"So what have I done here?
I elongated the front end/hood area, for old time's sake. A better hommage to the timeless datsuns, yes please? I reworked on the front bumper, giving it a longer and more pronounced nose. and that grill... is looking less like sponge sucker squarepants.
The rear panel is also completely in carbon fiber. I decided to pull the carbon fiber finish way down instead of just where the taillights are, and I think it's much better."

This is 100% what I would love to see. Even just making the rear part under the tail lights in carbon fiber/black looks so good now. It hides that big hump in the back. Even though Nissan realistically won't elongate the wheel base, if they just made the front grille/fascia similar to this they'd have a one of the best looking sports cars out right now.

Before the PROTO pics came out,I saw a new Mustang in a parking lot.
Side view just like this one. I said, the Mustang sure did take some tips from the Z.
Now the new PROTO Z looks much like a Mustang.

I'm not sure I could agree more on this point. There is nothing that I truly hate, but there is nothing that I can totally get on board with due to the lack of flow (I would love to be wrong when I see it in person). The VR30TT and manual do pique my interest, but the lack of power compared to my current Z are very much derailing that interest (not that I'm in the market, but if I was...). The 10+hp per $1000 in the Z offering is an unmatched value across the board for me. I would never buy a Corvette, but I'd be cross-shopping the C8 and buying that in a heartbeat compared to the limited info about the proposed new Z34.5  Prove me wrong, Nissan.

I agree that the HP#/$ is low comparatively to C8, Camaro etc, but since the engine (hopefully) will be a variation of the VR30, you can expect much higher gains from Bolt-Ons and butt-dyno gains. I moved over to single turbo S4, similar hp to 370z, but alot more torque and with simple boltons (Intake, exhaust, BOV), both sound/performance has increased so much more then did when i did full bolt-ons plus tune on my 370z.

Just check out some q60 sport/red sport dynos with simple bolt ons and you'll see the massive tuning advantages of FI.

I can't wait for Fast Intentions to do their magic with the exhaust. Loved it on my 370z and they sound amazing on the VR Q''s currently.

Those were some smart incremental moves. The front bumper elongation itself evens out the grill situation, and I agree just carrying more accent black strikes more resemblance of the inspiration models.

Kinda wish people would stop showcasing the cars with unrealistic drop. An execution of a more realistic OEM package interpretation is more impressive imo.

Same experience as you. I went from a full bolt-on/tuned 370z to a N54 335i and never looked back. I was always against FI prior. The Z cost me way more $ in mods and was never even close to the 335i even when it just had downpipes and a OTS tune.

I'm really excited for the new Z.

that long nose just seriously gave me an emotional moment like it's perfect. thats what the Z should look like.

Basically, the shape is like an aircraft wing. The roofline with the sloping rear accelerates air over the top which reduces pressure and creates lift. At high speeds this will reduce stability... An active aero extension will redirect air upwards at the rear and disrupt the flow so it is slowed (increasing pressure above the car), at the expense of some drag – but preventing/reducing lift. The Jaguar F-Type has the same issue and this is the solution it uses.

Early mk1 Audi TTs had the same problem and they had to be recalled and fitted with a fixed duck-tail spoiler due to the car becoming highly unstable over 90mph – which was very relevant in Germany as their autobahns have no speed limits. In the next generation they brought in an active aero element on the tail of the trunk/boot.

The alternative approach for the Z Proto would either to ruin the shape with a fixed duck-tail or heavily manage the airflow under the car to accelerate the air under the car to overcome the lift (with downforce) or at least equalise it... But ground-effect aero is quite expensive to develop and manufacture... Hence why it's usually found on supercars.

Below supercars, most road cars generate some lift. The 2015+ 370Z claims to have zero lift (which is actually quite an achievement on a sports car in this sector). It solved it with a number of attributes, but significantly it had the fixed duck-tail spoiler. Hopefully, the new Z will have something similar to the Jaguar F-type instead.

I hope that helps.

Nissan is expected to price this car
right. It will be a 400hp car priced in the range of a 4 cylinder supra. Undercutting Toyota by a high margin. And with the option of manual? If Toyota doesn't offer a manual by next model year? You will see loads of supra trade in's at Nissan dealerships.

As far as the corvette goes. The c8 now, is what the z34 was... a standalone car. The corvettes competitors are about $100,000 above its weight class. So the Z35 will in no shape way or form be a corvette competitor.
The camaro and mustang drive like sports cars instead of muscle cars. Since 2013, the American market has dominated the foreign market. We haven't seen anything like this since the Buick Grand National and the Pontaic Firebird GTA.
But even still... i don't see this Z as a direct competitor to muscle. I see the Supra & Z as its own rivalry revisited. And hopefully mazda & Mitsubishi will bring their competitors into the fight.

I fell in love with the Q60 engine. And I have wet dreams about the VR30 getting a real transmission & stiffer chassis thats lacking in the Q60. Also. If the development of the Z somehow improves the Q60 drastically in its refresh? Will the Z be the car to buy? Or the Q60? Cuz the Q60 is gorgeous!! Its going to be an interesting year.
Chevy patented a high compression 5.7 pushrod 350cu v8. So we may even see another American sleeper??? Im just glad that the sports car arena is finally perking up and we are seeing new options.

https://www.motorbiscuit.com/it-does...w-nissan-400z/

On another note. People are hatinv on the Proto Z. Smh.

1. Its a proto. So there's room for improvement.
2. With all the whining for a manual car? Nissan DELIVERED!!
3. The overall shape is beautiful despite a desperate need for aesthetic and physical improvements being needed.
4. 400hp 2seat coupe in the low 40k range? Who else is doing it at that price?

This is what i hate about the American enthusiast market.
We are the least enthusiastic and least satisfied, then wonder why we dont get foreign nations best cars!!
People are ridiculous.
