Default burning oil

Anyone know if these cars burn oil?

My car started to act funny in low gears when cold. Started making crazy noises from the engine. I noticed when hitting the breaks, the oil light would come on for a sec. That right there told me the oil has to be low, so I checked it.

Sure enough, it was 3 freaking quarts low. I rely on my friend who is the mechanic to enter in the computer when to bring the car in for an oil change. It did seem like it was a long time, so I checked the computer and it had no entry. So I have no idea how long its been. But I dont think its been longer then 10k miles. I have never had a car eat up 3 quarts in my life!

Oil consumption has been brought up several times as being an issue some see it some don’t. I have also read that the light for oil doesn’t mean you’re low but your too late. All lights on, on the dash under hard breaking means your low in brake fluid I believe. Please do correct me if I’m wrong.

I know now!! Scary as can be. The noises I heard, I kind of thought it was the oil and I was scared. Now that I filled it back up, it runs like new.. I have an appointment this Saturday to get it all checked out and fluids replaced.

I bet I was close to a serious problem!

Check it as often as you get gas. Every high performance car I've ever had has burnt a little oil. Not much, but over 10k miles I'll bet it would have been bad. Keep your own maintenance records. Have Blackstone Labs do an oil analysis on the oil that comes out when you change it Saturday, and then every other oil change after that.

I would not wait 10K miles between oil changes.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet of maintenance for my car. It's pretty handy.

I had a similar scare. I am used to my truck not burning a drop of oil. Never have to check it and it never drops a bit on the dipstick. When I first got this car I decided one day that maybe I should check the oil and it was just barely on the dipstick. Nonetheless I check it every fillup if not every second fill up.

aside from when I took the 13 down to VA beach ive never once "checked" the oil. Until now. It was fine when I got it, fine when I drove it to VA beach, and is fine now with not so much as a drop difference. So maybe this is an issue with a faulty part, not all Z's. my 09 never lost a drop ether and I had that car for 30k miles.

In an automatic transmission vehicle the pedal on the left of the gas pedal is called the "brake" pedal. Applying this pedal will result in a decrease of speed. In a manual transmission vehicle the pedal between the gas pedal on the right and the clutch pedal on the left is also referred to as the "brake" pedal. It is somewhat confusing but the "brake" pedal is in the middle. Same concept applies to this pedal as when used in an automatic transmission.

Running oil for 10,000 miles results in $hit "breaking." Good luck with your braken motor.

Am I the only one here uses the mobile 1 premium oil instead of Ester or Redline synthetic oil?

I learned this since I owned my 06 G35 coupe. Both Infiniti and Nissan techs didn't recommend me to use synthetic oil on the VQ engine. Because our motor eats oil like crazy. I'd rather top it off more frequently then being regret too late. A couple of my friends used synthetic oil and didn't check it for more then 8k miles then they got the CEL due to the oil being low.

So if you do use synthetic oil, you need to check the oil level frequently like Chuck suggested.

you need to be bitch slapped!

I am a very busy person. I am an engineer during the day and run my JiuJitsu academy at night. I dont have time to remind myself when this, when that.. I use my phone to remind me of appointments, and the car cost me around 40K. The Car came with this nifty computer that is supposed to warn you when you need to change the oil... If you read anything you would know that my mechanic said he entered in the information that was supposed to warn me to change the oil. He evidently didnt. I have already said I have never had a car burn oil like this, ever!! I have run cars to 10k without an oil change.. that was when I was much younger.. but they never burned a drop.. So stop being an A$$ which is so easy to do on the other side of a computer. and by the way.. the car runs fine.. sounds fine.. he is going to check it more on saturday..

Quit being a whiny bitch. You screwed up - be a man, accept it, learn from it, move on.

Are you too busy to do proper maintenance on your gym equipment? Checking the oil periodically is just part of using ANY car; it might not be using oil today but that can change in a heartbeat.

If you ran it so low on oil that it started making noises, you've done some damage. You may be lucky and the damage is not too bad.
