the track for the first time? What about the insurance company? Do you think that they would have a huge issue with my tracking my Z? I'm only looking to push my Z a little more, not a lot more, and do it safely under the guidance of an expert instructor. Any thoughts?

Also, what mods should I not do, if I want to track my car?

You should upgrade your brake pads, brake fluid, and add an oil cooler.

Most insurance companies won't cover track activity. Contact your insurance company to see if they do. If they do, GET SOMETHING IN WRITING confirming it.

There are boutique companies out there that offer track day insurance.

Congrats on going to The Glen. I'd give my right :nutswinger: to be able to drive my car in anger there. They don't like verts and won't let me without a rollbar. Look to do alot of time there if I ever get my ZL1 (Can you here me Chevy build and ship my car LOL) I've lowered mine caster/camber kit, sway bars and aero pieces. I would add an oil cooler, J-hook rotors, possibly new pads and a brake cooling kit. :tiphat: Oh and look into insurance for track days, your insurance won't cover you.

Not so fast! Sounds like I won't be tracking my Z anytime soon. My car is definitely not track ready. I need to compile a consolidated mod to-do list. :( That's okay. I might go and watch, and hang out. :)

You only need brake pads, fluid, and an oil cooler. Then the car is ready to go. You can add parts to the car later as you see fit, but seat time and getting a feel for the car as it is now is the best thing you can do.

For the Bimmer at that time, there were the two most popular springs for Bimmer, one is Eiback and the other one is H&R, they both offer sports and track/race. I chose the H&R Sports because the drop is more ideal and the spring rate will work with the stock dampers, and it turns out true, so I was happy with the ride and the height.

It's only along the time I think the springs started to slack bit by bit eventually messed up the camber both front and rear and only camber kit could help.

You nailed my considerations bulls-eye! Same as the Bimmer I had before, the Z is my DD, although it's only in Summer, but I do put quite a bit of mileage on it since my work is about 30km from my home so a round-trip is 60+km plus sometimes I go out and run errands on my day off. Yesterday I put almost 200km on it just running around the city.

My driving is a good mix of city/HWY, with HWY to work and mostly city when running errands.

With all those considerations, that's why a Swifts drop falls behind spacers.

The guy at the tires shop suggests a 10mm will do the job. Last night when I was cleaning the Z I thought a 15mm might also work.

I haven't make decision yet, main reason is I love to hear expert advices from you guys... (ken-san... ken-san.....)

I will do some snop shots on the rear these couple days and post it up here and see what do you guys will suggest.

Also, will spacers affect the camber too???
