Just make sure when you purchase your helmet that it meets any of the SNELL or DOT ratings required for the track/autocross event.

For me, I had some older helmets that I used for my motorcycles and NONE of them met the requirement that I needed...just adding my $.02. Would hate that you bought a new helmet then got to the event just to be denied...

The helmet should meet a Snell Standard. The old Standard was Snell 2010. The one still be used is Shell 2015. The New Standard is Shell 2016. Also, helmets 5 years of age and older may not be allowed. Always check with who you are running with. If a helmet has taken a hit. Do not wear it again. Helmets are a one time deal. The foam liner in them is designed to crush on impact. Once crushed. It's done it's job.

The article is a bit dated, but gives you a good idea on the Shell Standards.

I've been looking for a SA 2015 rating since that's what most tracks require. If I had the money, I'd go for a Stig look...the black Stig since I have a black car....

Some helmets (Shoei xTwelve is one) have cutouts in the padding which allow glasses frames to pass through and over your ears more easily. It's much better in my opinion but probably more costly. Also, get glasses with straight(ish) ear hooks, or whatever they're called.

The Shoei X12 is a motorcycle helmet. Different requirements then a car helmet.

I wear glasses that have straight ear pieces so that they slip in easier.
