Hardwire was easy enough, fabbin' the button and securing the aux port to the shifter ring insert took some time. Ended up using epoxy on the aux after an existing bracket modification was proving not to be strong enough for constant plugging and unplugging. It wont be going anywhere now, but its placement is much more practical now :D.

A few quick pics (I'll be adding some more to the port relocate diy eventually):

^ nice! But wouldn't that block access to the temp controls? Either way nice clean install!

pL4tiNumfi5t 08-07-2011 05:07 PM

Thanks
I guess that would depend on the size of the charger. The topper isn't really in the way.

I took my time and tried to make it as clean as possible.

Nice Ken... although, beading is not necessarily a good thing ;) Actually, sheeting is much better. You should try Optimum opticoat sometime... it's sheets uber fast. Beading will remain on the surface after rain, attracting dirt/etc... then drying up (esp in sun), then mineral deposits (if tap water) and dirt will leave an etch in the paint... ala magnifying glass.

btw, the beading you see can also be effects of the existing wax or sealant (which I am sure you have on there at some point in the past, right?). The speedshine, though it has some wax/sealant properties also extends the life of the existing LSP.

Actually for cars that get QD'ed often you want beading as lubricity does not run off and maintains to be between the towel and surface. For dd's that are not QDed sheeting is preferred to prevent water stains...so I use prima Hydro on my G.

I just got the oil pressure sensor mounted as seen in my journal. I ran the wiring for the power to the gauges but haven't made the connections yet. I still have to run the wiring to the sensors also. Just a lot of little things. See what I get done tomorrow. Just wish now I didn't have a Dr. appt.

98intrigue 08-07-2011 08:41 PM

I drove the Z to my parents for dinner. The car runs ok under partial throttle to about 5k rpms...so I get to use maybe 350whp? I can't wait to get the car 100%...it's only been about 4 months :/

Haha, thanks all.
:icon17: I didn't even think of that. I'll just have to be extra careful, maybe rubber o-ring the topper as extra precaution, hmm.

FromG2Z 08-08-2011 12:44 AM

Well, I layered Zena with a 2nd coat of SN. The paint keeps getting wetter with every layer. I then kenchaned her to work on Sunday for some photos. I QD'd right after, and will add a 3rd layer of SN tomorrow. I also started playing with HDR's... I must say, this is fun. I do need a mini tripod though.

I will upload more pics in the photography thread and the Pearl White thread... The last photo below is the only HDR.

hmm, what did i do with my Z today....took her out for her first nice long cruise on the I-5 from orange county down to san diego...still cant believe a car with this much get up and go can get such good gas mileage. Was getting a solid 30mpg with the cruise set to 65 :)

Ken that looks good... yeah I was squatting down with my Nikon yesterday too... in the work parking lot. People who saw me were probably... WTF is this guy doing... lol.

But yeah, I love your Z's stance.

Thanks Alchemy... I actually got inspired by seeing your shots from the other day.... Here's another HDR... I couldn't resist.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../REALHDR2B.jpg

Alchemy 08-08-2011 09:35 AM

I really wanna start playin w HDR. How exactally is it done?? What program do you use to process it?? Do you need a HDR specific program or is it just about layering?? I like the third shot a page back G2Z.

FromG2Z 08-08-2011 09:43 AM

^ Yeah that one rear quarter shot in the previous page was my fave too. What's funny is that was my first HDR shot ever. I really think it's in the software that does it. I tried about 5 diff't ones. I ended up with EASYHDR versus Photomatix. I didn't like the ghosting effects/repair quality of photomatix. Picturenaut was nice and FREE, but only saved TIFF :(

Essentially, all you do is take at least 3 shots at -1, 0, and 1 EV... in other words, you need one shot under exposed, one just right, then one over exposed. You can add more than 3, but the software program will blend it all in. VOILA. Technology is amazing. :D After that, you can tinker some more and fix stuff here and there, but for the most part, the software does every thing for ya....

No Z action for me today.... she's at home because of rain. I wish I could have driven her today though :(

Fire 08-08-2011 10:23 AM

Nice shot Ken:tiphat: Had to remove my Z from the for sale area. The finance company messed up on the payoff. I would have to get an additional $10,000 for the car and I haven't had any interest at my original price. Not that it is a bad thing LOL. Just have to wait longer to start my next project. I ordered my key fob operated smart top today. Real men go topless :ugh2:

Juruki 08-08-2011 10:24 AM

plasti dipped my front Nissan burger and got some overspray on my GF's dog

FromG2Z 08-08-2011 10:32 AM

Fire - I did not know you are selling your Z. Serious? Why? I thought you loved your car...

Juruki - nice. That gives the hood a nice clean look.

Fire 08-08-2011 10:34 AM

LOL Juruki your not supposed to plasti dip the dog while it is still alive. Didn't you read the directions?

Fire 08-08-2011 10:36 AM

Yes From I love my car. Was just seeing if the time was right to go on to the next project. I had a bad fiscal start to my year. Never behind on my payments but very stretched. I'm doing good now, I bought a new computer monitor today my old one was fried.

Fire 08-08-2011 10:42 AM

This is what happened. I got my tax return and ordered my mods. After they came the hot water tank failed ($1600) the price of my fuel oil bill went to $1000 a month for 2 months. So I had about $5000 going out in about 3 weeks. :shakes head: As I said I'm doing good now, finally have my savings account above two weeks pay with all bills payed.

:iagree: Juruki- that looks great!

Fire- huh, yah, i didnt know you were selling your car either. sorry to hear about about the mishap on the home appliance. :( good to hear your finances are back and stable. :)

G2Z- lol at squatting to take the shot. i like going to these office sites on the weekends cause there only a few people there and no cars in the background to worry about. there's this one lot ive been eyeing but there's this one SUV that seems to be parked there forever. :ugh2: maybe i should just call a tow truck and have it removed. :stirthepot: :icon17:

Yeah Fire, sorry to hear about the predicaments. But I am happy you are back in order. Would hate to see you part with your Z... first RCZ, then RedZed, now you :(

Ken, same thing I do!!! I went to the parking lot, found a great spot, FORGOT my SD card, had to go get it, got back there, and someone was parked at the ideal spot :shakes head: so I had to settle for my next spot.

CrownR426 08-08-2011 01:03 PM

Went to a mitsubishi dealer to get trade quotes.
Gonna let her go real soon guys, going to either a IX or X.

FromG2Z 08-08-2011 01:15 PM

^ nooooooo :( What's with everyone letting her go? Maybe I am missing something. I should probably start look at what I can get/sell her for. Sssssh.... if I talk too loud, Zena will hear me.

Seriously though, congrats Crown. You can't go wrong with an Evo. Those things are wicked. Esp around a track. Plus a back seat! Although, be careful of the bargain bin interior (my biggest gripe).

Dzel 08-08-2011 01:16 PM

Washed her up after the Fiance abused her all weekend long

dohh! :D hahaha, that'll piss me off BIG TIME. :ugh2:

i downloaded an app into my droidx called PS Express..basically photoshop super light version. lol will see how it goes for my droid picts. wish it had 'sharpen' mode though. hummm... :(

also have a bubble level app so i guess i will use this to ensure my camera is horizontal when using the mini tripod. lol  although i will eventually buy a shotshoe level.

Yeah we had a christian rock concert called Rock the Dessert that she volunteered at. It was litterally in the dessert she drove my car through sand and crap. During said event the bands would ask the crowd to kick the dirt up to create a dust storm. I was pissed my car hasn't even seen rain but she's already taken it through dirt roads and mud puddles !!!:shakes head:
