Default so my 370 is burning oil :/

I was curious today what the oil level was since I am getting my 1st oil change in 2 days at the dealership (36xx miles). The oil reading was a little below the low dot (just barely nudged the end of the dip stick).

I checked it before, around 2000 miles and the reading was right between the dots. I am a spirited driver but don't think I pushed the car over its limits already.

The oil temp hit 240 once at the drag strip, it that matters.

So I guess I am not going to drive it much and keep it at low rpm until the oil change, and mentioning it to the advisor, since I dont even know what oil I can temporarely top it off with.

I really hope the oil burning issue would be just this "break in" cycle, and not every couple thousand miles.

Anyone else experience this?? inputs?

Cars may burn more oil during the first 5k miles or so. You can top it off with any 5W30 oil. Better to top it off than drive around with too little oil.

Usually things are seated in by 5-1500 miles I would think, unless Nissan is using some sort of unique ring/bore technology or something like BMW did on their bikes.

my bad...human error

i just rechecked my oil level again, and it was normal. i think i started up the engine briefly yesterday and check the oil level right after, thats what caused the low oil reading.

Glad to hear things are OK. Dipsticks can have quite of bit of error depending on when you check them (cool oil, warm oil, time after engine shutdown, etc).

True. I always check mine in the morning before I start it up.

i followed the instruction on the manual. it says runs the engine until it reaches operating temperature then turn off the engine and wait more than 15 minutes and then check the oil level (section 8-9)

Same here, because alot of oil will 'stuck' on top of the engine, even we stop over 1 hour.

It takes a great deal longer for all of the oil to get back in the pan.

This is true, however warm oil expands slightly so you cannot have a truly accurate reading while cold but it can be used as a good ballpark (just make sure it isn't on H when cold).

did the same with mine, waited about half hour after running the engine up to temp and reading was a little under the halfway mark on the stick, just added about 1/4 quart of mobil1 in and all is good
