Bump-firing can be done on any AR-15 (really, on any semi-auto rifle period, although it's easier on some than others). Once you get the technique down you can pick up anyone's AR-15 and bump-fire at will. What they're selling is a modified stock/grip assembly that's supposed to make it a little easier and more reliable (and probably not beat up your shoulder quite as much).

The general idea with bump-firing a regular AR-15 is you want to leave a small gap between the stock and your shoulder, mostly support the weight with your left hand on the handguard (or forward vertical grip), keep your trigger finger at fixed location in space, and let the recoil of each shot bounce the rifle off of your shoulder and back into your trigger finger.

Some people find it easier to start out this way: Start with the butt against your shoulder and your finger on or just in front of the trigger, and then use your left hand (on the handguard / front grip) to pull the rifle forward into the trigger and away from your shoulder to fire the first round (at which point the same cycle happens as above).

Yeah but with this stock it makes bump firing so much more easier especially with a 100 round drum

100-round mag dumps. Looks like a great way to ruin a good barrel much faster. Each to their own....I think I'll stick with semi auto.

Ditto. I've played with bump-firing my AR-15 before, and had the opportunity to shoot various full autos for fun. My favorite was a 9mm MP5 that a DEA guy brought out to a shoot in north texas a few years back. In recoil terms it felt like a full auto BB-gun, and it was just a blast to play with.

But when it comes down to it, full auto isn't all that useful in any scenario I'm ever likely to encounter. Generally it's only tactically practical for laying down suppressive fire, and I just don't see myself ever needing to cover someone with suppressive full auto fire in any defensive situation I'm likely to run into, even if the zombies do come.

If they were cheap, I'd buy full autos for range toys (and still not use them for defensive rifles). But at post-1986 prices, forget it, I'll stick with semis at the range too.

:tiphat: LWRC makes awesome rifles, good choice there :)

matrix_square 06-03-2011 04:01 PM

i will be trading my LWRC or Going Consignment to the dealer i bought it from. They are ordering the new 223/556 8" SBR/Supressor. This was my original choice but didnt want to wait 3-6 months. Well now my wife is right, and she told to wait for what i really wanted. Honestly i should have kept my cash from the kimbers and LWRC and add $1500 i would have bought the FULL-Auto SBR 10" Colt from the gunshop i bought all these guns from. Its just so hard to find those full auto reasonably price.

If you want to get into full-auto ARs, IMHO buy a DIAS and drop it into whatever host you want. DIAS can be repaired after most accidents anyways, by a competent metal worker. They're cheaper than Registered Receivers too.

SO ive been looking at the Colt LE6940 for a bit now... thinking seriously bout getting it. Any thoughts, suggestions?

It's a solid gun for sure, one of the top few vendors of reliable AR-15s, and a good purchase.

This is the main caveat with Colt: I'm not up on the latest, but there have been issues about compatibility between semi-auto Colts and parts from other mfgs. Basically, normal full-auto M-4s and M16-s, and just about every aftermarket AR-15, all use the same interchangeable parts and specs. Colt changed some pin sizes on their semi-autos for the non-military market in an effort to make them incompatible with full-auto parts.

At one point in the past, what they did was make the front takedown pin (the front of the two large pins you pull to separate upper + lower receivers) larger (to prevent mix&match between full/semi Colt uppers and lowers). Then they also at some later point made the fire control group pin larger as well, so that you can't drop a select-fire trigger group and/or DIAS into them easily. I *think* with current new production, they now use normal-sized takedown pins, but still oversized FCG pins.

Aside from making full auto parts a pain (e.g. if you bought a Registered DIAS or Lightning Link or similar kit that worked for select-fire), these changes also can cause problems if you try to mix colt + non-colt semi-auto parts (upper<->lower received mating in the case of the takedown pin, lower receiver internals in the case of the FCG pin).

If you plan to leave it all-Colt and all-semi, it should be a non-issue.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I did eventually want to convert it to full auto... Well, any suggestions on a model just as good and roughly the same price (I wont complain if its cheaper)

Man, that's a huge question, and full of lots of things people differ in opinion on. Your absolute best source on the net for this kind of info is the forums on AR15.Com. There are many quality manufacturers of whole AR-15s or parts to custom-build your own. I'll toss out one mfg I think is really top notch but not as widely touted as some of the better-known brands:

Nothing surprises me when it comes to Cali's nanny-state government. I'm still 50/50 on whether they fall off into the ocean due to earthquake or collapse under the weight of their failed society first. I just wish they'd go down with the ship instead of slinking over to the good states and trying to infect our politics with the same disease :P

Isamu 06-13-2011 11:37 PM

Arizona recently passed a bill where you can conceal carry in the state no permit required...

Just a Remington 870 Express Tactical. If they have the folding grip + pistol grip stocks I'll get one of those too and have them put it on at the store.

Edit: I meant telescoping stock with pistol grip. Need another cup of coffee.

I might actually buy two. One for my house and another for the gf's apartment.

Just don't get sucked into the hype about loading birdshot for self defense because it penetrates walls less. The bottom line on that crap is anything that doesn't penetrate interior walls also won't slow down a determined aggressor. Just gotta learn the layout and know which directions you can safely shoot, and weight the risks properly. #1 buck usually comes up best in self-defense-oriented ammo tests for shotguns.

m4a1mustang 06-24-2011 10:00 AM

Yeah I am not planning on using birdshot for a defensive load. :icon17:

for all the non-gun folks... ill translate..

don't use bird shot, because it's just going to piss the person trying to kill you off. and he will be more brutal when he cuts out your kidneys to sell on the black market

MacCool 06-24-2011 03:36 PM

.223/5.56 NATO out of a "Black Rifle" will generally penetrate typical home interior walls less than most handgun and shotgun ammo. Many people tout the 5.56 NATO round as a better home defensive round for that reason.

Just picked up my 870 yesterday, along with a variety of shells to go with it. Need to get out and shoot it sometime in the near future. I'm ordering some accessories for it... collapsible & folding stock, fore-end with rails, surefire mount, shotshell holder, etc. :)

Except we were shooting 700 grain loads. (there are 7000 grains in a pound... so 10 of these bullets (bullet, not the shell, powder, primer) is a pound!) The 700 grain looks like a shotgun slug. Huuuge.
