So I did some research (talked to Mike) and high flow cats will fail and be catastrophic resonated test pipes if they fail the resonated part will just burn off over time. So in good!

stock cats = ceramic = better under high heat

high flow cats = metal foil = burned up

That what Mike said if my TP's fail the car el get much louder like I'm running straight TP's. But it's nothing that one needs to worry about or replace!

Meth injection foar UR KATZ!!!!!

MavRick 06-01-2013 03:22 PM

sooooo....can one use TP's for everyday use and then switch back to cats for emissions? does ATL even have a sniffer? i just moved back here so these questions keep me up at night.

Baer383 06-01-2013 05:38 PM

Atlanta does have a sniffer but for what years I don't remember, your car has to be a certain amount of years old.

If they go off of Cali standards (which most states do that require a sniffer) it's after the 4th year from the date of first registration. So 5 years total when SMOG is due.

I stop being lazy and looked it up, you don't emissions on your car for the first 3 years in Atlanta.

Alstann 06-01-2013 09:04 PM

God bless Florida...at least we do cars right with no emissions or stupid car related laws. ^^

Yeah but you have to deal with all the retired old bags driving around your pretty car.

khanhvu411 06-02-2013 12:18 PM

Look like I will have to sell my HFC, get a TP and hoping it wont be too loud with the turbos. I wound not want to wake my neighbors when I go to work at 5am every morning :-)

Dzel 06-02-2013 01:05 PM

With turbo applications the car is actually quieter

COSMO 06-02-2013 01:12 PM

He's right it will if fact be ALOT quieter. Im running the gtm 3' test pipes with the stillen exhaust and it completely took the noise away other just a deep sounding tone..

Thats good to kniw. Now I am just waiting for the installation manual to see if I can do it in my garage with jack stands.

Cell 06-02-2013 10:24 PM

Will there be a installation manual for installing this kit with the engine still in the bay?

plumber dude 06-02-2013 11:05 PM

Hey Mike or Sam, how long until the test results on Nxlimited's car? His car has the 16G with EWG ? I like the results from the GTM TT TDO5 with the IWG but think the EWG will be better, and will be a better fit for me later if I want to urgrade to Garrett Turbos.

I think it will be done with a engine out. This way it clearly shows what you have to do. Course it going to be a little harder and more compact in the engine bay. The hardest part IMO with the engine still in the car is going to be mounting the turbo.

Footloose301 06-03-2013 06:50 AM

Anybody know if we can unbolt the header from the top/bottom and pull it out thru the top? If it must come thru the bottom then we'll probably have to disassemble some of the front suspension I'm guessing.

It will have to come out threw the bottom. On the drivers side you wil have to unbolt the steering knuckle.

Yeah, it's one bolt then you can slide the steering shaft up towards the firewall, it'll collapse in on itself and stay out of the way until you're ready to re-attach it.

Oh, and be sure not to turn your steering wheel while it is detached. You'll mess up your steering position sensor's reference range and have to detach the shaft again and re-set it to centered.

(Gutted folks like Spohn and I don't need to worry about this as we've already ditched that sensor)

I was curious about this too. I ran HFCs on my old STi and never heard anyone having a failure or even being concerned about it. Either way, I'm going with test pipes but I'd still like to know why it's an issue on this platform.

The cats on the STI are a lot further down stream from the turbo than on the Z. Heat is the issue, and the additional distance makes a huge difference.

The reason the aftermarket STi cats don't fail is quite simple. They are designed for the application. Mounting the cats farther away is actually a bad thing and shortens the life of the cat since it needs heat to do its job. The better Subaru Downpipes use correct cats and mount them in the factory location right after the turbo outlet. The HFC's currently on the market for this car are NOT designed to handle Forced Induction.

We will be offering high flow cats as part of our new modular downpipe design. These cats are designed specifically for high horsepower, forced induction applications. In fact, we are so confident in their performance that we will be offering a warranty against failure.

The HFC's we will be offering are for our 3" downpipes with external wastegates as an option. You can also swap to 3" test pipes for track days if you like since they are bolted pieces. This new option is a great way for people to go that want 500whp and still have clean exhaust. Also, these cats will keep emissions down just as well as the stock cats, but have more flow and stand up to higher exhaust temps with richer air/fuel mixtures.

Chuck33079 06-03-2013 04:50 PM

A page or two back the RTPs were discussed. They're not recommended.

Footloose301 06-03-2013 04:50 PM

It's suggested that you get regular test pipes, NOT resonated.

megalapagas 06-03-2013 05:05 PM

aww dammit guess i have to call F.I, Thx Guys.

Seeing as it was mentioned a little while back that the kits would be shipped out on a first come, first served basis, I think that a list showing who has paid and in what order would be useful.

Actually, it wouldn't be that useful at all, I just want to know whether I am near the top and will have a chance to be one of the first to start installing :P

You are in the top 10 of the list.

Now that's what I like to hear!!!

Just remember to take the different timezone into account when it ships. Australia is like 5 days ahead of the US so you will need to ship VERY early! :P

Since when does this kit fit on the RHD 370z?

Bick 06-04-2013 12:16 PM

Is the group pricing still going on?

I think so....they haven't announced anything concerning a date. Jump on it now, call them now and get your name on the list.

I'm paid in full so knock yourself out :happydance:
