Default EVAP system - weight reduction

I will apologize on the front-end...I know i've seem mention of EVAC removal, but for the life of me I cant find the thread. Uuuugh!

I'm curios what lights and/or codes (if any) go off when the system is removed???

Any specific information regarding where people have disconnected the plumbing and connectors is appreciated.

If someone know the link where this info is at, just point me there and I go do the homework.

Thanks...yes i did mean EVAP.
Agreed. It's probably not the heaviest system, but i do have another agenda as well. I would like to clean the fuel tank area of the routed lines. So if i can remove the system easier than re-routing the EVAP line w/o consequences, it's a win-win...for me at least.

Thanks for any help/advise that can be offered.

Fueling system is my next focus on my car.

Well there can be side effects to removing the EVAP so you have to weigh it out. If its a street car / daily driver you will run the risk of a lot of gas vapor smell. If its a race car, who cares. If I removed it personally it would be just to reduce clutter in the car. I'm a neat freak.

Wink

If you have to have state emission inspections. Removing the Evac system might hurt you in passing the inspection. Something to think about.

Lucky for me I live in a state w/o vehicle inspections and fumes won't bother me as this car rarely makes it to the highway.

I wish I could recall who on this form mentioned it but I recall that some has already removed the system...so if your out there please reply. My primary concern is whether or not a code or warning light will be tripped that might put the car into some sort of reduced power mode.

To me, it seems the vapors are either being combusted or filtered. All the lines that i have traced are low pressure (like 1 psi) or less. I would do some testing, but my tank is out of the car at the moment.

Thoughts??? Anyone already removed the system???

Thanks

Mine is gone, was removed to make room for diff cooler. As far as codes, I can't say if any will be tripped because most of mine already were.

How funny. Spoken like a true enthusiast.

Certainly good news. I plan to remove everything from the engine fire wall and back. As such I would cap the line that plumbs back into the drivers side intake.

Did you do anything with the electrical connectors located at the "filter-box"? What did you do with the line exiting the tank...simply cap it?

Thanks!

you will have a few codes relied to that missing EVAP canister.
just disable them with Uprev. the car will run fine but you do need to plug where the Evap line goes in the back of the Intake manifold if you do remove everything ..

im one of the first that removed it because my custom muffler was not allowing me to keep it
I finaly had to relocate it over the crash beam !

Good to know...

I guess i will need to dive into the UPREV i purchased last year to understand how to clear codes. I have flashed one tune but I have not really explored all UPREV can do for me such as disabling codes.

Given there is no power loss, even with the codes, I am going to go ahead and disconnect the system. I will remove the components once I have the codes cleared

Thanks to all who contributed!

Interesting -- please let us know the actual weight savings if you do this.

Good luck!

5 pounds, if that. Make sure you remove the vent solenoid and leave the vent line open so the tank doesn't pop when the cars sitting in the sun. Route the purge line somewhere there is no chance of spark, don't cap it, you still want a way for the vapors to escape. Otherwise pressure will build and open the filler cap emergency relief. You're basically throwing gas away even if you don't care about the emissions.
