Tyre-warmers are banned in motorsport competiton down under in anything apart from F1.
Too many pit-bay fires in the 60's and 70's Besides, half the fun is your out-lap of half-warmed tyres .... old age and cunning usually beats youth and exuberance off the line and for the first half lap or so. All the kids run Pirelli "Gran Am"/GT style slicks which take 2 laps top come on .... me - I run Dunlops which are pretty much ready to run hard after the formation lap to the grid. Mind you, don't ask a Dunlop to do much more than a 10-12 lap sprint .. but a Pirelli will run an hour stint (or maybe even a double-stint). Last edited by BGTV8; 12-20-2019 at 08:04 PM. |
