Its disappointing on a number of different levels.

I never said I hated it. It's nice, but it's a BMW. It had a HUGE name to live up to and it falls short thus far.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions: good, bad or indifferent.

Hate is not the word here homeboy. People aren't hating, they are pissed at the fact that toyota screwed the legendary supra. This is a huge let down for a lot of people. Even to the supra owners. You think they'd sell their old supra to buy the new one? lmao. The steering wheel looks like the steering wheel of an suv! I don't really care, as I was never intended to own one anyways. I'm fine with the Z and the 911 4s

Imagine if the next Gen Z has an Acura engine and mirrors one of their cars. How would that be received by the car community, and more specifically by the individuals in this forum? Not well I presume. This is exactly what happened with the new Supra.

It just seems to me Toyota didn't take this very seriously. Why not build an all original body and use a high performance engine from Lexus? That would have made a lot more sense to me.

Agree - you'd think that the RC-F platform would be the perfect place to go to in order to find the drive train.

I get that this car is not going to be a mass market beast and that finding economies of scale is the only way it could be built. But looking in-house would surely be cheaper, offer the most control of the product and process, and be a nod to the ability of Toyota/Lexus engineering. As far as the actual manufacturing is concerned, modern flex lines should have allowed low volume production of the Supra at an existing Toyota facility, surely. And Lexus couldn't have made it any uglier! :-D Toyota already had the fairly well received FT-1 concept to work off of.

On another note, anyone see the new 2020 RC-F "Track Edition" also released at Detroit this week? For the price of about 2 new Supra's you could get from 0-60 in 0.2 seconds faster. Hmmmm.

Companies are part sharing due to cost of Sports car R&D. I'm sure if this version replace all? The next gen will be a more toyota focused vehicle.
One of the rumors for the next gen Z is that it may be powered by Mercedes?
The vr30dett came out but the next Z may have a 4 banger base model by Benz. This is what the globalized market is doing. Not saying I like that...
Remember that the Supras b4 the MK4 were designed by lotus. So maybe the next gen Supra will have a 3jz...

I try to think positive in the sense that. Everyone is abandoning sports cars or is scared to excel in the sports Arena, like Nissan. At least Toyota got some balls back. Cuz they were What Nissan is now just a few short tears ago.

I'm just waiting for a review n hopefully a test drive before I have a full on opinion. I know that BMW 8 speed is extremely fast n smooth. I'm just hoping toyota tuning will give the 3.0L engine more sports car grunt.

Like everyone else though. A 3JZ woulda been nuts. Here's hoping for a next gen 3jz.

0-60 time is impressive. I hope it isn't a one-trick pony(car), and can handle a turn or two.
I still maintain that nobody is cross-shopping a Toyota with a Porsche, but having some convenience, a nice interior, some creature comforts, and still being able to throw the car around will give performance oriented drivers an option.

That weight still bothers me, though. Has to affect acceleration, braking and cornering adversely. I'm afraid that they created a fat grand tourer butter-knife instead of a track scalpel. Hopefully, some clever people will discover that much of the heft is surplus to requirements, and can be shed without making the car un-liveable.

Looks ..ok.. performance just ok for price.
Original Supra was Toyota. Problem is, this is a German car in a kimono.
If I want a BMW I'll buy a BMW, pay for it yes, but get a pure model.

One of the biggest positives about the A80/2JZ was its ability to handle big HP out of the stock block and gearbox.
I don't think for one minute this one will have been built to be able to do the same, so in the end it will be just another 'meh' JP coupe.

If it's fun to drive and allows it to remain affordable, sure why not.

Where is TuRD though all this? Like the majority of consumers, I'm assuming they were too busy moding one of their SUVs to be bothered with the revival of Toyota's most successful sports car in the company's history.

Don’t hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

Yeah, I suspect that the dealerships will be loaded with TRD accessories before the car even gets there. And there is probably a TRD “performance edition” in the works for the moment the demand for the initial release wanes.

Toyota isn’t one to miss a trick in that respect.

It's technically a GR (Gazoo Racing) Supra I think? Not sure if there can even be a TRD? Though I imagine there will be plenty of accessories. TRD has gone the way of BMW M.

Ha... You might enjoy this article. This guy says the Supra should've been an SUV. LOL
