Thanks. I feel you on decal - got lazy, especially after trying to remove my toasted convertible top deck lid liner. Got an easy suggestion for removal?

abm89 08-01-2021 12:00 AM

You'll probably have to use a combination of a heat gun and some patience. I'm by no means an expert but that's what i can think of.

Use a 3M eraser wheel to take the decal off.

Leave it in the sun on a hot summer day. Texas sun makes it easy almost any day, but in Massachusetts you might have to wait for the right day. If you use a heat gun just make sure you use it on low heat and be extremely careful not to overheat the paint and clear coat.

That 3M Eraser Wheel is extremely dangerous around paint in the hands of the inexperienced. Better to use a heat gun on low first. I wouldn't use the eraser wheel except as a last resort and keep the RPMs low and slow.

Dropped my Z off at the dealer for the first time in 4 years

Their Master Tech is checking out the airbag systems, fob antennas, and A/C system for me. He's already figured out everything lol

A/C was at about half charge. And the heater hoses near the rear RH side of the engine look :ugh:

The plastic coupler is either already broken or extremely likely to break when I pull it out. The Master Tech told me the same thing happened in his G37S and recommended a metal coupler with bleeder port like this: https://conceptzperformance.com/czp-...t Bleeder Port

Airbag system is good to go and the fobs are all working again. Safelite should be covering new B-pillars as well although I'm not sure if they'll authorize the dealer to give them to me or source it themselves.

The tech also verified that I had the Stebel horn connected properly but there appears to be a problem with the horn itself. I'm going to troubleshoot and buy a new one if necessary.

You have any experience with removing baked-on, cracked Roadster top liners? Most posts I’ve seen say the same: mild heat and scraping. I tried but it was very messy and slow. I have the adhesive wheel on order. FYI I am tentatively planning to wrap it next year, so may have them take care of it.

This is to be expected. Patience is the name of the game. The slower you go the better chance you won't mess anything up. If the adhesive is being stubborn, there is no magic answer for quick removal.

I have a K&N intake, FI Resonated HFC and FI exhaust w/ 18" resonators. All mods were done by a previous owner but I couldn't find a tune cable anywhere so I figured I'd get a tune, mainly for throttle response tweaks and to make sure everything is running decently efficiently.

The car has almost 80k miles and is in great shape and I want to keep it that way! I don't have any major plans to upgrade anything else at the moment since it's my daily driver I'm keeping stock suspension but, if/when things break I'll be upgrading them.

abm89 08-05-2021 04:11 PM

I would ditch that intake if they are short tubes. you would be better off with the stock boxes.

If they're short tubes, ditch 'em. I have a set of low mileage Z1 CAI's for sale. PM if interested.

I have the Z1's installed. No cutting required, similar gains to the Stillen Gen3. Overall, a great set.

My main concern with the long tube headers is the rain/wet as I daily drive my car. How much of an risk/issue is this?

I have the Stillen G3's. I've driven it in flat out down pours with no issues. with the filters up behind the bumper. They're out of the way. But if you use one of those air scoops. That's a different story.

Same here, no issues with the long tube CAI

being all NA, i'm similar, have Motordyne Shockwave exhaust with ART pipes and long tube Stillen CAI..... these #'s are after the Ecutek tune

getting the tune after the upgrades was a major difference, well worth it IMO in terms of throttle response in the mid range...

also, having launch control is awesome!

..not that it matters for a tune but do have a fortune-auto coil over suspension installed and did the Z1 moto/trans mounts & sub frame/solid diff bushings

zeeder 08-06-2021 05:37 PM

Thanks guys! I ended up buying BettyZ’s Z1 long tube intakes. It’ll delay the tune but it’ll give me a chance to see if I feel up to the task of working on the car myself!

Mish*tmoto thermostatic plate. Typical Mish*tmoto quality control. Their supplied M20 fittings wiggle in the threads like a whore in heat. And that 1/4" port looks real useable.

Only reason I took a chance on their chitty products was I wanted a better way to run the oil feed line than the frankenfitting off the oil pressure sensor port.

Pot/kettle. Maybe you need to find a mechanic that knows how to install it :tiphat:

Ok, even though everyone told me Tomei without cats would be stupid loud, I was not ready, I thought resonated TPs would help.

No…anything above 3.5k is hearing damage, holy…

I really tried to give Tomei a shot, and still think with stock cats is bearable. Currently looking at new exhausts now…

My buddy put on an HKS yesterday and man those sound sweet.

My opinion, dual exhausts with resonators (HKS, Motordyne, ARK and all of the eBay/Amazon replicas) gave the best tone to the Z. A more "mature" sound than the single exits, especially titanium made.

I don’t disagree with that.

If it was just the rasp, I think switching to art pipes and getting the resonated y pipe would help, but the overall volume is too much.

You can’t beat that deep tone of a good true dual. Good thing is, Tomei will sell like hot cakes on the used market…

G37’s AGM was deteriorating fast. I haven’t been plugging it in for the past couple of years. The repeating short trips took a toll. Replaced with a cheap Interstate, $90 from Costco.

Wife’s Z OEM battery was getting weak. Swapped in the AGM from my Z (hardly used).

Talking to Phunk to join the Antigravity train. Skipping the pkg deal tho as I already have a lithium compatible charger.

It's funny, I dropped my car off at a detailer this morning and then later had a Facebook Memory of when I spent 7-ish (over two days) hours 8 years ago (8-10-2013) on my original 2013 Z claying and using all of the Zaino products on it...lol. This time will be a lot easier on the body but a little harder on the wallet. I'll be sure to take some pictures after I pick it up before it gets dirty again!

Crazy…so I ordered the HKS Hi Power for $1232 shipped (I think that’s a good deal) Monday morning and I’m getting it today…fastest shipping ever. Coming from Nevada to Washington State, but still. I’m getting tuned tomorrow so perfect timing. Super excited though, I’ve had to baby the Z the last few days because of how loud it is.

RIP Tomei lol

I run an HKS on mine.I love it.Mellow at low RPM but wakes up nicely at higher RPM.:tup:Fitment is excellent too.

There's a guy on Facebook selling a basically brand new Hi Power for $900.00. I'm trying to buy the muffler sections off him since mine are all scratched up from the previous owner of my car having it too low.

I love my HKS too. Wish it were a true 2.50" though. I just had my exhaust tips powder coated gloss black

I saw that but he’s kinda far, so i figured shipping and hassle would bring it kinda close.

Hope you can get it too.

That's true, shipping cost to you would be pretty expensive.

I paid $120.00 but I know they can be done cheaper. These guys were close to me so I went with them.

Thought about getting new tires for my Z today... but ended up buying a bunch of goodies for my Jeep. :icon14:
