I agree with this article... plus. In a world where affordable sports cars are scarce. In a world where 40k only buys you base powerhouse muscle or the only new used car on the planet. The Supra is a gift. I'm not even a toyota fanboy in the least. I wasnt a Supra worshipper of the past. I was an Rx7 guy all the way... But even I know Toyota wont put out an unreliable sports car!!! To think it will be is lunacy!!! That's one thing toyota dont play with that other car companies make secondary.

This car puts down respectable numbers. Seems torquey af and is a worthy entry with lap times that exceed its low on paper stats.
I know I know the corvette. But you're looking at $70k for a properly opted vette. Vs $54k for this properly opted. If $16,000 doesnt hurt you? Fine...
But for some $16k is gonna be a lot of extra car payment. And I can see them being sold for $50k out the door once the vette is out.

This might sound silly but it's the window down issue that's the deal breaker for me. I love driving with my windows down in good weather. But most people dont. So I pray Toyota sells the shyt out of these so Nissan and Mazda doesnt hesitate to make competitors.

After the dust has kinda settled from the C8 reveal, it was just a timing thing. People scratching heads about the Supra while the C8 came up with some mind-blowing claims (claims, so far).

I mean people will forget that the C7 was some awesome **** when it launched and I'm sure there were digs at Porsche at the time. Sub 4 second 0-60 (which is still pretty fast today), the 7 speed, MRC, styling and major interior overhaul (albeit not class-leading at all). Z51 was like pads and tires away from a track day. There wasn't even a Supra to talk about.

But now there is a Supra to talk about, and there has been nothing but promise for it so far. Adam LZ already has his 550hp in what looked like a straightforward turbo + downpipe swap, and meth install.

I still want to hold my breath on possible higher trims. I currently don't like how there are cooler vacancies and vents "ready" to mod (even the intake vent is blocked off). The Lexus RCF and GSF come with better cooling equipment. Yes the MSRP on those is higher, but this is supposed to the flagship sports car. So I imagine it's possible Toyota puts out a higher spec model, and that's likely going to be awesome assuming the price hike isn't insane. I still have my Gran Turismo dreams of owning one of the head JDM sports car models.

But yeah, still each to their own. I've also been leaning to avoid modding going forward (yeah buzzkill) with California and whatever laws kick in for automobiles with time passing. I'm even holding back doing anything more to my Z performance-wise. Probably would've been a different story if I had a space for a second car.

I think this is well said!! We can make endless comparison around configurations and sports cars. What do you like? What do you want for your driving that matters most. Not what others think EVER. Get YOUR car YOUR way and enjoy the ride. Windows down or up lol

Im keen to test the Supra and feel what is offered. The C8 is amazing on spec but what does the drive feel like. One may like the Supra more or the Vette C8 etc. Im attracted to both lol

Definitely... I'm attracted to any car made for sports with over 270hp in RWD/AWD or over 200hp in FWD if the price to performance is right. And I just dont mean on paper numbers.

Don’t sweat the wind buffeting issue, common problem with many sports cars since all the wind tunnel testing takes place with windows up normally.

Google “ porsche wind buffeting”. Solutions are out there, I’m sure there’ll be one for the Supra, esp since it’s German now.

Default Supra vs Mustang

https://youtu.be/zASl44yR1M0

This was an interesting matchup. I would've thought they'd use the Mustang PP2 considering the Supra Price. I think the Supra shouldve been either right behind or in front of the BMW M2? But it sounds like the Supra is balanced. It's more about the experience with Toyota. That should be their slogan.

You got a "like" from me for the last line.

Or: "Toyota, the Ultimate Ricing Machine".

Anyway, I saw my first one in the flesh last weekend. I think most stereotypical Americans (includes a lot of Canadians who hang out at dount shops) will have a hard time getting in and out, or being comfortable in the cabin. Very tiny car for 2020.

That's actually a + in my book. Cars are too big. If its 86 size? Its perfect!! That's the one thing I really love about the 86. The size

Actually, my impression was that the size comparison of Supra to the 86 would be like the 4C to the 370Z. I think you’ve seen the photos of that comparison I’ve posted before.

Edit: found this...

And this

The 86 being a known quantity, I’m not sure about Supra. Unless it’s like the Tardis - bigger on the inside. Guessing the C8 will be made to measure for American dimensions.

Saw a Supra in person up close on Friday. It looks worlds better in person than the pictures which don’t do it justice. Still not a fan of the faux vents on it, but that was the only real let down visually. The proportions are good, it seems bigger in the flesh.

The dash/interior is straight up bmw, It looks even more beemer in person, esp the shifter.

All said, I like it even more now compared to previously.

Hope the driving experience is up to par as well. In this rough price range, if I were looking for a new sports car/sports coupe, it’d probably be either this or an m2.

I actually haven't seen the comparison. Sorry. But in my head. I thought an MR2 that is rumored to be coming would be closer to a 4c than a Supra. I was surprised just to know the Supra had no back seats! But when I learned it was a two seater I expected it to be a direct Z competitor.

What I read about the return of the MR2 is that it's mostly thought to be electric.

Jackie Ding is the real deal. The kid drives the chit out of a car and has more experience than many of us combined. He did his early days as an Indy light driver. He bought the car with the soul purpose of competing in Global Time Attack. He also had track insurance on the car so he planned for the worst. I feel for him and admire his commitment to tracking and taking that platform to the top. I'm confident he will be back at the track in another Supra real soon.

Have heard this from others who know him as well.

Someone suggested that he wasn't even pushing the car at the time - dropped 2 wheels on the grass for whatever reason. It can happen. Sad to see it happen to any car let alone a new one!
