I am taking it off right now, just finishing up lunch. Hopefully will have some pictures from the race to post later.

Side note- should I pay $175 for a full detail inside and out (no engine bay) by a local detailer hobbyist? He will do a great job from what I can tell and I don't have the tools or skill to do it myself. (I can wash and clay but that's it. )

hahaha!

He will spend just about all day, he says. Drop it off in the morning, pick it up in the evening. He does maybe 2 cars per month, only on the weekends.

My problem is I live on a gravel & dirt & dust driveway.. it's never going to stay clean :( But I mean for more protection than anything else, I was thinking about doing this detail.

TerribleONE 04-11-2012 01:10 PM

I would go for it then if you trust his work. sounds like a fair deal

yep. typically i was charging my buddies $50/hr and 5hrs minimum for detail inside/out. this included 1 step polishing, sealant/wax, interior cleaning, dressing the plastics, cleaning wheels/exhaust tips, dressing tires, enginebay wipedown.

if i require 2 step or 3 step polishing add 2hrs each step. expensive? not really. do i care if i dont get the business? NO. im a busy guy and unless i feel like im making some change, i dont waste my time cleaning other people's mess. :D oh, and i dont do minivans or suv's. lol

I changed my clutch helper spring and, now, I am a pro manual driver! :D Seriously though, it made a lot of difference.

kenchan 04-11-2012 02:36 PM

looks good, typeone!

hahaha, yep, i was skeptical but i did mine too and there is a gooooood margin of improvement.

TypeOne 04-11-2012 02:38 PM

I took out the helper spring and got the softer one and the pedal of mine feels so much better than it did stock. A stock Z is now hard to drive! lol

I took out mine but didn't replace it with a softer spring, it won't harm the car/clutch, right?? BTW, I don't find the clutch heavy wuthout the helper spring. :icon17:

EazyD 04-11-2012 03:07 PM

Can a helper spring replacement have a negative effect on the clutch wear? (i.e, will it sometimes be partially engaged with no foot pressing on it?)

yah you should be fine. MikeLB or LBMike or something's selling them in canada in the vendor section. i got mine locally since they're the same for the G37C's and a friend's friend got a few.

i dont think so. the pedal is back to its stock free position or very close to it when you clutch out. :)

GaleForce 04-11-2012 03:32 PM

I believe I'm one of the few/only people who didn't notice much difference between the stock spring and the helper spring. I will be reverting back to the stock spring.

thanks for the tips Mr.kenchan, so far I like the way how the clutch feels without the spring. In fact, I would love a heavier clutch point if possible. :icon17:

is pedal slop bad?

it wasn't too bad. there was like maybe 10-15mm of play at the top.

on stock spring it has clear indication when the pedal was back to its 'free' position but without the spring it went mush near the top. and i could physically move the pedal up a little with my hand or shoe.

with the softer helper spring, the pedal goes back to the 'free' position or very close to it.

The play is very little that after couple drive I completely forgot about it. :icon17:

update on my Z, the service manager called and told me the Z won't be ready til next Wed…… :icon14:

So I will have to stick with my rental til next week… :ugh2:

Well, I will drive my winter car most likely, so it's ok. It's better if they take their time and get the job done properly, since I know to mount the canvas properly is a bit tricky so I won't rush them. :icon17:

( Click to show/hide )
Thankfully both were new in box and therefore only took up about the space of a back pack.
