That makes a lot of sense. Since a typical street car is going to push a bit that is exactly what I'm looking for, and if I'm pushing I want to know it, and gauge how much, and if the front wheels should start to grab I want to feel it right away in the wheel so I can dial out some steering angle and/or get ready for the ***-end to start coming around.

You did bring up a great point earlier which I will elaborate on when I get to a computer.

Less than a year in of ownership, that's not something I want to do.

When I break even, the '15 GT will be out, BRZ STi will be out if it ever will be, and I will have a new body-style of 370Z to consider, maybe.

I guess since a house and land are my goals first and foremost, this is the best solution. Using this accident as an excuse to downsize will just land me upside down in ANOTHER car. Mine may be dicked up, but I can rake them over the coals until they get it RIGHT, and it is still a $45K MSRP vehicle. If indeed I am $5K upside down, plus $5K in damages to resale value, that is a $35K car that I will owe $45K on, and that's BS. I would rather just keep this until it breaks even and dump it, or, if it's doing just fine by then and not giving me issues, just keep it until it dies of natural or irreparable causes.

Even if I radically down-sized into a $25K car, I would still be paying $35K for it when everything is all said and done is my guess, and that's opposed to the $43K or so I financed. I would be paying on a note that is $8K less, which is something like $100/mo which means nothing to me and wouldn't help me in any way other than I would hate my car and be able to save another $100 a month, which I am currently saving $2K a month, so another 5% per month, or $1200/year. Not worth it.

Thoughts/ideas?
/\ you're right about keeping it being the best option, $$$ wise, no quesiton. Good repair job and it'll be almost as good as new. I say almost b/c if you're like me, it could objectively be good as new but it'll still eat away at you anyway.

Keep focused on the big picture, house etc, that's what's really important not the car.

Finally, depressing thought, you could wind up getting a new car and a week later be involved in anohter accident due ot ashitty driver so if taht happened again to your Z, you'd be less upset than if it happened to your new car...

Something that comes to mind w/ "better balance & handling" is an E90/92 BMW M3. Same front-engine/RWD layout, but with a 4.0 liter V8. The coupe version has that cool carbon=fiber roof to 'lower the center of gravity'

However, a 2008 example will cost a bit more than your $35k budget. . . closer to $45k.

Yea, that's kindof where I'm at. I'm not as into cars now that I'm more into class 3 firearms. Shifted hobbies, so I'm not as freaked as I would be a year ago.

Just stay on top of that bodyshop and don't accept anything less than perfection. I made a bodyshop change out the screws holding the fender liner to the fender on a vehicle taht was in an accident a long time ago b/c they didn't match the oem ones.

I'm sure it will turn out well tho, seems like that bodyshop is decent. There'll be a plethora of really good cars coming out within the next 3 years or so so when your's is paid off, you'll have lots of options.

Car has not been touched, yet. Insurance company's adjustor is saying that I wrecked my own car (even though insurance and their insured have formally accepted responsibility) and that the rims on the right side were already destroyed/curbed to **** (even though the body shop it's at now, the RIGHT one, says metal is flaking off of the curbing and it's definitely fresh).

I'm still in a rental. No work has happened yet. I'm going to spill as much metaphorical blood as I can via my lawyer. BTW, here is a pic of his toy, my lawyer is a bit of a car enthusiast himself:

No, I don't believe so. He bought the car (a 2008) a couple years ago for a steal off Ebay out of NJ. I don't want to publish the price, but it was a total steal.
