Ordered an oem spoiler from SS today. It should arrive tomorrow. Now the dread of drilling holes in my deck.

kenchan 05-16-2011 04:25 PM

hahahaha :D drilling isn't too bad. just use the correct bits. :p

i tend to use a step bit for metals. :)

svmtbman 05-16-2011 06:51 PM

Installed the GT-R start button and the rear carpet mat. Also have sone high flow dry filters on the way as well.

kenchan 05-16-2011 07:04 PM

Hey sounds like fun. :D

I unboxed the Ings. As with the mines, some prepwork needed. So will work on sanding that tonight.. :p. I should probably take it in to get some clearcoat too...

Did not like the rear set up at -1.6 with the fronts being -1.2 & -1.7. Also wanted to see about getting toe in a better ranger.

New alignment is at Fr -1.3 & -1.7 and toe at 0.6 & 0.9

Rears at -1.1 & -1.0 and toe 0.4 & 1.5

Much better and will see in 500 miles how they tires wearing. Then may try for front toe to be at 0.0 and rear toe at 0.02.

The rear really woke up bringing in back down to -1.0. Have not really wrung it out yet with this setup. Will see next Sat on the run.

Kenchan, below is the complete alignment spec sheet (reposted from another thread).

http://www.the370z.com/1100187-post588.html

Ok here are both alignment spec sheets for PG and Red. Note both cars are twins with identical mods. Also the alignment sheet is broken into halves, the top half is "Before Measurements" and bottom half is "Current Measurements" or after adjustment. Alignment done on Hunter Rack.

Obviously the fronts on the PG are wild with the difference between left and right being a 0.5 difference. This is where I would say not everyone is going to have this large of a difference. Notice the Red spec sheet, there is only 0.1 difference between left and right.

The rears on both PG and Red are fully adjustable with rear camber kits and toe bolts installed. I can dial in just about any toe and camber. I will probably run with this toe setting for front and back and see how tire wear is after a few thousand miles. I will want to try next time around for a toe of 0.2 Fr and 0.0 Rr. This current setting will give me a bit more tire life with the large positive toe settings.

The first setting I had on the PG was the Rr camber at -1.6 & -1.5 which felt real slow turning in. Hence the staggered difference with more negative camber up Front -1.2 & -1.7 and then in Rear -1.0 & -1.1 provided much quicker steering response and turn in.

I would have preferred up front with -1.3 to -1.5 BUT after two tries on the alignment rack and they did settle after the first alignment (one weeks worth of driving at about 120 miles). I am faced with this large difference in negative camber between front right and front left. A control arm will fix this, but will have to wait at $500 a pop per car.

The drilling doesn't scare me, it's not having an OEM template that does. Measure twice, drill once FTW!

Hopefully I'll have it installed tomorrow evening, I'll put up a couple of pics.

Tried to get my Nismo shift knob on, couldn't get the stock knob off...I am now drinking to ease the pain of being beaten by the stock knob...

Anywho, might drive her tomorrow...pretty nasty weather the next couple days...

If you must resort to the oil filter wrench, do me a favor and wrap duct tape all around that knob, over and over again. Then try the strap wrench on there. Then if that doesn't work, then maybe the oil filter wrench. The idea behind the tape is to wrap enough around to get a better surface to grip, while protecting the stock knob should you choose to use a filter wrench or even pliers...

Super Tanooki 05-17-2011 05:00 AM

Didn't drive mine today but I did order my first part for it: the Stillen 24-row oil cooler.

Now I'm looking for a Nismo shifter knob and a rear fog light. I was about to order the $50 OEM light, but then I found the below LED kit and it's flashing skills are BLOWING MY MIND (watch the lower of the two videos). How much do you think it'll cost to have it fitted?

The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts: EVO-R Rear Fog Flashing LED Kit, 09-10 370Z

Also, I wonder if there are any Silver Nismo owners who'd be interested in swapping their red Nismo engine cover for a non-Nismo silver one, for the color-matching benefits (or just to be charitable to an obsessive Red Z owner). Probably a long shot but worth a try :ughdance:

I'm looking to get one as well, but I want it to blink EXACTLY opposite of that setup. I want it blink while in reverse and glow brighter (or just turn on) when I apply the brakes.

Yesterday, I finished break-in. :driving:

Today: Not getting the car rained on. :happydance:

kenchan 05-17-2011 10:18 AM

Zforce- something's wrong with your alignment place. most places can get even toe angles on both sides with thrust angle no more than +/- 0.01. not sure why it's so off on both cars. were your cars in an accident?

The camber in the front is non-adjustable so unless you get a-arms no can do.

i would go to another alignment shop if your car is driving werd or tracking to one side. if you're fine with it i guess drive it as is.

kenchan 05-17-2011 10:20 AM

Just bought HPS post MAF tubes and K&N air filters. Also got a Samsung Galaxy Tab to put where the nav WOULD normally go on a touring model, but I have a NISMO.

Question: How much oil needs to go on this filter? I've only ever used dry-flows.
And how often should I clean it?

Very little oil, spray it very lightly you dont wanna over oil it. If you are putting drop-ins into your stock airbox K&N says they should last 50,000 miles before they need a cleaning.

kenchan 05-17-2011 12:27 PM

yah, very little oil needed on the intake filter. if you can see oil on your finger tips when your rub against the filter, you put too much. it should appear kinda oily but not wet.

im gonna stop by sears to pickup some UV coating for my Ings tonight.... while getting my free replacement for the failed strap wrench...

since it's kinda cold out still, im going to go with water based clear this time instead of my usual laquor (sp?)

True -- a VERY light coating is all that you need. It is a good idea to let your filters sit in the sun for a couple of hours after you oil them and before you re-nstall them as well. I also always clean my MAFs regularly when running oiled filters.

Last, K&N recharge kits come with two different oil containers -- use the one that has the aerosol can as it is easier to meter the oil.

Nitex 05-17-2011 02:28 PM

Put my sub box back in... Had to get every bit of weight out for the 1/4 mile runs last Friday

I was tempted to bump my way down the track though :icon17:

Dropped my car off for an oil change at the dealer. This is what I saw when I got back in.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3...1/8964dca4.jpg

How likely is it they actually changed the oil?

FuszNissan 05-17-2011 02:41 PM

Red__Zed 05-17-2011 02:43 PM

I use this stuff:

CRC Industries Automotive Product Detail

Remove the MAF (2 screws), spray and wipe clean with a microfiber or shop towel and then replace the MAF. It's as easy as pie and takes a whole 10 minutes for both sides.

If you still have the work order, look at the milage when you got there and compare to what you have now. It seems like (possible) someone went for a joy ride. If you wonder if they changed your oil, look at your oil filter, it should be a new one (no road dirt etc) Also, check the dip stick, the oil should be clear and clean. Joy ride is my bet. I would be pissed! This is why I change my own oil.

Washed the Z, filled up the tank, put 3M Tape in certain areas and getting it pack like a mule for ZdayZ.

SPOHN 05-17-2011 06:51 PM

Finally months after being lazy, I painted my oil cooler block off plate flat black. Instead of the silver plate I had behind the grill. Will look alot better now. I'll post pics later.

Just received my HPS Tubes and K&N Drop-ins. Installed the drop-ins, got my hands oily, tubes will wait till tomorrow when I'm at work and have tools.

Now, time to get coffee.
