In case you haven't figured it it out. I am not done yet. You will just have to wait and see.
Yes, my VQ is back together and headed back. I nicked a headgasket on cylinder #4. We have some ideas of what happened but with Ecutek, the data is lacking big time. The heads did not yield and just needed a .002 clean up cut. My L19 head studs were still torqued to what they were set to before. They didn't move at all. Yes, Mazworx is my builder and will always be. Mark is a good dude. I paid for it to be repaired because it wasn't his fault.
The only odd issue I had was with my Suckerpunch oil pump. For the 2nd time on 2 different oil pumps it showed some weird wear. I installed a Nissan Nismo oil pump this time. I don't trust any aftermarket oil pump company after this. Nissan only from now on.

Welp, that is all I am posting for now. Back to keeping to myself to do what I do.
Why should I even post anymore here. You see what happens when I do. Such a waste of energy.

So, what happened to my engine. It was either one of 3 things or a combination of the 3. High IAT's, Drive pressure, or I had detonation in cylinder #4. We have nothing to monitor some of that with Ecutek. If you are not monitoring it you are guessing. Guessing is what get's you in trouble and you end up with a hurt engine. If you keep trying to make the engine respond, you have a hurt engine. As we all have seen recently. It either makes it with ease or you end up with scrap metal.

I will give you an example. When Vince at RT tuning tuned my car for 900whp, it just made it with ease. He tuned my friends car with a BP kit and it struggled at 700whp. It was done. He stopped and had a new midmount turbo kit made and changed turbo. It made it to 996whp or so and then had an issue with his top fuel hop motor where it pucked coolant. He found out why and is fixing that. Then you have another guy who just can't accept his car is not making power and keeps trying to force it. In the end, the motor is destroyed. I will leave this last post. I am done for a while. Have fun and good luck everybody.
With all due respect, I have not learned anything from this thread and I doubt that others have either. Simply spending $100k in the platform and dropping off your car to random shops does not constitute a development department.
If you make an effort, Ecutek can monitor all of the factors mentioned, including IAT, drive pressure, and detonation. However, careful modeling is required for knock sensors to detect detonation in built motors. Regarding the VR38, you have to pay to play.. The VQ engine has been repeatedly shown to be unreliable for generating four-digit horsepower levels, trying again and again and expecting a different result is something.. |
Are you the guy who sells GTR exhaust manifold adaptor kits to fit the 370z so folks can install GTR turbos? Yes, We have one factory IAT sensor in the passenger side MAF. Yes, we have two knock sensors stock on the 370z. It can't monitor drive pressure. I will leave it at that.
Well, when you pay somebody to help you with your car and you are asking for things that have never been done before you are paying for development work. Do you think Gidi has to pay for development work? Yes, I am sure the shops he uses charges him. It's not for free. As far as the comments on the VR38. It's just not worth the money to do it. I will turn my car down a bit if needed. +900whp is not really usable on the street. This is exactly why I don't like to share anymore. |
By the way, who do you think paid for the development work on SOHO's top fuel hoop motor. Ben and Nathan did. They didn't pay for all of it, but they paid for it. They both said I want to do this and opened their wallets.
For me I am more involved. I have successes and I have failures. It's all part of the journey. I am just not posting about my journey anymore because of the A-holes. |

I get secrecy if you’re racing competitively and/or for $$ but I’ll never understand the “secrecy” regarding a personal type build. That’s not just directed at you but at anyone/all the folks and shops that pull that type of sh1t. We’re supposed to be a community of enthusiasts, we should support each other. |

Oh and good luck with your secret/not secret build. Hopefully 4th times the charm…:tiphat: |

Just to clarify for the peanut gallery, spooler and I are good. Friends/family argue, no big deal.

It's not cheap modding a car.
Car is going back together. If you want to see updates, check out MA-Motorsports on Instagram. They are not messing around. You will see them when I see them. @mamotorsports

LOL, don't be giving me those negative waves.
Relax, just sitting back and watching the show. Smoke 'em if you got em. Boy there is a show going on. Not with me though.

Somebody is singing this song.

It's a Disco Inferno. Hot out there.

There is a train of Ugly running. Maybe this will put you in a good mood.

Engine is back in the car. Moving on along.
I know some folks have asked me to post some stuff that has happened. I just want to keep moving forward. Enjoy the journey forward. The car is going to be off the chart this time.
You are going to see some stuff that has never been done before. If I can think it up, MA-Motorsports can make it happen. Not having any Janky chit on my car this time.
As far as not needing a standalone and Ecuteck can do it all. That is a heck NO! If the tuner can't see all the data needed and blows your chit up. Then, nothing is said and the car is given back to you broke. Yeah, you need a standalone to add all the additional sensors needed to properly tune the car. If you aren't logging it, you are guessing and asking for trouble. My bad for trusting that tuner. That's not happening again.
I am done playing games. Mark at Mazworx and Jay Meager both said I needed to change a few things back in 2020. They both also gave me some other suggestions. Those are getting implemented also. Moving on along.
Enjoy some old school music!!! I wouldn't let Nick tune my covered Wagon or my Radio Flyer. Just say NO!!! to SOHO.
I really don't want to get down and waller in the mud with the Pigs, so I will leave it at that.
Well, I guess I am wallering in the mud now.
When the SOHO intake was installed on my car, I got a call from Nick after he had it on the dyno. He said, "I think it can get it to hit 1000whp". I asked what the IAT's were. He told me 158 deg. What boost level, 29psi. I asked him to pull the car off the dyno and build me a proper intercooler. I told him what size I wanted. He said I didn't need it and but he would build me one like they build. I said OK. He then said it did something strange on the dyno and dumped at 7xxx rpms. I have the dyno graph for this. This is when the headgaslet was torched on cylinder 4. Mark had to take the MLS layers apart to see it. It was a small plasma cut on the inner layer. When I came and picked up the car I didn't drive it. My mistake of thinking it was right. When I brought it home and drove the car it had a bad stumble at 2800-3000rpms at partial throttle. I also noticed it was spitting coolant out the coolant reservoir. That was on the 17psi of boost setting, not even turned up. I thought I had overfilled it. I then went to Pocono, It keep spitting coolant out. Just a little bit at a time. Then the car overheated, I knew I had an air pocket and it was done. Headgasket problem. I parked the car, let it cool off, and bleed the cooling system out. Loaded it up on the trailer. I was pissed. I trailered the car straight home from Pocono. 14hr drive. |
