What do you guys think the new Z35 base price will be?

I don’t post here much so I’m missing the punchline. Is this taboo or what am I missing?

analogman 11-22-2018 04:06 PM

I personally am not convinced there will necessarily be a ‘next Z’ (as much as I’d love one). Most of what I’ve seen on line are either rumors, speculation, and wishful thinking from enthusiasts, and non-commital mumbling or downplaying by Nissan, with comments like ‘it’s tough to make a business case for a new sports car’, or some gibberish about the ‘spirit of the Z living on in another form’ (probably meaning some SUV/crossover abomination).

IF there is a new Z, I imagine it would almost certainly be based on the current Infiniti Q60 coupe (the same platform sharing as before), which would most likely mean no manual transmission (a deal killer for me) as the Infiniti doesn’t have one, and pricing likely similar to the Q60.

Just my 2 cents, and certainly worth less than that.

Boozx 11-22-2018 04:26 PM

That’s some good thoughts. I hope you’re right on pricing and I agree about the Q60 stuff. If they took away the manual that would be a deal breaker for me as well. Hope they don’t.

Look at this article from September coming from Nissan employee alluding to the possibility that they are tasked with the next Z project. Seems like it’s happening...

Shoeshear 11-22-2018 04:27 PM

I'm with analogman for the most part. All the "next Z" stuff seems purely speculation w/o any real evidence behind it (not counting this recent SEMA VR30 swap).

If they make another Z, I'd guess base will be mid to high 30s at least, possibly into the 40s. Judging from the current pricing scheme, I'd say Nissan will have to rethink if they want to sell and be competitive w/ cars in the same market (camaro, mustang, genesis, etc.). I personally think the Z is a great car as is w/ significant performance, delivered in a classic package, that is decidedly Japanese.

But, the competition has gone up like crazy and 300ish hp doesn't mean anything to anyone. They're gonna need the next Z to be a beast at a reasonable price, and I don't have a whole lot of faith in that unfortunately. And to add to that, Ghosn just got fired for his shady stuff. We shall see.

TLDR: new Z will probably be pricey or dead IMO

JARblue 11-24-2018 09:35 AM

Ghosn was trying to drown the Z program. That's why the board got rid of him. Nissan will announce a $40K 500hp Z35 any day now

With Ghosn out, this is probably the path that Nissan/Renault/Mitsubishi take, no new 'halo' or Z until after 2020...

Then they will call it something inane like 'Z Cross', like they did with the Eclipse Cross..... :barf:

Uxi 11-27-2018 11:11 AM

Overthinking it as always. Keep the GTR as halo car, regardless of sales. Amortize development by using the same base engine in the Z but keep it NA (maybe turdbos for V-Spec or Nismo or whatever) in RWD 2 seater platform.

No new Z35 for a long while.

optiontrader 11-29-2018 12:20 PM

The NicoClub article was a very good read, and I can understand why a wholesale overhaul of the Z is probably not the best thing financially for Nissan. But could Nissan get the ClubSport into production as an "interim" model (aka Z34.5)? I'd reluctantly agree to the statements that our Z's are dated, but I'd love to transition to that direct injected VR30DDTT - it's a wonderful mill. But with a manual - OMG.

I know... keep wishing...

Yep If at all. They pulled the plug once and and more than one car model with decades of produciton have gone the way of the Dodo.

" a new Z is clearly long overdue.According to our sources within Nissan, there’s a small problem: It’s not happening."

Probably a lot of truth in that statement.

That article read too much like a young teenager jealous that other websites are making more money than them. Too much complaining and whining.

believe she is talkign about the bar running behind the seats however that is no where near in the way of the hatch area now. unlike the 350 where it was dead center and in the way lol

jchammond 12-04-2018 07:06 AM

I’m sure they’ll put together something & probably call it a 400Z ..... then the displacement won’t follow the 400(4.0l) but will be the bhp. That’s my guess/never know.
Unsure why everything is so “Top-Secret” as they will never build the Z to out perform their Flagship GTR...it takes a good bit of modding for that. :ugh2:

because 2020 is the 50th anniversary. It will look really bad if the 40th and 50th are the same car.

You'd think so, right? But then again, we're talking Nissan in the middle of the SUV / CUV craze, so who knows? :icon08:

Been watching and reading this thread for sometime. I have a 2015 Nismo tech and I love it. I know most everyone would like to see a newly designed & engineered Z, I'm curious too. It'll be a wait & see proposition but the bottom-line is that Nissan HASN'T released any official announcement concerning the Z...screw the the so-called "experts" that claim to have the insider knowledge and have poo-pooed the future of the Z. Speculation & interpretation are mind killers. So I'll leave it at that! If I was a Supra fan ....I'd be pissed! In the Jan 2019 edition of Automobile magazine they DROVE the new Supra and reports that the turbocharged 3.0L BMW in-line 6 will make between 360-380hp with a curb weight just under 3,300lbs! Oh sure...it'll have fancy electronics and gizmos to sway us, but after reading the nay-sayers on this thread complaining that the new future Z might make only 400 to 475hp, I can only wonder what the Supra guys are saying, mostly colorful metaphors. My subjective thoughts tell me that inexpensive after-market parts can bump the HP upto similar numbers. No word yet on the cost but history is replete with the Super being over-priced. Who knows, maybe the reason Nisan hasn't said anything about the future of the Z is because they're waiting for the final rendition of the Supra to hit the market to see where Toyota set the bar? We'll just have to wait & see. In the meantime I'm enjoying my Nismo and thankful for a rich rewarding sport cars. Happy trails & happy Holidays
Figtuna

Saw these on Insta today. Wouldn’t be surprised if we get something similar to these images. Hope the front end looks better.......I’m not a fan of the new Supra design and this looks busy as well. Also too much “Nissan Corporate” face.

What a boring and unimaginative rendering.

It'll be nothing like that.

Just no!
