I agree. I'm sure if Nissan doesn't make it an option, someone will. I'll bet there will be a lot of non-oem options for front and rear bumper once this model is available.

Yeah, still a performance bargain! I'm ok with 40k.

Meh, I'm on the fence about that. I can get a used low mileage c7 Stingray 7MT for about $45k in my area right now.

IMO, $35k would be the best starting point for the new Z. Leaves $40k for higher trims and maybe $45k for Nismo. Prices as they are now, its gonna be $45k for Sports/ Performance and $50k for a Nismo. You can get a lot more car than a Z at those price points.

Used maybe... or perhaps a stang or camaro. Tbo, i have no interest in any of those. Ill take a new z for 40 or 45k any day over those. I'll admit however, the c7 is one bad looking ride!

Like what? I don't think there's a new car that competes with it for the price.

I'm more so speaking on the used market tbh. There are some phenomenal cars you can pick up used with low mileage for $45k to $50k that will beat the pants off a Z.

I agree though about NEW cars at those price points. Don't forget about dealer mark ups and what not. Wouldn't be surprised if I see base models going for $50k.

Just arrived at Yorkdale up the street from me. Might go look at it sometime this week.

It's crazy just how unchanged 90% of the car is from the 370z. Everything under the car looks unchanged aside form the exhaust. Plenty of the interior plastics are exactly the same, like the doors, everything behind the seats is exactly the same. Maybe even the inner plastic on the hatch. Basically they just updated that dash and center console and that's it.

The size of the fuel door is comical, they changed the body without changing the position of the fuel filler at all so I guess their options were make it huge or make it off center.

Zingston 02-02-2022 02:59 PM

I'm actually glad they didn't dramatically change the exterior, or interior for that matter (although I think the interior is quite a bit nicer than the current gen.). I think the current & next gen Z look great. What's got my interest the most is the new 2x turbo V6 powertrain!

Everyone over on the Z forum is talking prop rods and dual climate. Whatever.

What I just saw for the first time is that it appears to now have 2 cup holders in the center console. Is that at the expense of loosing the storage compartment? But 2 holders is nice for when your wife is with you and you both have something to drink from McDonald's.

Also, they moved the start button. Not a problem just the first time noticing it.

Someone did comment on the size of the gas fill door. I noticed this before. I guess since they didn't make any changes to the underside, they had to make the door HUGE to accommodate the new styling. Funny.

Why has no one taken any good pics of the dash, center console, and rear trunk yet? Hello? Anybody? Or have I just missed them?

I'm pretty sure the console lid slides back to reveal the cup holder, in addition to opening normally. The trunk is identical to the 370z so no real reason to take any pictures of it i guess.

Shifter console shape has changed, but simply, the hazard button is moved in between center vents and the new hole is now occupied by starter switch. To me, it's done just for the sake of change. Nothing extraordinary.

The cup holder abomination is something to be desired. (9:25 of video) I have never seen something so stupid. I'm a very positive guy and usually give someone or something the benefit of the doubt. However, all doubt has been fully removed. :icon14:

I like the dash but prefer the old analog, radial style gauges. They didn't make it a unique dash to the Z. It will be similarly shared with Juke and Murano et al. (vise steering wheel)

The "SMART" sliding back lid feature will be on 2023 model. So you can trade in your 2022 for the benefit of a cup holder. Just like the trunk release between 2017 and 2018 model year 370. :shakes head:

If you look carefully, there seems to be two variants for the new Z here. I can only assume the base and sport. The base has the 5 spoke wheel design (actually looks really good), but you can tell it doesn't have the red sport calipers that the split spoke wheel design has. Also, the base lacks the rear spoiler - very subtle. Just an observation.

It's hinged. I'm no design engineer, but that would be a funky design if it could do that. Not impossible, but I don't see it there. The whole tray would have to move with the hinge.

Just my observation.

Ok lets make it 2023 to 2024 year option. ;)

Ya, because the actual frame underneath the skin is a 370Z. Plastic surgery 101. They simply could not move the absolute location of the fuel filler opening.

There must be alot of cavities of empty space between the former 370Z frame and the new Z skin which has been pushed outward in many areas, resembling something like a double hull ship.

In other words, you kinda have something like this going on:

The video by these dorks is incomplete. They only lifted the hatch, which is for storage. The top also just slides back, which is what you would do to use the cup holder. It's not great, but at least it's there. In the C8 Vette the cup holder is obnoxiously in the way.

After seeing the videos...

Amazed how just changing the angle at which you see it changes the overall look of the car. Curious how this will positively or negatively affect real life viewing.

Love the blue interior. Unfortunately if its like last time, its gonna cost ya $5k to get it.

Like the second cup holder (not perfect but not horrible either). It being there is better than nothing.

Prefer the old analog gages. I'm just not into all the glitz and multiple colors of video screens. This is a sports car, not a rocket ship.

Prefer the old center console with storage (with aftermarket stereo in my car). They could have at least given the new screen a matte finish (ala KIA), not the distracting finger print showing high gloss glass look (ala Honda). Matte screens are far superior for viewing in bright sunlight conditions. I don't understand why so many manufacturers use the high gloss glass. Perhaps they like the bling look over practicality?

The steering wheel is hideous. Absolutely one of the ugliest I've ever seen. Assume its the current "every Nissan car" wheel. But wow its atrocious.

Anyone, like guys in this video, or magazine review guys etc, who says the interior is a major upgrade or major improvement, is just lying to themselves. Aka blowing smoke up their arses. Nissan made the dash and console into 2 video monitors, and made new (not as good looking as the old ones) center air vents. Then they added a butt ugly steering wheel. The rest is basically the same. Yep, its updated with more modern tech, but its NOT upgraded or improved. To each his own.

Oh, and no mention of the new door handles in the video? None? Come on. There should at least be discussion. I'm sure there are people who love the new look, and vice versa. Me, I like the old ones MUCH better. The new ones are okay, but would have looked much better without that 2 piece look. That outside surround piece makes it look like an added on afterthought. If it were a tight 1 piece design then it would look slick. As is it looks muddled. Again, its not bad, but I prefer the 350 and 370 handles by a lot. They were unique to any other car. Now, not so much.

Flame away.....

I think I'd rather have the new style door handles with the ugly surround color matched to the car than the bulging silver handles on my 370Z. Agree that the new handles would be so much better without the giant trim.

takemorepills 02-05-2022 09:33 PM

I'd prefer normal door handles, like my Q60 has. I don't understand why Nissan tried to keep and reinvent that odd door handle.

Oh, and about that fuel filler door. Go look at the 86 twins, they too have hideous and obnoxiously large/weird fuel doors.

The door handle is better than the previous Z cars. But the trim around the door handle is odd. Why didn't nissan get rid of the trim part.
Also the fuel cap. Wth lol. Why does it have to be that large. Holly **** its big. Maybe in the next couple of yrs they will change it and make it a lot smaller.

I'll be in my bunk!

markesc 02-09-2022 10:13 AM

Agreed...

I'm continually lost/amazed that Nissan wants to draw ATTENTION to the door handle area... Why?

I've yet to ever hear: "Wow, that car looks amazing, but those Door Handles!! DOPE!!!"

I'm guessing they did a last minute design change somewhere in the process and some compromise was made. Problem is that it's one of those once you SEE it, it just jumps out...

Overall it's "less bad" than the Silver / "Please NOTICE ME" door handles on 350z/370z
