Engine spec = slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

Really it has been said before:
Quote:

Subaru says that it will not turbocharge the engine as there is no space at the front of the engine bay for an intercooler. "Plus, we want to keep turbocharging separate. It is for models like the WRX STI," said Atake. "The same goes for four-wheel drive. We could not make the BRZ four-wheel drive even if we wanted to." He also said that supercharging had been dismissed because it would make the BRZ too heavy on fuel.

Literally turbo is all that car needs. 2.0 NA is dreadfull

Davey 04-08-2015 02:08 PM

Yep. I could even live with the interior, given that car with 300 HP.

Unfortunately I am not even sure if those motors hold up to much hard use without FI.

Coming from a Mustang the lack of power in that car was a deal-breaker for me. The Z is better in every way except handling, and even that's open for debate. Certainly has a $h*t-ton more grip than the little Scibaru...:icon17:

Looks: Z>twin
Brakes: Z>>twin
Power: Z>>>twin
Interior: Z>twin
Steering response Z=twin (both are good)
Grip: Z>>twin
Perceived quality: Z>twin
Cabin visibility: Z=twin (both suck)
Day to day usefulness: twin>Z
Price: Tough call, but IMO you get what you pay for.

Davey 04-08-2015 04:51 PM

The steering is really good on the BRZ, and the shifter placement is pretty much dead on. The pedals are just right for heel & toe, the blind spots aren't bad at all... I think, other than the Salad Shooter wheels, it's a pretty decent looking car, too. I just could not deal with the lack of power. You put some sticky tires on it and there goes about 75% of the fun.

I guess I could get a golf cart and put plastic wheels on it and drift it around everywhere, that would be fun, right? :ugh2:

Weird thing is that Nissan is being very secretly about the Z35. No news (From Nissan), No concept, no dates....nothing.

Announcing a new Z isn't exactly going to get the 2015's selling... Unless it's a turbo 4-banger competitor to the BRZ... :stirthepot::icon17:

I'll play along.....no Z is gonna cost $60K :rofl2:

My prediction for the next Z:
Entry level: Turbo 4
Mid: NA V6
High end/Nismo: TT V6

next z

that would be a nice set-up but I feel that Nissan wont do 3 options. it's too much cost for a car that isn't a major seller for them.

if anything it'll be a 4 banger and a TTV6 .....hopefully lol

i'm only interested in the next Z if it's the 3.0L TT like the engine announced for the next Q60. other than that it's gonna be too hard to not move on to another car.

I'm just basing my predictions off the numerous articles I read about the next Z being offered with "multiple" engines

@UNKNOWN_370
Tell that to Nissan who's gonna sell the 2016 Maxima with the VQ engine :icon17: and thanks man but I've been a member here since 2009 just never posted lol

Anyone know if Nissan ever showed a 370z concept prior to unveiling it at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show? Any old articles would be nice

A. it's not cost effective nor a selling point to have 3 engines. only multi-million car selling models like jetta, civic, etc... offer something like a baby engine, hybrid, performance, and diesel.

a car like the Z being a low volume seller with a bit higher price point even 2 engines is not a great strategy. when you factor in wanting to expand slightly and smash the BRZ/FRS then yes a 4 banger, Z body, nad small price will make those cars go bye byes.

B. Maxima always gets the hand-me-down engines from the sports cars before they move on to the next platform.

C. the G37 was unveiled with the 3.7 VQ that also went into the Z. so by that you can say the 3.0L TT V6 shown in the Q60 unveiling is the next engine in the Z.

Apr. 9, 2015 - Nissan announces U.S. pricing for 2016 370Z Coupe, 370Z NISMO and 370Z Roadster

Quote:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan today announced U.S. pricing for the 2016 370Z Coupe, 370Z NISMO and 370Z Roadster, which are on sale now at Nissan dealers nationwide. Once again offered in a selection of eight 370Z Coupe models, four 370Z NISMO models and five 370Z Roadster models, 2016 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (M.S.R.P.) remain unchanged from the previous model year.

The starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (M.S.R.P.) for the 370Z Coupe with manual transmission is $29,990 USD, while the 2016 370Z NISMO has a starting MSRP of $41,990 USD (manual transmission), The 2016 370Z Roadster starts at $41,820 USD.

Complete details on all 2016 370Z models are available at nissannews.com.

2016 Nissan 370Z Coupe
The 2016 Nissan 370Z once again offers extraordinary performance, design and an unmatched heritage as one of the most iconic sports cars in automotive history. It is offered in four well-equipped trim levels 370Z, Sport, Sport Tech and Touring, with no available option packages.

Enhancements for the 2016 model year include the addition of a new Deep Blue Pearl exterior color and a new available Bose® audio system incorporating Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE). The ANC system generates canceling sound to remove undesirable low frequency engine noise, while preserving invigorating sounds of engine performance, providing a more “pure” sound. The ASE enhances natural engine sounds to help bolster the driver's acceleration experience.

The 2016 370Z Coupe is equipped with a standard 332-horsepower 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL) and choice of 6-speed manual transmission with an available SynchroRev Match® synchronized downshift rev matching system or a 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices* (MSRP) for the 2016 Nissan 370Z Coupe:

370Z Coupe 6MT $29,990 USD
370Z Coupe 7AT $31,290 USD
370Z Coupe Sport 6MT $33,570 USD
370Z Coupe Sport 7AT $34,870 USD
370Z Coupe Sport Tech 6MT $37,070 USD
370Z Coupe Sport Tech 7AT $38,370 USD
370Z Coupe Touring 6MT $37,970 USD
370Z Coupe Touring 7AT $39,270 USD
Destination and Handling $825.

2016 Nissan 370Z Coupe NISMO
Significantly revised just last year with a new exterior design and redesigned RAYS aluminum-alloy wheels, the 370Z NISMO and 370Z NISMO Tech both receive a new Bose® audio system incorporating Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE).

Once again in 2016 the 370Z NISMO's GT-R-inspired functional and fully integrated aerodynamic body pieces provide an aggressive and more aerodynamic appearance, along with optimizing front and rear downforce. The standard 19-inch NISMO super-lightweight forged aluminum-alloy wheels by RAYS feature a twin-five spoke design and a charcoal gray machine-finish.

Inside, the unique NISMO-styled interior features black-and-red Recaro® leather-appointed seats with Alcantara® accents. The seats were designed with Recaro® specifically for the 370Z NISMO to provide more uniform body pressure and better all-direction holding during spirited acceleration, braking and cornering. The interior also features red seat trim and stitching with NISMO logo, an Alcantara®-appointed leather-wrapped steering wheel with red center stripe and NISMO red tachometer.

As in previous years, the 2016 370Z NISMO is powered by a potent 350-horsepower 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL). The 370Z NISMO's enhanced engine power and acceleration (versus non-NISMO 370Zs) is provided through use of an exclusive H-configured exhaust system design and muffler tuning, along with optimized ECM (Engine Control Module) calibration, to help create 18 horsepower more than a standard 370Z Coupe. Torque is rated at 276 lb-ft.

Two transmission choices are offered for the 370Z NISMO model – a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission with standard SynchroRev Match® or a refined 7-speed automatic with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM), Adaptive Shift Control and manual shift mode with paddle shifters.

The 370Z NISMO also features a refined 4-wheel independent suspension, NISMO-branded strut tower brace for enhanced body rigidity and a pair of performance dampers to help minimize road-input vibrations and help contribute to the NISMO 370Z's high levels of handling and performance feel. Large Nissan Sport Brakes and a Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD) – with a shorter final drive ratio for better acceleration feel - are also standard.

Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices* (MSRP) for the 2016 Nissan 370Z NISMO:

370Z Coupe NISMO 6MT $41,990 USD
370Z Coupe NISMO 7AT $43,290 USD
370Z Coupe NISMO Tech 6MT $45,490 USD
370Z Coupe NISMO Tech 7AT $46,790 USD
Destination and Handling $825.

2016 Nissan 370Z Roadster
For 2016, the Nissan 370Z Roadster continues with the expanded model lineup from the previous year, with a choice of three well-equipped grades: 370Z Touring Sport Roadster, 370 Touring Roadster and 370Z Roadster. The major change for 2016 is the addition of a new Deep Blue Pearl exterior color.

The 2016 Nissan 370Z Roadster again offers an unmatched balance of dynamic performance, sculptured styling, innovative technology and exceptional value – matched with the exhilaration of pure open-air motoring. The convertible top, which is designed to provide a sleek silhouette matching the 370Z Coupe's stunning styling with the top up or down, features an easy, single-action open-close operation. The 370Z Roadster's interior is completely driver-centric, with its three-layer design grouping items by how a driver sees information, operates the controls and is held in place – so drivers feel completely connected and engaged.

As in previous years, the 2016 370Z Roadster's outstanding performance starts with a 332-horsepower 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL), matched with a choice of electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM) and standard paddle shifters or a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission with available SynchroRev Match®. Responsive handling is provided by a refined 4-wheel independent suspension.

Along with the long list of standard equipment on the base 370Z Roadster, including Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, USB input and black-finished 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, the 370Z Touring Roadster adds Nissan Navigation System with 7.0-inch touch-sensitive display, Bose® Audio System, cooling and heated ventilated leather-appointed seats and RearView Monitor. The top-of-the-line 370Z Touring Sport Roadster includes Viscous Limited-Slip Differential, SynchroRev Match® (manual transmission only), 19-inch RAYS super lightweight forged aluminum-alloy wheels and Nissan Sport Brakes.

Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices* (MSRP) for the 2016 Nissan 370Z Roadster:

370Z Roadster 7AT $41,820 USD
370Z Roadster Touring 6MT $45,270 USD
370Z Roadster Touring 7AT $46,570 USD
370Z Roadster Touring Sport 6MT $48,100 USD
370Z Roadster Touring Sport 7AT $49,400 USD
Destination and Handling $825.

I was thinking about this last night and I actually don't recall seeing much about the 370Z (even the displacement was a mystery) until pretty close to the release.

I bought an HR 350Z in 2008 and I remember the Maxima was out and I remember the boomerang headlights but I do not recall having seen them on any sort of 370Z concept or anything.

I'm sure someone can go back in time and find some artist rendering that was sort of close or whatever but as they say hindsight is 20/20. The only thing I really remember seeing was that test mule that was a cut-up 350Z with the typical black and white swirly vinyl wrap stuff and some rumors about a 200 lb weight loss.

Remember these? These came out in '08. I remember an earlier one, a curtain was draped over the body of the Z, just hinting at its styling.
