the cost and reliability can get out of control. So, I found that point to be right at 800 whp. I set my goal at that level or a little less. Trying to get more whp than that is when it starts to get real expensive and you can have reliability issues. Some folks have push the whp level up past that but not many. I call it the uncharted territory. I will be pushing my build to around 18-20psi of boost. If you go any higher, that is when you will need an intake manifold. The next question is what will it take to keep the head gaskets sealed up and at what point this needs to be addressed. It is right at the 800whp level is what you hear. You also hear all the fear tactics of needing a closed deck block, etc. The problem I have is the folks that are fear mongering it can't be trusted. Just look at their previous adventures. They are the only ones making the closed deck blocks also. If I had another choice or more data on it, I would consider it. So, if you keep it under 800hp you will be a little less than what you think. If you want to chase the 1000hp number, it will cost you. The bad part is you may have to do it several times until you figure out how to keep the engine together. You will be your own R and D department. |
Yup that’s the truth I was almost done so many time and than I would see other blow there engines so I would ok where did they mess up what were they lacking and I would add on to the build like they said pay as you go when you going after uncharted territory like you said it’s a mixing pot of a lot of things money time patience a good shop a good tuner new parts nobody has used before and crossing your fingers

[QUOTE=tonyHTX;3777347]Nice words! I need to update my build sometime but these things you speak of I have been trying to. I decided that closed deck, despite the "fear mongering" as you put it, imo the best choice for where I'm rebuilding towards. I will definitely find out if the choice works or not and I will not be one who doesn't speak of my experiences. I have always told people about how my car journey has been going (I guess you can call it "R&D" now); for those who have been interested at least.

Two companies are working on solution to keep the heads bolted down when making over 800whp and keeping the deck open. |

Power wise I'm not sure yet, I started tuning the car myself so my goal main goal right now is to tune it the best I can get it on hptuners/93 pump gas. After that I'll reevaluate my long term goal - I'm mainly trying to decide if I should go full stand alone or not. Quote:

I just ordered a 2nd ATI damper so my rotating assembly can be balanced correctly. I wasn't going to pull my current one off my motor so I just got a new one. LOL
