Love or hate the Juke, this does not bode well for things like the Z and GT-R.

They're slowly eliminating anything borne of imagination from the lineup. I just don't understand it.

At this point, I would bet the house on 2018 being the Z's final year.

The 2018 & Heritage Edition will probably be the last Z (34) we see.

The news 2 weeks ago stated that by the year 2030, gas cars will be too expensive for middle class people to own and we will be forced to drive electric chariots or some dumb shyt like that. Are we as a society going to allow this to happen. I feel like I'm losing a freedom and a right. It's really angering me!!!

Electrics can be just as enjoyable to drive, if not more so, than ICEs. Check out the flat torque curve of electric motors.

As battery technology progresses and economy-of-scale kicks in, things will just get better and cheaper.

See also: Tesla Motors

But, yeah, I think most people on this forum would miss the sound and vibration of an ICE. I know I would. But I've learned to live with a lot a changes - some of them I actually like.

You're not telling about anything new. I understand the benefits of electric motors. It does nothing for me. If I wanted that experience my anger wouldn't exist.

There is no fun in a electric car other than sudden torque. No noise, no vibrations, no feel, no senses.... nothing. I don't wanna be driven by a computer in an electric chariot in a few years.

I want gasoline... failed emissions and high horsepower. I want loud engines high revs and a loud exhaust.

Electric go karts are for circle tracks in amusement parks.

You don't get the sensations or smells from an electric car regardless how much torque it has. I'd miss simple things like pulling up to a stop light and a waft of exhaust slips by you which you can immediately identify as a byproduct if your test pipes. The imperfect vibrations when you manually blip a downshift, even the momentary road from a cold start that's louder than it needs to be but signals go time when it evens out. There's a zillion things beyond the skinny pedal that you just can't get from anything else.

Thankfully I can't see a revolutionary change like that taking place in the next dozen years. Not to that extent anyways. Pistonheads are safe, at least for the time being.

Your right to drive an internal combustion engine-powered car?

The rear-wheel drive sports car like the Z is a niche vehicle, and a $30,000 niche that's shrinking as technology in that category advances. Not enough people are buying the low-tech (normally aspirated, for god's sake!!) sports cars....they're buying in the $60k-$90k range. The Corvette has consistently sold 30,000 units a year since 2014. The Z is currently at about 6000 (2016) and it's been declining. A lot. I suspect that the only reason the Z is still alive is that the tooling and assembly line is already amortized. As technology advances and the Z doesn't, it's sales will soon fall below the level where it pays to keep it in the lineup. I think 2018 model year is a good bet.

Internal combustion will be available as an exotic only.... it's your right to be accepting of the New World Order, a world of laws and modern slavery. Separation of the classes is what I see. And controlling the middle class in every aspect while not putting limits on the rich....

Tell me how is it... Subaru sells less cars annually on a car that IS NOT PARTS BIN except for the engine and stays committed?

Subaru BRZ US car sales figures

The FM platform is the whole infiniti lineup. The only thing our cars have not parts bin is the sheet metal, SRM program, and interior bits Even the brakes are infiniti parts bin.
There's no rocket science to our cars...

There's room to sell our type of sports car with an average of 6,000 sales a year as a parts bin car.

The corvette sells that much because the only thing parts bin is the engine. And even that, not really, because those engines start in the vette and trickle down.

REAL enthusiasts know when you buy a CORVETTE. You've bought the best in attainable from the ground up engineering out there. This is the first time in 40 years or so the camaro has had the privilege of being as close to it's own car as possible.

The Z33 and 34 are not the high cost ground up cars of the past. They built them that way on purpose. So they can produce the car with low sales numbers. The 350z was not expected to sell as well as it did those first few years. They thought that they could repeat that success in the Z34 and it didn't work that way and now they're Butthurt and wanna sell NWO cars and appease world leaders.

Chevy will continue to make rebellious cars because they understand why we fought a revolutionary war. They know what America stands for. Maybe my next car will be a corvette out of principle? But let me say this.... We have a car culture here, Puerto Rico and in Japan like nowhere else in the world. And Nissan sold out. Plain and simple.

Nissan has been selling between 5500 and 8,000 cars since 2011. It's not declining or rising. Which isn't bad considering it's so freaking dated. If they would've done right by the Z it would've been 10,000 units but they didn't make necessary changes like lazy stingy bytches

Well, it's hardly surprising that if you don't update it for 7 years, and you don't promote it, sales are going to plummet.

Funny that I'm pretty aware of the rear-wheel-drive sports coupe market, yet when it came to looking for one for my wife, I did't even think of the 370Z at first. Genesis coupe (about to be discontinued), Toyota 86, various Porsches, Miata and Fiata all came readily to mind. Muscle cars, too, although I quickly came to my senses there! It wasn't until I spied a used one that I even remembered the 370Z. I think it's just lazy business practices that are keeping the Z34 on life support. As MacCool said, it's paid for itself. Since new development costs money, why not just keep producing this for now with very few changes? It truly was one of the best cars you could buy for the money and the purpose. But the market is passing it by.

The Juke is a far more imperfect car, but well received for years. It's sales, too, have almost been halved. It probably is time for it to go.

Just because this series of each is coming to an end, doesn't mean goodbye forever though, does it? I don't know about Juke, but I'm sure this must have been posted here before:
Nissan Z Concept Coming; Production Car Could Reach 500 Horsepower

I recall a recent interview with some design person from Nissan, too, talking about how the Z was dimensionally bigger than its predecessors, and he implied that the next generation would be on a diet. That was promising news on several fronts. It probably means a smaller, turbocharged engine, but if the output is where it should be then that's not the worst thing in the world.

Yeah, electric, automated people-movers are the way of the future. Fortunately, not the immediate future, and I'm old enough that they are not likely to feature in my time horizon. Lets not lament the demise of the internal combustion engine just yet. Mark Twain's famous comment definitely applies to this thread.

The gencoupe is NOT dead. Basically it's on hiatus. They've made the genooupe way more luxury GT and it will return in 2020 under the Genesis brand. Not Hyundai. Even Hyundai hasn't nixed their sports car.

This article about the Z came out after the one you posted

The 370Z Is 'Not a Priority' for Nissan

And the news is trying to pound this in people's heads.... Damn nut n tree huggers...

Default No JUKE.... Im almost sure that means no Z either.

I don't get why people keep slamming the 370z.

One brand comes to mind that has several cars in its lineup which have not seen a redesign for a long time.......Lotus! Does anyone complain? NO! That's because the Elise, Exige and Evora are the type of cars that people want. Driver cars with relatively low tech. Yes the Evora recently received higher horsepower but the engine still remains the same low tech Toyota V6 nevertheless. Keep in mind, the Evora was designed in 2009. No one is complaining. We won't even talk about the Elise which has remained almost unchanged since the mid 90's except for new skin and mild engine tweaking. Again, simple low tech Toyota 4-banger.

On the other side of the spectrum, look at what happens when a car maker tries to reinvent the wheel by stuffing as much useless tech as they can in redesigning a car that was originally the holy grail of sports cars. Yes, I'm talking about the new Acura NSX. It's turned out to be a sales flop. Too much tech that no one wants at an uncompetitively high price. With all it's hybrid technology, V6 turbo and different drive modes, it has a hard time even keeping up with cars in its price range.

I think the present Z is a modern classic that is still unique, fun, fast, beautiful and therefore will be highly sought after when gone.

all of this is interesting looked at carsalesbase.com and saw that the Genesis Coupe out sold the Z, 2 to 1, only reason I bring that out, the Genesis is my DD (its the base model).. In a way I wish they would kill it, might do something for the re-sale value.
But I would never get rid of my Z, it is too much FUN...

Well said....
Lotus is also a struggling car company yet they remain true to their loyalists and keep producing the cars the ENTHUSIASTS want. While they may use Toyota engines. They can't supplement low sales with Camry profits.

The Z doesn't need better tech. Keep EVERYTHING that makes it great now. Just enhance that sheetmetal, give us that turbo and update the interior appropriately. Keep that handbrake, hydraulic steering and old school traction control.
