But seriously folks. Back on topic.
Brian! What's the status of the Nav DVD Camera Harness Hack? Do we have a solution in the seat heater switch or have you found something else that will work? Connectors? Have you sourced the plug ends yet? See what happens when you leave us to our own devices?! Ooops. here we go again...

The heated seat switch will work, but I'm will need to make a little circuit (transistor or relay). Not found a source for the connector for the heated switch button but not really spent any time on that. I'm hoping that if we cant find a single connector that we can use a individual connectors for each of the 6 pins. |

As for the individual pins to the switch, I am fine with that...

Before I get carried away I want to check on the budget side of things. The harness is actually bigger than the backup camera one with 32 pins vs 24 pins and therefore more time consuming to make (and the backup camera one wasn't quick). I think the harness is going to come it at about $100 (maybe a little more) and then remote solution will add about $50 and the heated seat switch, connector and relay circuit will be about the same ~$50. $150 for the kit (either switch or remote_ seems expensive to me when it could be achieved for a lot less, but just not plug and play but that is what it is going to take for a plug and play solution. What do you guys think? |

But to answer you question. Yes, you do need a harness, those are just cameras. With a US2010/11 you need a harness which gives you a way of plugging in a camera and getting the factory gridlines that move with the steering wheel. With a US2009/10 you need a video converter and harness and will not get the factory gridlines. Regarding the cameras themselves, I like many others have used the Kenwood CMOS-200 cameras because it fits exceptionally well, is a very high quality camera and the viewing angles etc are well suited to the gridlines. Those other cameras will work (with a harness) but cant speak to the quality. Last edited by bdl99; 12-23-2011 at 07:20 AM. |

Demona ........... I'm calling you out on this one. I read both of your posts on this forum. Appears you are a vendor or have a financial gaining relationship with the vendor 12vcity.com. All reading any comments / posts here by Demona, should be aware that his posts should be scrutinized heavily / ignored. Again guys, beware of forum posts by Demona! |

Sounds about right. You are going to a lot of time and trouble to create this harness solution so I think people will be willing to compensate you appropriately for your efforts.
Any thoughts on how to mod the switch top so it doesn't look like a seat heater?! I would like to get a blank rocker top with pilot lights if possible, but that would require access to the manufacturer I guess.

Brian - the solution your working sounds good and we all appreciate the hard work and the good quality you've delivered so far. The price is at the high end for me...I was thinking it would fall under $100...but its not yet a deal breaker at $150 considering the complications coming to light. Your camera kit was top notch so I hope the price point on this doesn't drive the demand away.
What would the price difference be if there was a partial kit/DIY that could use the same type of switch/remote but may require some splicing? |

Ya. The labour is the issue on this kit as he is going to be building this wire loom by hand and there are a considerable number of wires that will need to be inserted into each end of the harness, plus the switch/remote configuration.
Keep in mind people, this is a kit that would take a tech a couple of hours to install in a shop ($150 labour there) plus at least a couple of hours to assemble by an electronics tech (wire loom, connectors, config $150) plus parts ($50-$75) Brian needs a reason to do this other than the goodness of his heart....

I would still be interested in the remote option at the $150 price point, but not till after the holidays. I also had a few questions: I haven't had time yet to install my back-up camera kit yet, so I was just wondering if there is enough space behind the dash to hook up the back-up camera kit with the bypass kit and remote module. Also, do these all just plug into each other?
