Detailed interview with Hiroshi Tamura

https://www.nissanzclub.com/forum/th...hi-tamura.799/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IpUt1UFsDg

Quote:

Important takeaways:

- Modern street tires can mathematically put 150hp to the road each without breaking traction. Therefore the GTR was sold with 600hp (150x4). But to put 400hp through 2 wheels, that's exceeding the adhesion limit of 2 wheels by a good 100hp. Therefore the VDC tuning here is specifically tuned to make u feel good about it and it's programmed to make you think you did all that driving yourself, no matter how ham-fisted you are. Gone is the very intrusive power cut off but in will be the progressive, slightly playful safety leash to reel back the situation if it sees it.

- Cooling deficiencies of the existing 370z is taken into serious consideration with its front ventilation design. The massive grille is supposed to be 200% size of the old, housing all sorts of coolers inside. Even the rear differential has some localized dodats to cool the differential better than the outgoing model (although it's the same diff architecture).

- Unfortunately due to UN requirement (united nations, yes those bastards), the car cannot make all the noise they wanted it to make outside, so fake sound is gonna come through the speakers (boo)

- Z is not going to be an all out racing machine. The team behind the Z is the team behind the GTR, but the GTR has to have some GT and some Racing. The Z is more GT than racing. Even with the cooling upgrades he does not think this is the car for someone who frequents the race track. Couple slides and drift around here and there sure, but it is not designed as an all out time attack machine.

- Trunk size was again designed to swallow up 2 golf bags, (even tho the project lead Tamura said himself, "I don't golf, you know") they made it that way so the car could in theory drive 2 people to golf course with their irons. This is what's deemed sufficient for 2 adults on a weekend getaway, as American would like their supersize everything . Nissan themselves would like to make it even smaller, had it not been for this requirement.

- There is misconception that the car is a retro modern S30z, but they think anyone who owned any gen Z prior, should find this shape nostalgic and unmistakably Z.

Hey Hotprops, sober up and wipe your whiney tears. This byotch is going to start around 30k base per the Nissan Prod Development chick in the video.

Sure, just like every hot new model... give it a year. 30k is a fantastic price for that kind of performance!

Zingston, One exception, the Honda CTR. Most are still being sold above MSRP but that’s because Honda limits production. Nissan won’t, so I agree with you, it will come down, in a year.

The 370z was a great, bang for the buck, sports car until it’s later years. This could be the last and best, bang for the buck, I/C sports car produced. However, we need to keep in mind, that $30k quote, came from a model at a car show..

SeeThruHead, Good find, you’re very efficient!

Approximately 30 years ago, I used to work in the office equipment business and had to frequent these shows. At the time, “product specialist” were models, who were given a list of features, that they could recite to people, who showed interest in a product. Looks like, not much has changed in 30 years.

Just saw a 2018 CTR is going for 36k$ w/ 51k miles! :ugh2: Nuts!!!

Yeah, but the model had to have gotten clearance from Nissan to discuss MSRP. I would hope. Ha ha!

harman.khinda 01-30-2022 08:49 AM

The dealer thinks the new Z isn't comming out till end of 2022....but then again the person on the phone keeps calling it the new 370. Will we actually see it in march-April?

i will bet that the car will SELL closer to the $70k range much more THAN the $30k a few think it will sell for. i do not give s...,about sticker i am talking real$$.also it will only be sold in the us for 1 maybe 2 years at most .so 2 years x60 units per year it will be so small a dealer can and will sell it for a high number. there will be a biding war just like the last 370 zed in the usa.i got outbid 2x before i folded.lady z is going to be a joke.

If it’s in the 70k range I’ll buy a C8.

SeeThruHead 01-31-2022 11:08 PM

aren't they going for upwards of 150k now.

sportsman2003 01-31-2022 11:10 PM

A friend of mine just took delivery of a 2022 stingray 77k out the door.

SeeThruHead 01-31-2022 11:23 PM

well that's a good sign. Used on autotrader.ca shows them all at 130k (CAD) and up. I had heard that optioned ones were going for 150k. I think from a Donut video so probably slightly out of date info.

That's really reasonable for the market. I think they got a good deal.
