Next fiasco was taking the car back to them to install a pressure sensor to check for coolant pressure on the dyno. I bought a coolant pressure gauge and took the car to them. I ended up leaving the car so they could get it to work properly. The coolant pressure gauge wasn't the best of quality. They installed a sensor and hooked it up to the factory ECU with Ecutek. They got the readings and I came and picked the car up. Once I got home, I started having all kinds of drivability issues. The car started throwing O2 codes for bank 1 sensor 1. I installed new O2 sensors, new spark plugs, and it never corrected the issue. I unplugged the coolant pressure sensor and the car ran OK. The factory ECU was not having it. I had only driven the car a couple of times. I basically parked it and only putted to town a few times every now and then. The car was still acting stupid. I didn't drive it much at all during this time and didn't get on it because I knew it was hurt.

Well, that is my story. Like it or not I am the one responsible for the car. I won't be using SOHO ever again. Needless to say that new SOHO intercooler did nothing. The IAT's were about the same. They actually got to 168 degs at Pocono. The AFR's were 13.8. Lean big time. That intercooler does not work. It is way too small. I did miss 5th gear at Pocono. Revved the dang thing to 91xx rpms. Marks valvetrain mods held like a champ. I have dual valve springs on intake and exhaust since I have 1mm larger valves. I don't recommend doing that. I had never ever done that before.

Spooler 03-15-2023 03:08 PM

So, what got my headgasket? Hard to say, I have no data. From pulling the engine apart, it is not conclusive. What did happen is this. At 28psi of boost it made 996whp. At 29psi of boost it made 1004whp. The turbine side was done on my turbos. For it to stop making power like that I hit a drive pressure (E MAP) limit. The other thing was high IAT's. You don't need to go over 150 deg. That is the danger zone. Mine was well above that. I would have made more power at lower boost levels with the correct intercooler setup. The tuner didn't know where to stop trying to make power. Nick at SOHO is just as guilty as what he claimed about someone else during the latest fiasco.

Glad you are sharing your recounts. I hate spending the proper $ and time, but still not getting the proper product. Hopefully this time is the charm. Good luck sir.

I have been holding this in for quite some time. I just want to be done with it and move forward. I would have switched over to a VR38 but I am too far down this rabbit hole. I might as well figure it out or get humbled again.

3rd mod that has never been done before is in the works. 2nd was done the other day. You will just have to wait and see what these are later. That's if MA posts them.

Spooler 03-22-2023 09:35 AM

Mod #3 is done. Moving on.

Can I suggest that you look to a PWR intercooler. If you have a design, they can make you one.

I sponsored a PWR radiator for a race 370Z as well (intended to cool 600hp but not 1000 so might be a bit under-spec'd). Happy if you email me (I think you have my email address - if not, PM me) and I'll provide details.

PWR work with F1 on cooling systems (intercoolers, battery and ICE cooling as well)

We are kicking around ideas now. I will let you know.

Made the decision to custom build a large one. It will be less stressful this way so I know it fits. May have to break out the Sawzall. LOL

Spooler 04-06-2023 03:36 PM

New Intercooler is done. Moving on along.

Spooler 04-06-2023 04:42 PM

It's a big un. 28x12x4.5 Bell core.

Intercooler pipes are done and they were a challenge to get to fit properly.

Should give you room
To set the oil
Cooler off to the side

I can't, intakes are there. 10lbs of chit in a 5lb bag.

My stock driveshaft is done. Time for a DSS drive shaft. It's also time to service my DSS 1200whp axles. Ugg, Maintenance is slowing up the works.

Re-greasing the CVs? What part of the axle is ‘serviceable’ or has failed?

He has DDS aftermarket axles.

They have some play in the CV joints. Got to take them apart and inspect them. 900whp is hard on stuff over time.

Spooler 04-18-2023 07:12 PM

I can get replacement parts from DSS.

Spooler 04-19-2023 10:45 PM

Old video, this is the VQ record? Who knows but it is the fastest one I have seen.

The balls and cages had worn. Such is life. I bought them used for half price. I can't complain.

That's ridiculously fast! I don't know of anyone else coming close to that in the VQ land. Hell, most people don't get that with a big block v8

Spooler 04-20-2023 11:11 PM

No much left to do on my car. Just weld in some sensor bungs on the cold pipes and wire all the extra sensors up. I didn't skimp. These will all be logged. No more guessing.
Data, I will have it.

gbrettin 04-21-2023 07:19 AM

Wish I put something in to monitor exhaust back pressure. Did you do that?

LOL, yup. Two of them. I will have more data than anybody has had before on the VQ37vhr. Not sharing that though. It has costed a mint to do it. $2700 in just sensors.

Spooler 04-21-2023 02:34 PM

There is not much left of the Fast Intentions twin turbo kit. All I have left is the exhaust manifolds.

Spooler 04-21-2023 02:37 PM

It's too bad that we don't have a proper turbo kit made for us. The GTR's have tons of options. 370z get's no love. Custom work is not cheap.

I think Charles is the only one that made big power manifolds.

Yup, he made all the good stuff. Larger intercooler, intake manifold, and exhaust manifolds. He was heading in the right direction until Justin gave up.

Spooler 04-27-2023 02:09 PM

Not much longer and we will be firing it up. It's close. Have a couple of extra things on order.

Spooler 05-04-2023 09:27 PM

We should be firing her up next week.

Spooler 05-19-2023 10:21 AM

It's coming along. The DSS driveshaft has arrived. My stock one's U-joints finally cried Uncle. They were done. Getting closer.

Spooler 05-19-2023 03:59 PM

We have built another monster. The car is sick.

You sure just the car is sick? :rofl2: Can’t wait to see it in action!

Sorry guys, All the crap that has been going on with SOHO and Z1 stealing peoples products and ideas, I won't be posting much. It's just the way it is.

Can't blame you there... pretty sad and it's so blatant at this point

Topgun and Phunk have been taking a beating over the years. It is just ridiculous. Other folks are too lazy to innovate. They just want the easy money. That's why we suffer in the VQ community. I can't remember the last time Z1 actually came up with something original. They will post others innovations up for sale on their site and then come out with a copy with Z1 stamped on it.
