Default Built Manual Transmission

Im almost finished my trans build. I have all new cryo treated shift forks, and brand new Racing synchros. With the new synchros this tranny is bad ***. My

5th gear and baulk ring is trashed from the stupid thing grinding like all hell. I have no idea where to get this from. Any ideas would be awsome theres really no information out there. Mabe the 350z and 370z use the same gear and ring? Any info would help alot.

What's the cost estimate for a rebuild? My 3rd gear synchros are toast and 5th is starting to grind occasionally. A new one was supposed to go in today, but our area was hit by a tornado Saturday night. The still dealer didn't even have power this morning.

This is the first prototype and we put the new synchros in it and we tryed to reuse my original fifth gear but it was to beat up but needless to say 1-4th shifts was bad *** with these synchros. I want to offer it to everybody on here because I know this has been a bad problem in the z car. The rebuild is looking like around 2000 but I'm not exactly sure just yet. We havnt tested this over a period of time yet. These synchros were built to handle 24 hour long races but we not sure how they'll hold up in a daily driver but were confident you can drive it till the wheels fall off lol.
badthing likes this.

Wow that's nuts. I just picked up my car with the new transmission under warranty (tee hee). I can finally enjoy smooth grind-free shifts haha. It's such a waste to ditch the original one so I'm going to see if it can be kept so it can be rebuilt at a later time.

I'd definitely like to see them offer something for the masses.

Yea to open the tranny and install the parts is actually cheaper then 1000. I was just referring to your cost of removing the tranny and any other surprises. I def wouldn't do it to a tranny with no problems or a car under warrantee but if your going to do any kind of aggressive driving your going to tear those synchros up again and quickly. This trans I'm working on was trashed. The shift forks were bent and all kind of crap happened. With the new parts this tranny will hold power with aggressive driving with no problem. Anyone tracking there car would def Benifit significantly. It's basically a built tranny.

You wouldn't ditch it we'd take the trans you have in it and install the new stronger components. It's just like installing a transgo shift kit into a auto.

You can buy tranny parts from Nissan with the correct part numbers. The synchros arent Nissan that's all I really know. My mechanic is a tranny genius. I can give you a pic with the parts and numbers if ya want. The syncros is the special part man these things are sick.

Very interested in pics comparing the parts if you've got them, and some more info on the syncros and where to get them etc. Thanks.

ok im going pick the car up today. tranny is done and installed. Im going to put some hard miles on it the next couple days. As for the synchros they arent nissan syncros. As much as it hurts to know it but its ford raceing syncros lololol. I really dont give two ***** since this tranny shifts like a mofo now. As for the parts to rebuild it is regular oem parts which is definitly strong enought for our cars. The weak point is the premature wearing of the syncros. I will be working a price out for doing this build for all of you with the same problem. All youd have to do is send it too us then well send it back.

Are there any options on new ratios? I'd like a really long 6th gear to go with my 4.11:1 rearend.

yep there are aftermarket gearsets but there realllyyyy expensive. I can do some research for ya. That would be a really good idea for the guys with the rear end gears like you. you could get your hwy mpg back.

Hmm, sounds like it could be a winter upgrade for me The syncro's are the worst part about this transmission, thanks for doing this!

FYI a new transmission from Nissan is around $3000. A rebuild with better parts sounds like a much better option.
