The fact that they could not give you a good answer when you asked them about it makes me even more suspicious. I'm trying to think why they needed to do an update on the Nav in the first place but I guess that's another issue. The Z would be a tempting car for some tech to want to take it for a "test drive" to the local Dunkin Donuts. I'm sure it happens more times than not and if I had a piece of crap car, I wouldn't care. But not my Z. I would send the Service Mgr an email or call them to let that know that you have a concern over this and let them explain to your satisfaction why they needed to drive the car for 4 miles. By the way, since my issue with a dealership regarding my seat issue, I have not returned there and have found another Nissan Dealership that I trust. I am paying them, they need to gain my trust so that I return. If that doesn't happen, there are plenty of other reputable shops and Dealerships around that would love to have my money.
The person you talk to isn't necessarily the tech who did the work. There may have been a completely valid reason for the test drive and there may have been a completely valid reason for the service manager not to know (or care) as it could be standard practice at that dealership.

My car was in for an engine swap. I got it back with 30 miles more on it. Who cares. The car was fine. Take receipt of the vehicle and enjoy it.
