Processed out from Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base and headed to Travis AFB California for discharge. But before I left NKP I had to get some go home innoculations and sign off from the dispensary. At that time I received 2 GG shots - one in each arm. What's a GG shot, you ask? Gamma Globulin it is and it forms a large lump just under your skin and hurts like all get out for at least a day until your system absorbs it. You are only supposed to get 1 GG shot -and- it's supposed to be in your buttocks - not your arms. Needless to say I couldn't move my arms for a day or so ... making it near impossible to put my uniform on and even carry my duffle bag to the C-130 to Bangkok. Would find out later that the tech that [purposely] gave a double dose of GG was having a particularly bad day and was pissed off at the world. I think he may have checked one too many peckers on the VD line. And so it was in SEA back in the Vietnam War era. Fond memories of my time in the Air Force |

I actually 'bumped' in to the guy on an NKP Forum. Since he was there same time I was I asked him if he knew anything about it. He sort of admitted that it was he who did the deed - but then said: Back then I wasn't a nice person - after all, everyday I had to put up with hungover GI's with dripping junk calling me Pecker Checker - thinking it was funny. I can certainly understand that - but I wasn't the one mocking you out. oh-well. I told him that I had long since resolved the incident and it's now only one of several funny stories from my time in the military. All's well that End's well - and we both had an internet chuckle over it. |

What did you do? I was an Aircraft Electrician 423x0 and worked mostly on A-1 Skyraiders and some A-26 Invaders Got my hands dirty and my knuckles scraped on more than a few occasions. Here's a pic of an A-1H aptly named 'Magnet ***' because of it's propensity for attracting ground fire (and resulting bullet holes) during close support missions. Another pic of an A-26A (On-Mark Engineering B-26K conversion). Lastly - that's me - young and handsome on Christmas Eve 1969 sitting on the rooftop veranda of the Hotel Ubar when I was TDY to Udorn Thailand. |

Getting cut up on airplanes was more or less a given. We were supposed to wear fatigue trousers with buttons instead of zippers so as not to snag or short out electrical equip. I developed some mid range hearing loss from working on the flightline. |

Saw it in person - nicely crafted. |

I understand. We had a Communications Compound set near the middle of the base. Top Secret - monitoring Communist forces radio traffic from VN, Laos, Cambodia We were only 60 miles away from Hanoi - and 10 - 12 miles from the Ho Chi Minh Trail coming down out of the mountains in Laos. We also saw a lot of covert activity (Air America) cycling in and out of our base. To this day there are those who still don't want to talk about it...and up until fairly recently - myself included. You hear Nothing - You see Nothing - You know Nothing were the orders of the day. And unless you were there you really wouldn't understand much anyway. |

My old boss may have been there in the middle of the base. He told me one thing. He said, "If the base was ever overran the MP's had one order. To shoot him." I guess it is better than being captured and tortured to death by the enemy. Not cool.... |

Dang man, can't a guy take a nap cause he has to go back to work tonight at 12am. No numbers yet. They had to finish seating the piston rings and tune it. Tune it on 93 at 10psi of boost and then E85. I prefer they take their time. I suspect numbers will be tomorrow. Everything is doing well. No issues, which is a good thing with a fresh build.
