Why are reviewers so hard on the z?

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/10-used-cars-to-avoid#9

I'm not sure the z belongs here, one idiot crashes a nismo and we become universally hated. Since when does high oil temps translate to bad used buy due to reliability?:banghead:

There are a lot of other cars I Would put on this list before the z.

We have suspension problems? :icon14:

I'll give them the transmission just because I don't like how it feels, but since when did all the cars start having engine trouble? And how many people have had brake failure going to work?

I feel like they didn't do any research and are straight up misleading which leads me to wonder about the other 9 cars on that list... :shakes head:

The car has its flaws, it's going on three-four years old, and Nissan more aggressively markets its other vehicles.

The car had oil issues, brake cooling issues, still has the fuel starve issue.

But it is a much more fun car than reviewers would lead you to believe, and so far, it has been 100% reliable for me.

Davey 09-04-2012 12:05 PM

Guys, it's no big deal, it's just that the engine and transmission, the drive system, the suspension and the brakes are all prone to failure.

I'm so glad I judge cars by driving them rather than reading whatever garbage someone typed and believing it, or I'd have never had the chance to enjoy a great car like the Z.

I'm with You guys, I just hope That if We decide to sell our z , articles like these Don't ruin resale value.

Per the article, it is about "when the warranty lapses and mechanical issues arise, all the prestige and performance mean nothing as the car languishes in the shop, racking up costly repair bills. That's exactly what the vehicles on this list will do." which has nothing what so ever to do with track performance.

Not saying that the car is perfect or free of issues (we can all rattle them off faster than our parents birthday's probably), but saying the 370z introduces "a host of problems that didn't exist before, particularly related to the engine and transmission. The drive system, suspension and brakes are also failure-prone." is totally false and an outright lie.

Who gets brake fade driving to work? How many have had suspension failures? What are these engine problems? If they are equating tracking to daily driving, then this is mostly just a load bunk. If not, I would like to see where they got their numbers because all these problems are news to me as it relates to driving to and from work.

This! I just drove my Z 800 miles through Northern AZ having a blast on all those winding roads! My favorite was HWY 89A going to and past Jerome! I had no oil issues or brake failure issures. No fuel starvation............ If I was racing the car maybe I would see these issues, I am not, just having fun!

Only refers to 09-10 models, which is the first years of the redesign. Most, if not all, first new model year cars will have their issues and manufacturers will work them out over time.

This is why I got a 2012 model. Oil cooler, heated mirrors, etc.

I have heated mirrors on my 2010...

Oil cooler was only addition to 2012.

i say.......... the best review anyone can possbily do is test drive and see for yourself.
people can say whatever. but if you want a car despite certain flaws then GET IT!, never let others influence your decision (aka peer pressure lol)

for me, i didnt care what reviews exc said....... i wanted it. i drove it. i LOVED it. i GOT it!. end of story

They are probably referring to oil consumption when they talk engine failures.

The transmission has been a major issue for Nissan for quite a while.

Steering lock issues certainly don't help the reliability ratings either.

I think if you are taking your "which car to buy" advice from MSN, something is wrong, though.

I have no idea what you're talking about. i'm only on my second one :icon17:

but for real... what suspension problems have these cars ever had....

ShinyBlueZ 09-04-2012 02:03 PM

I had to take a gigantic poo on the way home today

did the 0-60 in about 4.7 seconds, no transmission issue
redlined every single gear, no oil starvation/overheating
drifted around 3 corners at about 1.00 g, no LSD problem
reversed into my garage at about 35mph, no visibility issues
on the way running into my house a hot chick walking her dog past my house said "wow.. really nice car."

within 6 mins every aspect of the perfect sports car was tested. my huge poo made way for a legitimate 'real world' test of our Z's.. and mine passed with flying colours.

so screw all the haters. Z-fanboy errrrrrday. (gangsta)
