DE, you hit the head on the nail. I think a lot of this is my inability to remain static. I always have to be doing something new, or changing things up in my life, but I really don't want the Z to be one of them. I'm sure some might be able to relate.

Switching to a 5.0 is extremely common on this forum, many people have gone over to Mustang. Hardly anything new. However i think its strange you want something more practical so you switch to a torquey RWD car? A V8 Mustang isn't exactly a family car. (Or is it?). If i was in your situation i would get a second car, i personally bought a 2002 WRX for the extreme winters we have been having lately for $5,000, runs like a champ.

OP. Get yourself a second car. If you get rid of the Nismo. You will only kick yourself in the a$$ later for getting rid of it. Do like I did. I now have my own fleet of vehicles. The Nismo, Jeep GC TrailHawk, Ram PowerWagon, 41ft diesel motorhome, and 3 motorcycles. Of course, all of this was bought over a period of time.

To answer y'all's question of why considering a mustang as a family car... I do still want a sports car, but one that my kids or a group of friends can enjoy with me as opposed to only one passenger. An sti was my first thought, so I test drove one and absolutely hated it, call me crazy, but yea.

My thoughts exactly. A boosted AWD car like an EVO or WRX are the only affordable cars I would consider instead of the Z. Plus, four doors and a trunk. Perfect family car.

No hate for the Mustang though, the Coyote engines are awesome!

Keep it. I regret selling my 1990 300zxtt. Wanted that car forever and then sold it when I got married. I kick myself all the time.

I have yet to see a new Mustang but those aren't bad looking in pictures. Have you considered maybe a used 335i 4 door? Plenty of fun to be had although not as fast.

Get a low mileage 996 Turbo. Allows your 5 year old to ride comfortably in the back while you blow everything away. Will still be relevant for several years too. You'll find some 02's, 03's under $45k. Rich dudes barely drive them, over maintain them, and keep them near mint (at least in SoCal). Top that with super car owner bragging rights. Its always about who gets to the next red light first!!

Also consider the nissan sentra. My wife has the 13 SL model and it's a very nice car. I'm still trying to get use to the cvt transmission tho. It's loaded with leather, nav, bose, moonroof, backup camera, and cost about 23k out the door. At least stay with nissan if you sell your nismo

Only if you can afford a Porsche mechanic or do your own work, a 996 Turbo is nice....but if one thing goes wrong..be it a turbo, intercooler, or some other things....its major cash to get fixed. Porsches are not cheap to keep running, if you go that route get a 996 911S...plenty of fun as well.

If you really want a cheap option, lease an Elantra for $150-180/month. You should be able to get one with nothing down. Or hell, I've seen Versa sedans advertised for $10-12k new.

...and a 5.0 with Boss 302 upper intake manifold and a tune gets you absolutely stupid amounts of power super cheap without going FI.

Want even more? Add forced induction to that 5.0 and flip GTR owners the bird as your car eats theirs for lunch for less than half the cost.
