Last night Negan and the Father get all chummy in the shed. His confession was weak, about not being able to put his wife down. He mentioned helping kids....So perhaps he was school counselor or therapist. I think the Father got bit, as he had the shakes in the hole in cell 2. Rick and Daryl fight, then bro it out. The helicopter was interesting....any cross with the comics on that???

Negan was a gym teacher before the apocalypse. There's a trade paperback calls Here's Negan that covers his past life. I don't remember anything about a helicopter from the comics, but there's one in Fear the Walking Dead and remember hearing something about a cross over, but they're on the other side of the continent so I have a hard time believing that's them.

Different times too, although Gimple really really needs to address how long it's been since the outbreak......Carl is almost full grown now, and people are aging. Its silly how they evade this aspect. It would make a much better story if he acknowledged that its a bit more than one summer has passed since Rick woke up in the hospital.

JDM was very good as Negan (and his backstory was consistent with the "Here's Negan" mini-series by Skybound/Kirkman, which is pretty good).

HOWEVER, comic Negan (and TV Negan too? They are more similar than dissimilar, unlike, say, TV Rick vs. Comic Rick), would have almost certainly stabbed the preacher, tossed bits of him out one side, and then walked out the other covered in maximum zombie goo, rather than share it with an unlikely ally.

Other than that, I will even give AMC a few points for making some sense of the "We're Negan" thing (basically it's equivalent to "Senator"/Outpost Leader).

Points lost for the fan service Rick vs Daryl fight -- total nonsense. Also, unfortunately, I don't think comic Rick (because Kirkman didn't think of it -- again this story arc is not really well developed... AMC has room to improve it) would have refused hurling in the dynamite to wipe out the Saviors and end the war.

I mean they did let loose a zombie herd into the Savior compound. That means a lot of non-combatants will die horrible deaths trapped in there (starve or eaten alive). Soooo, yeah, the out of the blue narrative about concern over the "civilians" is a little late.

Next week: The Return of the Garbage People?!?

Also, Rick threatens to wipe them all out if they don't help. Huh? What happened to not killing innocents? Not all the Garbage people betrayed Rick -- just their leader.

Yep! It's not bad, it definitely helps give some perspective into his nature. Also, gives some nice backstory on how the Saviors came together and alludes to the Dwight-Dwight's wife-Negan triangle.

Oh, yeah -- I totally forgot all about the helicopter sighting... that might tie into the current series story arc, now that I think about it... not enough story has happened in the last few issues for it to be a foreshadowing of anything tho'.

But, as likely as not, AMC will just do their own thing with it.

The whole art-performance of the Garbage People is stupid.....way too goth and Depeche Mode for me. They might as well start playing some Cure in the background. Have Robert Smith be Jada's boyfriend or something. And what about the lesbo fishing village?? What have they been up to? And can Rosita get killed already!!!

The Garbage People just don't fit into the TWD universe at all. They remind me of the "feral kids" in the last two original Mad Max movies.

On Z Nation, the "zompocalypse" has been going on for so long, there are tribes of "ferals" popping up, so maybe this is an inclusion of that idea (even tho' its been maybe two or three years in the TWD timeframe...). I dunno, I just find them too gimmicky and forced.

They don't wear enough black to be goth -- they feel more crusty punk to me, but who knows what their look is supposed to be based on.

I forgot about the fishing village... hmm.

I'm interested to see how they do it. I'm not completely caught up with the latest season of Fear the Walking Dead, but last time I checked they were on opposite sites of North America.

I also think I actually liked this past season of Fear the Walking Dead more than the last couple of seasons of The Walking Dead.

Well last night was an interesting experience. I didn't hate it, but based on the reactions from the rest the internet I don't know if I enjoyed the episode or I just don't have to energy to let it bother me as much as it used to.

Carl dying was a dumb decision by the showrunners, and the way they decided to have him go out was a disservice to the character. He plays a big of a role in the comic story moving forward that I can't figure out if they're going to keep 'loosely' following the source material or just say screw it and depart from it completely. That being said, I thought Chandler Riggs gave the best performance he's ever given on the show and it genuinely made me feel sad to see him go.

I enjoyed the Carol/Morgan/Ezekiel story, save the stupid cliche kid that is reasonably told he can't come fight grown adults with guns but end ups following anyway, showing up at the end and ruin Morgan's moment. Shame on the other adults in the group that were supposed to take him to Carols cottage. I also enjoyed the conversation between Ezekiel and Gavin. I always got the feeling Gavin didn't like being a Savior and serves as one of Negan's Lieutenants because the alternative is less enjoyable. You can tell he's still got some semblance of a soul in him somewhere.

On the flip side, holy sh!t watching Morgan literally rip the guts out of the at Savior in Ezekiel's theater caught me off guard for a minute. I forgot how brutal some of the visuals can get sometimes. I kept waiting for him to say, "I've got to clear" the whole episode as he was mowing his way through the saviors.

The problem is that I'm sure Morgan watching a kid stab a man through the neck will now send Morgan into yet another crisis of conscience, and the show will slip into the all too familiar struggle of we have to kill to survive vs if we lose our humanity what are we fighting for. They writers need to pick a morality direction and stick with it because you can only flip flop so many times before everyone stops caring.

Gavin is a classic middle management guy, that knows he has reached his station in life...as for Karl, I think Riggs contract was up and now that he is an adult he should be paid like one. I think AMC did not want to pay him. Morgan ripping the dudes gut out was even better than when Rick chewed the guys neck apart a few seasons ago. I like seeing Murder Carol back in action and teaming her with even more murderous Morgan was good. But the series needs direction and it’s stale. Work to some ending be it good or bad. It’s the same thing over and over, they find a nice place, a villain appears, they fight and lose the safe place. Then do it again and again.

So last night we get to see Jadis and her people get wiped out, then she gets them ground up in a car shredder.....into a pile of meat. Then she eats some applesauce, gee perhaps she should have made chili. Wasted episode.

Finally got around to watching it and I just don't understand what they were going for with this episode. I guess Rick is off the deep end...again. The guy doesn't understand what Carl meant by, "stop fighting and work together?" Yeah, that's a real brainteaser. Michonne's seems to get it, but she also risked her life trying to put out a burnt out building with a fire extinguisher because, "Carl used to sit on the roof."

One thing I did like was Negan's reaction to the news. He like/respected Carl in his own weird way and you could tell it actually affected his character, before Rick completely ignores his son's dying wish and starts threatening Negan again. I'm interested to see how Negan reacts when he finally discovers the Simon disobeyed orders and wiped out the garbage pail kids.

Speaking of which, they were finally proven to be completely unnecessary to the show, appearing and disappearing without doing anything of significance. Jadis is the only one left and she will probably make her way into Rick's group and he starts to learn Carl's final lesson, only to be relegated to the background or killed off right after some big character moment.

Aaron will probably end up getting Oceanside to agree to help, even though they've threatened to kill him if they see him again. My guess is he'll approach someone out on a scouting mission and get them to turn the rest of the group.

Last nights episode was fine. The Gabriel story ended up just being a big circle. Gabriel gets captured, gets sick, escapes, get medicine, gets captured. He goes blind so he can hit us over the head about how God is leading the way. But at least he's got a new job as bullet casing sorter in Eugene's new bullet factory.

The Hilltop finds out about Carl, and has a more emotional reaction that his own father. I want Maggie to become the new leader of the group at this point, but of course Lauren Cohan is in contract disputes for season 9 and just signed onto a new show for another network.

Tara continues to be stupid, but I'm interested to see how Dwight fairs now that he's back with Negan's group. At least one person knows that he's a traitor.
