People always/usually expect new generation has to be bigger displacement, more horses, better here and more there.
No one mention/think about the price... How much a V8 or 400hp Fairlady should price at?? 30K? Is it possible? Surely, when the overall quality has to be lowered to compensate the cost. 40K+?? General public might consider other brands, especially European brands. Some say a FI Fairlady, some say a V8, some say with a turbo option..... How much money do you want Nissan to spend on the development of the next Z? Or... be realistic, how much do you think Nissan will spend on the development of the next Z??? Some say cross-platform... alright, it could work, and how much are you willing to pay for a V8 Fairlady? Or... be realistic, how much do you think the general public will spend on a Japanese car?? Yes, horsepower is important for a sports car, but other factors are also as same important in the formula of strong sales. Look at Toyota Supra, very good sports car, strong horsepower, it make huge noise when it first came out... turbo, lots of horsepower blah blah blah... and Toyota withdrawn it from the North American market after years of its weak sales... because of its hefty price tag on a Japanese car.... Imagine, the next Z got those upgrades such as horsepower, FI options... what will the price tag look like?? Bad timing on the introduction of 370z, surely. And currently the economy is not any better than couple years ago.... do you think it's a good time to introduce a new but more expensive Z?? my CAD$0.02 ![]() |

I would be hugely disappointed if they stopped making the GT-R. That would be an epic fail on Nissan's part. I think it will get approved eventually, but they might take like 2-3 yrs off to help build hype and stuff.

I think Nissan needs to look at the BMW 335. I have the 3.0L TT N54 engine and that thing is fast. With a simple <$1000 module you can easily bring it up to 400 hp at the crank.
My biggest complaint with the Z is torque. While it gets up to speed pretty quick, there is not the 'oh **** this is quick' feeling that I get in an all wheel drive 4 door sedan. The next Z should have a 3.X litre engine with some sort of twin (or twin scroll) turbo that can reliably produce 400hp and 350ish torque at a low boost. And then with a modest ($$) amount of tuning people can increase the boost and get over 400hp at the wheels. This would really help the Z compete with some other cars (mustang, M3, C63) while not stealing sales from the GTR. Either way I think Nissan would be happy with sales being stolen from the GTR if they sell 5 Zs for every 1 GTR they do not sell. I also do not like the idea of different engines at different trim levels. I feel like it waters down the experience as the car should be built and sold how it is intended to drive.
