You just feel the shifts change faster, the transmission feels more responsive... What else do you think it does? Only works for autos though. The transmission is more electronically involved than the manual. thats why.

Thats a small or large downside depending on who you are. I drive aggressive more than not so, my car 70% of the time understands me.
I don't like that at all. I never considered the 7AT in the first place, but knowing that would have taken it out of the running right away.

I can see that for some, because with the manual, you drive how you want with no computer prep. But at least with the Z you don't have to start all over everytime you start the car like the benz. And my gut tells me that the Z ASC is probably better than what you've experienced. Mercedes is not the best with performance nannies.

Also getting a performance tune will lean your car toward the aggressive side all the time, so ASC is less intrusive with a custom tune.

Exactly. Not resetting every time is definitely better, and I'm sure you're right that the Z ASC is much more sophisticated than my previous experiences.

I got a performance tune on my 6MT and love it I wonder if the new EcuTek software will be able to adjust the ASC on a 7AT.

I get that I have a 7AT, but someone said it adds HP?

Can't believe this thread is 19 page long. I bet OP is not even following it anymore But in case he is, enjoy your AT as it is really a good one, and there is no way I can shift faster with my manual than you can with your paddles.

However if you get a chance to own a stick, try it. That's the only way to really know if you will really like it or not. Doing just one or two learning drives with a stick, just won't do it.

I'm lucky to own both as my GTI is an auto with paddles and it's quick shifting as well. But the only time the GTI gets driven is when I need extra room in the car, other than that I prefer driving the Z because of the manual trans.

One last note, the GTI paddles move with the steering wheel. Personally I prefer the paddles stationary, like in the Z. Enjoy your 7AT guys, it's a good one

Oh... Ugh no, whoever said that is BS'ing. It will increase responsiveness that will make the car "mildly" faster, hp non-involved though.

That, I have no clue of where or how the ASC will play with the programs or not, but the more aggressive gear ratio changes will obviously put a damper on some of ASC's overall function..

I drove a 7at and 6 speed back to back. While I really like how quick the 7at shifts, I still prefer a clutch pedal.

Next time, don't buy something you're not satisfied with on test drive.

Secondly, if you do ever get another Z? Test drive more than one manual. Z's have always been known for hit or miss manuals. Research.

Most definitely more research next vehicle I get into, My automatic 4.0 vq frontier is the same feeling of torque response I would expect from the z but apparently only In the auto. Do you think Nissan vq is just more responsive in auto tranny? I've heard the same from g35/ fx35 guys.

Do you think the wiring supplied with the car to be insufficient?

Has had plenty of replies, And there is no further reason to keep this open to beat to death

Op,

Enjoy the Z and nevermind what people think.

It's yours to enjoy regardless.
