Just gotta learn the layout and know which directions you can safely shoot, and weight the risks properly. #1 buck usually comes up best in self-defense-oriented ammo tests for shotguns.

Springfield is reputed to be "OK". Sig...they aren't really the company they used to be. Since manufacturing and design for the US market has been taken over by SigArms, QA has become problematic. The German Sigs are still top notch...US-made Sigs, not so much. I've had my P229 since 1996. It's seen an exceptional pistol and utterly reliable. I wouldn't buy a Sig these days, though. I see heaps of armorer frustration in the law enforcement market with the current versions of Sig's pistols.

m4a1mustang 06-30-2011 03:41 PM

I think Springfield's, especially the XD series, are fairly highly regarded. I'd say more than just "OK."

But as with any other gun out there, you really need to put hundreds of rounds downrange without a problem before you can really trust it to defend your life.

I shoot and train with a lot of cops, and do a lot of 3-gun competition. In those circles, people who shoot a lot, "OK" as a description for the XD series is pretty accurate in terms of how it's regarded. Modern Sigs OTOH are a little farther down the scale.

No problemo. I love the Pearce grip extension on one of my G26 mags. It's what I carry in the gun when I can get away with the added length of the grip... so fall/spring/winter.

Robert_K 06-30-2011 06:30 PM

I have the Pearce +0 on all my mags for my G36. Thought about getting the +2 for my G17 33rd mag. :D

I will say I love my Dan Wesson Valor!!! From the second I pulled that gun out of the box it has shot consistently better... My first session with the gun it shot a 5 round 1" grouping at 25yds and I thought I had missed the target for half the shots! I think I got a gun blessed by God himself as I have not had any FTFs or FTEs or Misfires since I have owned the gun! I love it to death the only gripe I have is that my grip screws keep vibrating loose hahaha.

Here is a pic:

Nice! There's nothing better than a good 1911, IMO!

Yes. Any firearms manufacturer can make a good weapon on any given day. Some are just more likely than others to do it consistently.

I kind of wish I hadn't already ordered the Tacstar side saddle. I found the Mesa rail w/ side saddle the other day, which is really what I want so that I can use a red dot. Not really a fan of the front bead sight, and with the Knoxx stock I'm not sure how easy it will be to acquire.

o yea, that thing is sick. Im a fan of having it on the stock itself tho. Idk how i will work it with the knoxx when I eventually get it. But ill figure something out. What reddot are u thinkin bout goin with?

m4a1mustang 06-30-2011 10:29 PM

Not sure yet on the sight. Definitely one of the inexpensive ones because it's a shotgun after all. And a short-barrel one at that.

I'm not really sure how I like the side saddle mount right yet. I know with the Knoxx you can get the cheek piece that comes with a 5 or 6 shell mount on the right side. If I end up doing a top rail + red dot I might just skip the extra shells on the receiver and put them on the stock.

Isamu 06-30-2011 11:54 PM

I still wanna know, anyone have any exp with the HK P30L?

m4a1mustang 07-01-2011 08:58 PM

*Sigh*

Amazon sent me the Knoxx stock for the Mossberg 12g instead of the Remington 870. Had to initiate an exchange. Bummer.

I'm kind of bummed I ordered it. I was at Dick's Sporting Goods today getting some ammo and I noticed that they sold a bunch of shotty accessories, including the Knoxx stocks. I could have just bought one there. :icon17:

Isamu 07-01-2011 09:38 PM

return for refund, buy at local store = profit?

m4a1mustang 07-01-2011 09:39 PM

Nah. The return policy is refunds only. The amazon order page was a little unclear and I guess I selected the wrong one, but the title of the product regardless of what you order says "For Mossberg 12ga / Remington 870" so I thought I was ordering the right one. :icon17:

It's ok... I just have to wait a little bit longer.

m4a1mustang 07-01-2011 09:43 PM

In other (good) news, Walmart had a huge selection of 9mm (rare). I only bought 5 boxes of Federal FMJ because my gf was with me and she would have been a little mad if I cleaned the shelves out...

Of course I will go back later. :icon17:

9mm ammo is rare? I've never owned a 9 so I'm outa the loop o that one. Is it cuz its popular? To be honest I usually only buy .45s. The smallest caliber I've ever owned is .40

m4a1mustang 07-01-2011 10:38 PM

Handgun ammo in general is a little tough for me to find at Wal-Mart. Most gun shops and sporting goods stores have it in stock, but a 50 round box of FMJ will cost $15 vs. $11 at Walmart... adds up when you are trying to keep a thousand or two rounds on hand.

They happened to have a lot of 9mm today. not much in the way of .40, but a good bit of .45.

I buy most of my ammo from Palmetto State Armory. 9mm PMC Bronze or American Eagle is $10.95 box or $219 per thousand rounds, no sales tax charged unless you live in Florida, and shipping is $12. UPS right to your door.

They've been utterly reliable for me and ship pretty quick.

And, I apologize, they're located in South Carolina, not Florida.

Rumor has it that the worldwide cost of copper and other metals (lead) will soon result in increasing ammo prices. I've been stocking up. Already seeing severe shortages of some types of quality complete rifles, components, and accessories, especially those that are more tactically oriented. Shortages are similar to the way it was right after Obama got elected.

Interesting site. Bookmarked for sure.

I note that, as expected, the best prices are Brown Bear and Wolf. Never had good luck with that steel-cased stuff. Pretty consistent failures-to-extract. The steel cases are coated, but that stuff gets gummy. Hard to clean and ultimately causes failures.

The Pakistani stuff is nasty. We had a ****-load of that POF stuff for disposal - returns from Sportmans Guide. It's mostly sub-gun ammo, so generally +P+, and it tends to have pretty hard primers since it is usually designed to be fired from an open bolt.

m4a1mustang 07-02-2011 11:09 AM

That's a helpful site. I need to find cheap 12ga slugs and buckshot since that's the only approved shotgun ammo at my local indoor range. Remington slugs and buckshot usually work out to close to $1 a round at Walmart.
