EPA Ban Mods - Not sure if this is a big deal or not

Although I have no love for this epa ruling/clarification. I'm going to try and put forth th glass half full interpretation. 1. Only ecu, emissions, and engine mods are banned.

Although I have no love for this epa ruling/clarification. I'm going to try and put forth th glass half full interpretation.

1. Only ecu, emissions, and engine mods are banned. This is not new, it's always been illegal to run long tubes on the street for example.

2. Carb approval still exists, so if a manufacturer gets carb for a part, ex stillen sc or a cai it is fine.

3. Cbe will be unaffected, anything downstream of emissions equipment, secondary o2 sensor and cats will be fine. Laws regulating exhausts are for decibel levels.

4. Suspension, wheels, tires, diffs, cooling etc mods are fine.

5. Be thankful we live in the golden age of internal combustion development. There are so many off the showroom floor track ready beasts that didn't exist even 5 years ago.

6. Going fast had always been correlated with how fat your wallet is, now that money goes to the dealership vs the aftermarket.

7. Long term we will see carb approved tt kits etc from a smaller group of aftermarket companies.

8. Driving around on the street with no emissions equipment is and since 1970 has always been illegal and hurts our environment if this ruling gets us long term cleaner performance parts it's a win win.

They should however have exempted modded street car to race car conversions provided they are track only cars, that part goes too far, the also should have left the 25 or 30 year rule in effect where classics are exempt as well.

Other than that, I think it's a good rule.

(Dons flame suit).

1.3 percent change in air quality estimated by the epa (so over estimated) by 2026 if this goes into effect. yeah if we were 10 or 20 percent of total air pollution then yeah it would make sense but cow **** is bigger part of greenhouse gas emissions than every racer car ever built.

this isnt air quality its the epa flexing its muscles. Automotive enthusiasts account for less than 3% of the population, thats why it is easy to hit us with legislation. And while a vehicle without cats may produce 100 times more polution there are 30 times less of them and they are actually driven half as much at best. hell full drag cars retire with like 50-100miles on them

You're right about the bovine methane emissions. We should enjoy our steaks while we still can legally (not kidding) but that's another discussion altogether.

Regardless of the fact there are far far fewer catless cars driving around, no one should be driving a vehicle (classics exempted) on public roads without emissions equipment. To me that is an indefensible position. Every little bit helps as far as clean air goes. My issue I take is that anyone amateur or pro who wants to convert a road car into a track only car that doesn't drive on public roads should be able to do what they want.

We should be honest here about aftermarket manufacturers selling off road parts with a wink and a smirk for the last few decades knowing that the vast majority of those parts sold end up on the street.

Doubt this will happen as the US Supreme Court has stopped the EPA on the Coal issue. The issue is there basing everything there on a extreme interpretation of the Clean Air Act of 1970 which was revised in 1990. The Act says nothing about Co2.

The moron's can't get anything passed to support there insanity so they have been twisting the framework of existing laws to do what there doing until the Supreme Court put a halt to it this year.

Anyhow keep moding not in any danger of disappearing anytime soon. Also since the EPA has been running amok for 8 years without any additional laws passed expect them to get neutered in 2016 if GOP gets in. If HRC does being that she has not driven a car since like 1996 look forward to riding the bus as the highlight of your driving future.

and over the weekend the balance of the supreme court shifted with the death of Scalia, so don't count on them either.

Always rather be safe than sorry. Freedom will be continued to be stripped if everyone just lets their guard down. In a time of somewhat peace, seems a lot of people don't have any other **** to do, besides fighting amongst themselves

More importantly than signing a petition that will be ignored by a dictatorial ideologue, register to vote and think about who you are voting for. Some candidates want to dissolve worthless government agencies that have unelected bureaucrats making decisions, some candidates want to expand them even more. One party has systematically added tens of thousands of new laws and regulations, most of which we complain about and for good reason. Tired of it ? Go send them a message in November that they won't soon forget.
