From what I have seen over the last 20 years or so, rating systems with a large number of voters seldom, if ever, work well. No matter how sophisticated the algorithm is, everything deteriorates over time. If someone/group doesn't figure out how to game the system, a small group of well-meaning, enthusiastic voters will skew everything. Accounting for strings of very high or very low votes is difficult (is someone really good/bad or are ppl stuffing the ballot box).
The "best" ratings systems seem to be the most simple ones. 1-5 (maybe 1-10) "stars". No rating displayed until x number of votes. Flags raised when lots of 1/max votes. Edit: Showing number of votes helps a lot. It might be better to weight the voters.

1. Look for two members who have near identical post count and check the rep (hard to do now) 2. You're absolutely right. Some people care other don't. I blame Obama

It's not worth wasting any more effort arguing over something this incredibly moronic. |
