I'd move the proposed rears (18x9.5 et15) to the front and get 18x10.5 et15 for the rears

So I've been pondering the idea of switching to 18"s. Mainly rpf1s 18x9.5/10.5 +15 or possibly other 18"s with comparable weight and price. I'm Currently on oem sport rays square rear setup 19x10 +30 (275/35/19). My question is are there any significant performance benefits of doing this ? If switching to a 18" wheel I would want to run a taller tire. 40 series at least. 18 pound fronts/19 pound rears (rpf1s) vs 23.8 pound wheels I'm currently running (oem sport rays) . Is reducing unsprung weight as important for say highway pulls and spirited canyon driving ?

Reducing unsprung weight is important everywhere but as I recall the effects will be noticed most in low RPMs. But you are lightening the drivetrain you will feel faster response to inputs. I’d say it will help highway pulls but it will help canyon roads the most. Either way you are reducing wheel sure but make sure you look at weights with tires. You are increasing tire and they weigh just as much as wheels in most cases. Don’t pick heavy tires for your light new wheels or you will just be wasting time. |

It is all about how far you want to chase that rabbit down its hole. You can buy two piece light weight rotor and reduce unsprung weight even more to negate the weight of the tire. Depending on what you are looking for if you go with a smaller diameter tire like a 295 or a 315 it will effective have the same effect as changing your gear ratio and the car will accelerate faster in short runs which is what you want for tracking and canyon runs.

True. Also should have mentioned i have 4.08 gears ready to install. And I will eventually add lightweight rotors a little later down the road. Did some quick calculations on willtheyfit.com and a 305/35/18 has a diameter of 670.7mm vs 675mm for my 275/35/19 I'm currently running. More rubber and comparable diameter sounds good to me ? That and a summer 18" tire is probably lighter then my current 19" all season tire lol. Guess I'll start my search for a set of rpf1s. |

As these were installed for cold weather use. I’m not gonna “Roast” the tread from these & hopefully get a few winters of driving out of them....they sure are narrow vs. 285/35,345/30/19’s,,,but are put on for serving a purpose & are doing well.

There's only 1 way to pull off 18's on the Z34 wheel arches:
![]() Full track setup (@TonyZ34) everything else looks sad to me. even the stock nismos come with 19's

Also regarding 19's on a track car, most grassroots racers try to stay away from anything larger than 18's for the following reasons...
