Basically no way is this going to be a car you push without at least 1500-2000 in mods. Already paying 35-40k for the car. It's a niche car, not a smart buy for most people.

I love the car though don't get me wrong, looks are very very important and not many can top the 370z looks.
If it's not hitting limp mode. It's doing it's job. I had 1 issue with engine oil hitting 'possible' limp mode and that was before I knew to even watch out for it. I had an RX-8 before this car and was holding the revs a little too long between shifts. With Normal driving and proper shifting it's a non issue for 95%-99% of street driving. I've driven a 400 mile trip in 95-100 degree weather with the oil temps sitting around 220-230 degrees. The point everyone is trying to defend is that the Z has issues just like every car. The problem is that this doesn't have stuff like facts and figures to actually back up the claim. They might even base it on percentage, in which case the low volume altogether is going to skew the results. The Z, being a sports car, also tends to be driven a bit more aggressively compared to something a bit more utilatarian. We can't really talk about it, but some people street race these cars or do stupid stuff like neutral drops on the AT. We all know the Z isn't perfect, but articles like this don't help buyers, they misinform without proper research. Most people are stupid when it comes to cars and will believe all this crap without doing their own research either.

Last point from me. jmo those that say this car is not quick or fast
for a six banger are just plain ignorant. As for as handling
if a vette is a 10 than the 370 is an 71/2. And 20 grand less

I don't think we're simply biased in thinking that some journalists are over the top in their criticism of the Z. For a while the Inside Line blog had entry after entry on how their long-term Z's interior was insufferably loud. It actually made me think twice about buying the car (prior to a test drive, mind you).

Imagine my surprise in finding that the Z is actually fairly refined for a dedicated performance machine. I even found conflicting reviews where this refinement was pointed out as a positive (such as in the comparison test against the Cayman in the now-defunct online Motive Mag - look up "baby GT-R vs. baby 911" if you want to read a glowing review of the 370). Not to mention performance cars with significantly (and measurably) louder interiors often get a pass as that's just expected of such a machine.

There are quite a few positive Z reviews out there (Car & Driver's first test of the 370Z in the fall of 2008 comes to mind) if you look for them, though. This just seems to be a car that will obviously turn off folks expecting/preferring a hushed, serene and otherwise sterile ride afforded by a sedan or luxury GT coupe (a la the original Lexus SC).

look how deciving this is compare the actual reviews and overal scores:

Nissan 370Z expert car review verdict - BBC Top Gear

Mitsubishi Evo X expert car review verdict - BBC Top Gear

Maybe I should have done more research or whatever when deciding to go with a Z, but... A lot of stuff those articles say I really don't care much about. Every car will have problems. *shrug*

When I went shopping for a car I test drove a bunch.. went to a Nissan dealer and tried a Z fully expecting not to like it.

Now I'm buying one.

Guys and Gals! Don't put too much credence here. It is an editorial from msn who did not even have the ballz to put a credible journalist. Who wrote it? A freelance contributor!!!!

Matthew de Paula wanted to be an automotive journalist ever since reading his first car magazine in grade school. After a brief stint writing about finance, he helped launch ForbesAutos.com and became the site’s editor in 2006. Matthew now freelances for various outlets.

Matthew -- I'll race you with my stock Z and I'm sure my Z bro's in this forum would not hesitate to take my spot just to get a pc of you. But were not that brutal. How about a simple race AND bench presses.

Writing about cars is different if you actually had the background in automotive technology or actually driving cars and testing them for a living. Common MSN, get your shyts together and get real with your articles instead of putting some guy to fill your web pages.
ForbesAutos.com no longer exist FOR A REASON!!!! Bad Editorials, Contributors, and Journalists.

I think if you are taking your "which car to buy" advice from MSN, something is wrong, though.
Unless it is a major magazine or publication. These morons that write for the online blogs and other "auto-news" just copy what they read they don't do any tests and these DB's don't know a thing about cars, and they are failed writers. They get paid to do as little as possible when coming up with intelligent commentary about automobiles. I trust Motor Trend, Top Gear, and a few major mags. Yet most are paid extra today to give good write ups for crappy cars and are now biased.

He doesn't sound very reliable at all. He sounds like a journalist playing the part of a car expert. He's the TMZ of car reviews.

How hot is the temp you are out driving in? I ask because I am driving around 105 degree weather plenty often and I run those temps in my non oil-coolered 2009. You shouldn't be seeing those numbers so if you are, I would suggest having it looked at because that is just weird.

What kind of driving are you doing? This summer wwhen Chicago had 105/110 days I Would drive for an hour mixed highway and off highway and would never see the temps past 225 on my 2010. The only Time it goes to 240/250 is when doing prolonged spirited runs holding Rpm past 5k

It's been well established that there is a wide variance in the operating temps for different z's. I've seen some run hot, and some run cool...likely due to natural variation within tolerances
