Sorry about the loss of the Z man, and luckily your wife is doing fine. Ive seen cars with damage like this and the drivers not doing so well so shes truly blessed. Definitely just look to see how her pain is in the next few days after all the adrenaline is way gone because thats when some little stuff will start to show its face (particularly neck pain). but i hope for a speedy recovery for your wife and hope things work out for you that you can end up back in a new Z and or maybe something better.

Ya, the Z held up very well and protected the wifey. Glad shes ok

Unfortuante about the Z ofcourse, hmm, if you still want that VQ sound look into a slightly used FX35 (which actually sounds more aggressive than a stock 370Z)

I traded in my 350z for the 370z after wrecking it. These cars are not so great in the rain. I was bragging about how great my brand new tires were at hugging the road and hydroplaned 10 minutes later If I get caught out in the rain now I drive like a granny lol I usually drop down to 35-40 on the interstate while other cars are going 70. You also need to be really careful with the gas pedal and just barely apply your foot to the pedal in the rain.

In my case I was on an exit ramp with a curve in the middle that had standing water. I turned the wheel probably an inch to navigate the turn and instantly starting spinning, slid up the grass and into two trees. I wasn't even speeding but the combination of the standing water, the curve and hitting the gas pedal all at the same time produced horrible results.

Since getting the 370z driving like a granny in the rain has worked and I never feel like I can go the speed limit in the rain. It always feels like the car is slipping and sliding all over the place if I get up to higher speeds. I pretty much try not to drive it when it rains now and if I do get caught out in it I slow way down.

Minumum speed on a highway is 20 miles below the speed limit. If the speed limit is 65mph or 70mph, and you want to go that slow? You should drive on the local streets.

The tires were in need of replacing. I was going to order some Contis next week. These cars are definitely sketchy in the rain. Ive been looking at Evo Xs all day. I think AWD is going to be in order after this one.

Because the tires that come with the Z stock are GARBAGE! I drive with these and they're as good in the dry in cornering and way sticker when launching. They've also brought me through hundreds of miles of ice and snow in a two day period as well as total confidence in the rain. I can't think of a single bad thing about them TBH.

It's unfortunate to see a family member's Z destroyed, and again, thank god the wife is ok. But every time I see a crash (especially the one with the VW head on) I am blown away at how well the car with a non existent crash test did.
I mean, any of these accidents could have been fatal in a LOT of other cars

Because the370Z.com assed up my post, let me try this again...

AWD won't help preven hydroplaning. Tread deph, tire width, standing water, and contaminates in the water cause hydroplaning. The Z's tires are wide and wider than the EVO's, but don't think that if you had AWD that it would have prevented an accident. In some circumstances AWD may help recovery, but an experienced driver in those conditions will really only have that kind of skill to utilize the AWD system. I posted a link below to help you out.

Hydroplaning (Aquaplaning)
