theres gonna be soooo many more engine builds in the near future...

most people who blow their engines don't talk about it.

Dzel 05-11-2013 12:04 PM

Lmao I wouldn't neither

I happened to be on the west coast for work and managed to get a day off so I decided to pay GTM a visit. Sam was nice enough to spend some time with me talking about the kit and even let me take the demo car for spin!

The first words out of my mouth after the test drive were "I want it". Other than me needing a little practice getting off the line with the OS Giken clutch, the car was extremely drivable and felt stock when staying out of boost. Lay into the throttle and the car responds immediately and pulls hard. I noticed the traction control light blinking pretty much every time I stomped on the gas, even in 3rd gear. So getting used to laying down the power will take some time but even with the traction control fighting you, it's a blast to drive. In my own car, I'll be curious to see what it's like with VDC shut off :) I'm sure it'll be a handful.

The demo car had the 18gs and was making around 450 whp which is my goal. I was curious if the 18gs would feel a little laggy but I was happily surprised by how quickly they spooled. I'll definitely be going with those over the 16gs even though I don't have huge HP goals. I figure it gives me peace of mind in case I ever get the itch to go for more power or open up the exhaust without worrying about boost creep.

Sam was happy to answer all my questions and show me around the shop. I know these guys stay extremely busy so I really appreciate him taking time out of his day for me. I'm completely sold on this kit and GTM. The wait for the release is going to be even more painful now!

Dzel 05-11-2013 03:42 PM

Sooooo no info on the release yet huh?

Sam said they were shooting for July. I'm hoping for June but understand it's a big undertaking.

It will be August then. I bet the new oil pans are the hold up.

Hey Firehawk - how's it going?

How's your twin supercharger install coming along?

I'm still waiting for my kit to ship - it's been about 5 months now.

Sorry guys but I'm praying August/September now haha. I had to spend some of my turbo money so I need to get it filled back up.

Test driving the demo car was a huge mistake. I'm completely obsessed now. I'll die if it takes until August.

Um me too lol. Need mine back with the new manifolds on. (Not to mention the stage 4 7AT transmission and stage 1 long block engine build)

khanhvu411 05-17-2013 09:33 AM

I am so anxious...hoping GTM will ship them out on July 4th :bowrofl:

SPOHN 05-17-2013 10:56 AM

Just knowing the kit is going to flawess when it comes is good enough for me.

Yes, but harder when your car is at GTM and you've been without it for many months!

Nick,

We appreciate you being patient with us and being that your car is a 2013 model, has really helped us and the entire community. Otherwise, our oil pan would have never fit on any of the 2013 models since they are different. In fact, the Greddy oil pan will not fit a 2013 either. This is also part of the extra time we are taking. Once we received your car, we had to retool and start the oil pan process from scratch after it was done 5 months ago. Your patience with us won't be forgotten.

Sam

Is it safe to say this is the "only" hold up on the new kit? :)

It will be safe to say that by the end of this month.

No problem, Sam! I prefer a job done right to quickly, always.

I am so hungry to tear apart my car on some stands and get ready for this kit!!!

COSMO 05-18-2013 10:40 PM

Sam's going to have to hire some additional help at gtm to handle all of the calls for customer service with this new kit being sold to even more people. Poor mike, if you guys think he's not stressed now... lol

SPOHN 05-19-2013 03:25 PM

Now I'm not sure if I'd rather go with the 20G instead.

18G's all the way.

I'm sticking with 18G.

Tearing down my car this weekend. Still not sure if I want to pull the motor. It's not hard but.... We'll see.

COSMO 05-21-2013 11:54 AM

Hey man if you have the means to pull it I would recommend it but then again for your turbo install you don't have to do a lot of things the original kit had... You guys are really lucky because that install should be a piece of cake....

I have the 16G and it spools nicely and dyno'ed at 550 with no exhaust.
Don't know how much more you'll get with 18G.
