Banks and insurance companies are scum though, lettuce (haha) be serious for a second. While I am against committing all type of frauds, insurance companies are quick to take your money, slow to pay you out. Think about it you pay a monthly amount and you may never use your insurance. If I pay $250 per month, over five years that's $15k I've paid and never made a single claim. . . Where's my "Good job bud here's a massive discount"?. That's just auto insurance. How about home?.

I get it people commit insurance fraud day in and out, and let me tell you this, these companies don't give a single **** if the rates push you to the point where you can't afford them and are forced to sell your car or take public transport. For companies, they only care about the bottom line, not you. Again not a legit reason to carry out fraud BUT, you should learn to play the game well. Always shop for rates, always give them hell over the phone (politely) and so forth.

Mom drives a old school Benz. Not a single spec of rust, it's a 2006, driven through every single winter. Mechanically sound and maintenance has been taken care by me since she's had it. UPS truck comes along a few months back and hits the Merc from behind. Insurance claims the damage is more than the FMV of the auto and says it's a write off, that or we can take the amount it's worth minus the salvage and do whatever needs to be done. Bravo.

She's never had a accident or tickets, insures two other cars and a house and has been a customer for over 10 + years. Where's the break? No where. The amount they wanted to give us for the write off was 10k, the quote from their chosen garage was 8k from what they could "see" and they would have to strip off the bumper to see if there was more damage. . . Sure. When we asked for another garage they declined.

All in all they care as long as you pay up and could care less amount increasing premiums.

Pretty much. Where you live also has a big impact. When I used to live in Virginia my rates weren't that bad, then when I moved to New York City the rates sky rocketed. Densely populated areas will have a big impact for obvious reasons. Some people do use those things to track if you're a safe driver or not to lower your rates. But I've heard that's a double edge sword.

I've filed a number of claims over the years and my insurance company has never once made it a hassle for me. They usually just took care of everything without even bothering me. Even when I disputed repair costs to make sure mods were covered they approved the changes in less than 24 hours.

Cheap insurance companies are the worst offenders. They have to keep costs down to stay in business, so they fight every claim tooth and nail.

Which do you have? That sounds like a good deal. I have Amica.

I've had a variety of companies. I shop around a couple of times a year and I don't hesitate to switch at a moment's notice. I've gotten a better rate from one company 6 months after leaving them. More than once.

If you do switch the biggest thing you have to worry about is making sure any lien holders get the updated insurance info. One time my mortgage company almost purchased outrageously expensive insurance on my behalf because they didn't get my new insurance info.

Jesus. Yeah I used to jump around a lot but then got lazy over the years and just stayed with Amica. I have heard that for modified parts on cars they may not cover them or give you a hassle if you get into a wreck. Fortunately that I've never been in a wreck but I don't want to switch back to the stock parts after an accident and start all over.

I have to agree with you. My premiums almost doubled in the last 4 years with zero claim. Unfortunately, every other insurance companies have also increased at the same time.

As far as fraud goes, it might have different definitions from one to another, but the one that disgusts me the most are those people who file false injury claims - someone taps the bumper at less than 5 mph, everyone in the car goes to the lawyer and file big money injury claims. This is likely one of the main reasons the insurance is so expensive.

I know this is of topic, but, I think there should be a law passed here in N.A, that every new car from 2019 onward needs to have a dash cam installed in the front and the rear.

I totally agree with you. the hardware is so cheap these days. that should eliminate many frivolous claims/suits and in return, maybe our insurance premiums will be a bit lower.
