I plan on getting the extended warranty towards the end of the 3/year standard warranty. Also, as an FYI I believe the motor/tranny are covered for 5 years. I'll dig up more info and post it up.

While I agree with Robert Nash's point on warranty being a margin generating beast - I still purchased it. I did the same on my Porsche 996 and it more than paid for it. Pretty much one major incident and I feel good about the money spent. Given the nature and intent of my NISMO, I expect to expose it to "harsh driving" and having this just makes me feel a bit better so like most insurance, I'm buying peace of mind vs. a hard product.
Adding: Purchased Security Plus Gold Preferred and paid $2,495 (I know, I know... profit for them but, I intend to use it!) Last edited by JohnCNewJr; 06-14-2010 at 05:09 PM. Reason: adding price paid |

Paid 899. for security gold plan 75,000 mi or 5 years for my 370z. You can barter the price of the warranty shop around at other dealers for the best price. Bought same warranty for o4 350z kept 5 years money well spent air issues whole in radiator towed in on flat bed and 3 oil leaks had to be repaired would have cost 4-5,000 out of pocket with out warranty.

from what i read, if you have MBI (mechanical breakdown insurance) which is usually part of a comprehensive insurance plan, you are already covered for most, if not all of what the extended warranty covers.

Yeah, Extended DOESN"T mean above and beyond. You already have bumper to bumper the minute you drive off the lot. Extended Warranties SHOULD be purchased right around the time your original nissan warranty is going to expire. Otherwise you may be wasting money. It doesnt take effect until the original expires anyways so if you no longer have the car due to accident, stolen, or you just trade it in you ONLY get back a pro-rated amount of the premium. Makes NO sense. IMHO..

You also can transfer it, so if you get into a jam or just feel like trading your car in or selling it to a private party, it adds some trade-in or resale value. Granted, it might be worth it just to sell it back and get that pro-rated premium, but peace of mind(the reason people buy these) carries quite a premium itself.

I paid $4100 for Gold Warranty and the maintenance program when I bought the car. I cancelled it the next week. Almost 6 months later, I am still waiting for my refund. Give me back my money!!!!!

I paid $1800 for the top line extended warranty.
I was never a fan of them till I got talked into one for my Lightning. It cost me $1400 way back in 2000 when I bought it new. After 4 years it blew a sparkplug out of the head (which turns out to be a know issue with the 5.4 liter engine), cost of repair was $3200. I then had a trace break on the dashboard and lost the backlighting, cost of repair was $900. I figured with the level of technology in the fully loaded Roadster I wanted the insurance and $1800 divided by 7X12 comes out to costing me about 22 bucks a month... Works for me.

I never buy an extended warantee anymore. You can't mod your car, race your car, do burn outs, etc... There is a super long list of things they use to void your warantee with and believe me they have in my case.
After a couple of claims that the warantee companies would not pay and they made me pay the dealer prices, I said nut to them. I can get things fixed for less through qualified ASE Mechanics or do it myself. Also remember they do not pay out on items that do not work the way you want them too. slow motors etc.. Only items that are broken. If it still works even intermittantly they won't pay. It has to be completely broken and replaced. Some find ways around that though. Now looking back at the thoundsands I've saved... I'm happy. You have to understand though; I've bought a new vehicle just about every year of my adult life. That includes, boats, motorhomes, JEEPs, Quads, etc... If something comes up I just fix it myself. Most everything I've had to fix has been under $500. Don't forget things like brakes, clutches, tires, wipers, oil changes, fluid and fluid changes are not covered. That is where I spend the most money.... Tires have been the greatest of all these evils for me. If you blow a tranny or engine it's still cheaper after 3 years to buy a one used at the junkyard. Oh, and you get a warantee with that. You don't a new motor in a car that has 36K on it imo. Rebuilt is just fine. That comes in about $2K ... BUT, you have to be able to do your own work. It's the labor that gets most people. So in closing ... For some it's still worth the cost due to the labor part of things. Last edited by Mecinoid; 10-17-2011 at 04:00 PM. |

I believe they charge/cost more after the first year, so need to weigh the few hundred difference.
I got the dealer to add it in 7/70k gold Nissan extended warranty on a 2009 used.
