I might roll down my windows today since it's been 5 days since the windows were tinted...but it's supposed to be 90 degrees and the humidity is killer.

Thanks Kenchan... I love it. In fact, this is part of my "what did you do with your Z today" story.... I gave a buddy of mine a ride in my Z today, post-install of my Invidia CBE. He drives a 2011 Subaru STi btw (sweet car too). Anyways, he loved the looks/sound of the exhaust... called it just a plain great sounding exhaust...not too loud, not obnoxious, not too deep, not tinny... Just Perfect.

So perfect in fact, that when we got back to the office, we looked up Invidia's for his STi, and I hooked him up with the same sponsor from our forum, and he's ordering the Invidia Q300 exhaust for his STi!!!!! Damn, I should have been in sales. Have you guys heard the Invidia on an STi??? Damn. It sounds good. I should have been in sales. :icon14:

I know, right?!?!!?!?! I told him I think it sounded better on his STi than my Z :shakes head:

All I gotta say is, Invidia makes some great stuff. Both engineering-wise (sound, looks, and performance gain), and fabrication (welds, alignment, etc). AND the best part, cost is one of if not the lowest amongst quality CBE's out there.

And thanks to this forum (you guys), I learned all about the reviews of each, and also of the sponsor who I got it from.... this forum ROCKS.

What was your oil consumption, exactly? Quarts per 1,000 miles?

Holy crap. Sorry to hear. I thought it was a joke, honest. So what happened? I thought oil consumption issues were with G's and Z's from 2005-2008ish or so. It's still prevalent in our new 2010's?

I changed my oil already.... at 500 miles on the odo, total. Oil was fine. Now you have me worried. I should check my level when I get home tonight. :icon14:

kenchan 04-21-2011 02:53 PM

FromG2Z- i'll take a listen when i get home~! :)

mine burns oil when i fill to the top dot on the dipstick. this was the same way on my G35C in the beginning. after the burn off (say after an oil change to top dot), i kept the oil around the 3/4 mark on the dipstick as anything more kept burning off for some reason. i could smell burnt oil too in my garage after a nice drive.

after 10k miles or so, no issue... i know cause each oil change i would fill to the top dot, no smell, oil at near top dot on dipstick every other week or so i checked. :)

i think it may have been just my car...but always stay up on your oil levels...the VQ has a small history of oil consumption...

m4a1mustang 04-21-2011 02:57 PM

My Z burned oil for around 8-10k miles (though less than 1 qt per 3,000 miles) and then it stopped. The VQs can be hit or miss... some will burn a little for a while, some will burn none, and then a few will drink the stuff up. You just need to monitor it regularly to make sure if it is burning any oil you aren't letting the oil levels get too low. And if it burns a lot you need to have it documented by your dealer.

Oh, you must be talking about the door sills..ya, never really touch that.

I'm talking about the skid pad on the floor mat, basically where you would heel/toe when shifting. I armor all'd that, and ya, bad idea lol

kenchan 04-21-2011 03:23 PM

wow, 4qt per 1K miles you'll never need to do an oil change again... just keep pouring more. :D ;)

Yeah check it out (the vids).... pretty sweet. I almost got the STi, but wifey said no way jose because she thinks the scoop is "ugly". I'm like...whaaaaaaaat? But yeah, I mean, of course I still think the Z is wayyyyyyy sexier, esp in coupe guise.

Now about oil consumption really quick.... Do you guys think it has anything to with the way the engine was broken in for the first 1100 miles? I have my rpm shift light set at 4k rpm, per the manual says, but I have a few times rev'd it to 5k not on purpose, but because I was getting into it... :( I hope that's still ok??!?!?!?

ahhhhhhh on the floor mat.... ok, I get it now ;) Yea, bad idea!

kenchan 04-21-2011 03:57 PM

i doubt it has anything to do with the break-in unless you're pounding on the gas to redline frequenty. a light rpm past 4K is nothing compared to stomping on your gas in the wrong higher gear under 4K rpm. :D

i think you're fine. just keep an eye on the dip stick every other week or so. i only check it like twice a month.

That looks good, man. I definitely think raising it a hair in the back would make it perfect.

Ken and his food. :icon17:

:icon18:

agreed! a tad bit of rake would evenly distribute the weight when you punch the gas or accelerate quickly. :) well, i guess it also depends on your spring and damp setting, but something to think about if your car tends to squat too much. :)

citrejo 04-22-2011 01:58 AM

Took it to work

BLAZZIN 04-22-2011 03:01 AM

went on a little hill country run, gotta say the car showed its true potential!!! now waitin on some springs & sway bars

98intrigue 04-22-2011 10:44 AM

I'm getting nervous that I ordered my clutch and it's been 3 weeks and still have t even received a shipping status. Add to the fact that there are complaints of failure of the Fidanza flywheel that I have sitting in my garage...I'm about to money up for an OS Giken.

Dang. 3 weeks is a long time. BTW: What are you hearing about the Fidanza? I have a Fidanza in my 240z and it is awesome. I am considering this as one of my options for flywheel replacement. I have heard good stuff about the Jim Wolf flywheel, too.

springs are good, save your money on the sways to put towards an LSD. IMO that's the one major lacking part on non sports! Im about to drop down on my Quaife LSD and im trying to decide on brakes! Only thing my NON sport will be missing now is Syncro rev :p

Well, I finally got an email that my clutch shipped on 4/20. It will be here Tuesday. RCZ posted that the heads of the bolts in the flywheel break off. He said there have been 3 or 4 other reports of the same thing. I had this exact same setup on my G35 and it was great....hoping I'll have the same luck with the Z.
