However, there are members suggesting the break in period, which I guess you'll find out about your true mpg later down the road. For the driving part, you first said 20+ freeway miles. Now it's constant braking, 2.2 million traffic?

If in fact that the mpg does not improve, then we get to the issue of what you expect from the mpg quote of the manufacture. If the number in real life is different than claimed, then its called faults ad. Just like what RX-8 did with the hp rating. They gave money back to buyers. The fact sheet is what it is. The fact. Now I know that mileage may vary, but like I said before, the number as of right now is below average (not that good) based on the claimed number. Since your added stop-n-go freeway mileage, then i guess it changes my end a little on the mpg.

Gang,

This past summer we vacationed with a road trip out west from the Midwest. We drove our 03 350Z 7000 miles and the car averaged 28MPG and change overall. That included the mountains and the flat lands and speeds from 65 to 80+. Plus it also included spirited driving from San Francisco north to Oregon on the coast highway (Route 1)(That highway was a ball in a Z). There were several tanks that we got over 32. In the thin air of the Rockies we were down to tanks at 24MPG. Pikes Peak was a blast of a drive also (wife didn't like the the white knuckling).

It REALLY does depend on the driver. And the VQ motors (especially the VQ37) adjust to your driving habits. Chances are that my mileage is going to be pretty good, and performance won't be great because I drive like a grandpa.

That's great Educ8r. Gas mileage is always least of my worries but it's good to know you can get 300 miles out of a tank. I always think gas mileage debates are completely worthless. If you can afford a $35,000 vehicle, you can afford the gas. The difference (getting 18 MPG as oppose to 25 MPG) is such a small fraction of money, it's not even worth working up brain cells.
Here's a simple comparison how small MPG debates are worth (IMO)

12000 miles/year 18 MPG = 666 gallons of fuel used

12000 miles/year 25 MPG = 480 Gallons of fuel used

Difference = 180 gallons X $1.80 (gallon price) = $320? That's how much I probably spent in 2 weeks in junk food . I know I have to start eating healthy. But you get the picture.

$1.80?!? LUCKY! We're still above $2 here in Los Angeles (edit: for premium). But you're right, the price break isn't much to worry about. I just HATE filling up at a station because it takes so damn long. So the longer the tank lasts the better.

You're DEFINITELY going to get better economy with this new motor and trans. There's no doubt about it. When I get mine and it's broken in, I'm going to drive from Los Angeles, to Las Vegas, to Phoenix, and back to Los Angeles. Then I'll report my highway mileage.

i know on my G37... after about 5k miles the MPGs went up rapidly.. let it brake in.. it WILL make a difference on these motors.

My Trans Am got crummy economy until the motor was broken in. Then it got GREAT economy.

Most 6-speed V8 LS1 combos get about 32-36MPG on the highway.

Default How to find MPG

Sorry if this sounds like a know-it-all....but The way that I have always measured MPG is easy......I fill up and force-fill.......the tank.....dont worry about doing this, I have been doing it for decades and never had a problem with any car. By force-filling I mean: After you think your tank is full, I shake the car and let the gas level go down. Any car will hold and extra 2 to 3 gallons..........it may take about 5 minutes to get all the air out of the tank. By doing this, you get an accurate level to refill the tank on the next fill.
Record the miles till the next fill.........and then you have an accurate level to measure from...........the next time you force-fill your are going to know that the level is the same as before.....as in FULL

Say you go 350 miles and then force-fill again.....it takes 13 gallons.....since you know the tank has been FULL to the same point...you know that you have used 13 gallons....and your MPG was 26.92 MPG

To me this is the most accurate way to get an MPG for a car........I guess I am Squirrly but I do this almost every tank....

How much FPT (fun per tank) are you getting... that's the only appropriate question.
