Looks like the big kitty got gobbled up by a radioactive zombies....Daryl crashes his bike and moments later is up again and the rat bike shows no damage, at all. Rick crashes into a ravine and is not injured at all. The Savior in the back has a full auto machine gun and totally misses shooting Rick as he drives behind the truck.

Anyone notice all the weird tension between Rick and Daryl these days? What's that all about. I get why Daryl is not too eager to take prisoners if he can just shoot them, but the animosity bubbling in him towards Rick feels a bit out of left field. All in all, "All Out War" is not a very well crafted story -- in part, I think, because its much more complex and broad in scope than pretty much all story arcs before it. He just hadn't tackled anything that had to consider more than a small singular group of survivors, zombies, and maybe a few other stragglers. Even the Woodbury arc is really about the Governor vs. everyone who pisses him off, but the people of Woodbury (in the comic and the show) were really just regular people. Not so for the Kingdom or the Saviors, who are much more unified and militant (not to mention very "theme" driven). Kirkman's stories get much better after this one, so AMC has a chance to genuinely do a better job of following the outline and fleshing out the details to make them more coherent for the remainder of AOW (I actually kind of liked their "flash forwards"). So far, I haven't been too displeased with this season... so far ![]()

It's really petty and nit-picky, but it's really starting to bother me that they never fire any blanks and just cgi in all the muzzle flares. All of the scenes of people shooting, and every last one of them is just holding an empty rifle pretending to fire it.

Yep, they made such a big deal out of Eugene scrounging up the supplies to make one bullet, yet wasted hundreds of rounds shooting out all of Negan's windows.

For readers of the comic - is Rick actually a decent leader? On the show, I can't for the life of me figure out why people continue to follow him. He completely lost his **** a long time ago, and he makes some truly boneheaded decisions that get his people killed.

Earlier in the comic Rick was a bit... unstable...

like TV Rick to some extent, but for the most part people follow him because he is cunning (even ruthless) and seemingly un-killable. Basically, come hell or high water, he survives. Being on his side means you will probably survive too (of course, life is unpredictable when you've got the dead rising from their graves eating people...).And not TV character Carol, who went from housewife in abusive marriage to one woman Navy SEAL team un-killable. She hasn't gotten a scratch since season one. I mean comic Rick gets hurt BAD all the time and just keeps going.

That said, as in the TV show, every now and then, he has someone looking to take him out and take over, so not everyone is happy with him. Speaking of personality, I hadn't thought of this before, but if you have ever played The Last of Us, Joel's character is a lot like comic Rick.

Last night Negan and the Father get all chummy in the shed. His confession was weak, about not being able to put his wife down. He mentioned helping kids....So perhaps he was school counselor or therapist. I think the Father got bit, as he had the shakes in the hole in cell 2. Rick and Daryl fight, then bro it out. The helicopter was interesting....any cross with the comics on that???

Oh, yeah -- I totally forgot all about the helicopter sighting... that might tie into the current series story arc, now that I think about it... not enough story has happened in the last few issues for it to be a foreshadowing of anything tho'. But, as likely as not, AMC will just do their own thing with it.

Different times too, although Gimple really really needs to address how long it's been since the outbreak......Carl is almost full grown now, and people are aging. Its silly how they evade this aspect. It would make a much better story if he acknowledged that its a bit more than one summer has passed since Rick woke up in the hospital.

JDM was very good as Negan (and his backstory was consistent with the "Here's Negan" mini-series by Skybound/Kirkman, which is pretty good).
HOWEVER, comic Negan (and TV Negan too? They are more similar than dissimilar, unlike, say, TV Rick vs. Comic Rick), would have almost certainly stabbed the preacher, tossed bits of him out one side, and then walked out the other covered in maximum zombie goo, rather than share it with an unlikely ally. Other than that, I will even give AMC a few points for making some sense of the "We're Negan" thing (basically it's equivalent to "Senator"/Outpost Leader). Points lost for the fan service Rick vs Daryl fight -- total nonsense. Also, unfortunately, I don't think comic Rick (because Kirkman didn't think of it -- again this story arc is not really well developed... AMC has room to improve it) would have refused hurling in the dynamite to wipe out the Saviors and end the war. I mean they did let loose a zombie herd into the Savior compound. That means a lot of non-combatants will die horrible deaths trapped in there (starve or eaten alive). Soooo, yeah, the out of the blue narrative about concern over the "civilians" is a little late. Next week: The Return of the Garbage People?!? ![]() Also, Rick threatens to wipe them all out if they don't help. Huh? What happened to not killing innocents? Not all the Garbage people betrayed Rick -- just their leader.
